Is there any way to view the any user activity/ commands history and date, time in the system? I look at the /var/log/secure but I can find only the login/ logout attempts and "history" command doesn't come with date/time that the user issue the commands. Any there any best practice to audit the user activities inside the system?

She was complaining about some Windoze problem that neither my wife nor I could remotely fix (with us living a continent away) and she noted she would not boot to winXP if it were not for the fact she can play back (from her Hot Mail account) power point presentations MUCH easier under winXP than she can under Linux. Hence she often boots to winXP because she can handle those files easier under winXP.

Can anybody show me how to view command history of another user? I am an admin on my machine. I can see normal history by viewing /home/user_name/.bash_history but i can't see commands of that "user_name" when they were doing sudo. Is there a way to view all command executed by one user?

I've checked gdmsetup and there isn't anything that I can see that keeps my general users from getting in remotely. I can get the Gnome to login as root but not as a user. SSH from PuTTY works fine for all users. The error I get actually says that the username or password is incorrect - checked using SSH and it is fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA client has sent me an RHEL 5.1 box for me to do some work on, but it's not registered with Red Hat. This is causing me problems, because it's a minimal installation, and I need some more dev software.My immediate reaction was to install various bits (emacs, and so on) from my Centos 5(.0) DVD.The base RHEL system only had one (disabled) repo entry,so I added a yum DVD repo entry in yum.conf.d.
This looked good to start with, but it doesn't work. Something in RHEL's pirut/yum/rpm/whatever is getting confused, and can't work out what is/isn't installed.
Question - how do you maintain an unregistered RHEL box? Has RH done something to make life difficult? Is my problem simply that I'm using a Centos 5.0 DVD, instead of Centos 5.1? Am I stuck with downloading lots of rpms from the net and doing everything manually? I really don't want to do that.
I am trying to download RHEL 5.4 AS version for testing..But under [URL] There is no specific link for AS version or ES version..How can I detect which iso is for AS and which one for ES..? There are separate links for AS and ES version for RHEL 4.x version but why is it not available for RHEL 5.x versions?
