General :: Not Receiving Mails From Only Root User In RHEL 4.5
Nov 18, 2010
I am using Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 5)and i am using send mail also..The issue is:
i am able to send emails from all OS users but unable to send mail from root user.(I am receiving mails if i send mails from all users except root user)what could be the issue?
am using qmail and have webmin, all is running smoothly, but i have users spamming other staff accounts. The question: How do I block a user from sending out mails but still able to receive mails. Just denying access to sending mails?if anyone can guide me to do it via terminal as well as webmin. Why webmin you ask, because I have tried it once it works but sadly it block both incoming and outgoing mails.
I want to know that by default do we need to configure SMTP and POP3/IMAP sever for sending and receiving mails in Linux server and client machines or we can directly send and receive mails without configuring these mail servers?
I have recently configured the kmail to receive mails from gmail through the pop. I have followed the gmail's tutorial,[URl]I was able to send messages, but not to receive them.To say the true, I received just one mail and never more.
I have configured postfix to send/receive mail from/to for two domains we manage. [URL] and [URL] Most of the cases there is no issue sending out or receiving emails. However, a few users of domainY.com complained that their senders were not able to sent them email. after much investigation, we started thinking that the mailserver failed to send us email may the failing on doing a SMTP Banner issue.
Is there anyone who knows how to deal with this SMTP banner issue with multiple domain. We want different SMTP banner when doing EHLO on different server.
I have configured dns, postfix, dovecot, https, squirrel mail on fedora11 everything working very well. While configuring out look the same domain users getting mails the virtual users not receiving mails it showing pop3 error. But he can able to receive mails in his home directory.
I've checked gdmsetup and there isn't anything that I can see that keeps my general users from getting in remotely. I can get the Gnome to login as root but not as a user. SSH from PuTTY works fine for all users. The error I get actually says that the username or password is incorrect - checked using SSH and it is fine.
I am trying to see the last 5 mails in a single window that the rootuser has sent to a particular normal user. However,I am not able to do so.Is there any command that can display the last 5 mails in a single window sent to a particular user?
I've started to get emails that would typically come from [URL] as [URL]. These emails come from services that send out emails (backup programs) directly, or from cronjobs. I've logged in as the non-root account and either sudo su - or su - to root and the restart the service at one point or another. If I login directly as root and bounce the service or cron the emails come across as from root. I don't see anything in my environment variables after I su to indicate what would cause this. I'm not sure where else to look? A pam setting? This seems to have happened between Fedora 10 and 14 (did a bunch of overdue upgrades recently) I've only got Fedora so I don't have anything to compare to. In Fedora 10 I did not have this problem.
i used opensuse 11.1 ...there is option for root user to create password for root...but for ubuntu i did not find anything like that...so how can i create root password....or how can i use root
i just installed linux mandriva 2009. i set password for root and created a user account. when i try to login as root, after logging out as user, it does not allow me and gives the error "root logins are not allowed". even it does not show the root account. if i try to go to root from konsole terminal using su root, it allows to enter as a root but when i try to start the GUI with startx it gives error.not sure what to do and why i can't see my account in GUI mode

I have a small internal network with about 8 or so servers or workstations. My mail server is getting spammed from all over to the root and other administrative accounts. I also get valid email sent to the root and administrative accounts from within my local network. Is there a way to block all email coming from outside my local network while still receiving it inside the local network to these specific accounts?

This causes Tomcat to be run as myuser, which is expected. However after issuing the reboot command the system starts up and root is now the owner of this process. How can I force the process to be started off as myuser on reboot?
I need to instruct sendmail to accept mails that are destined to users that are not available on my server and then forward those emails to catchall@mydomain.tld.Please remember that i don't want to forward every single mail to catchall user. I just want to forward those emails which would be destined for users that do not exist on my server.i have used define(`LUSER_RELAY', `local:catchall@d.com')but it doesn't seems to work.
As a beginner I installed Fedora 11 yesterday. Everything went well until I installed Evolution and Thunderbird. Incoming mails went well, but outgoing mails not.
I installed arch on to my dell (8250) p4 and everything went great until my log in window came up I tried logging and it would not except my user name or password. I was able to get in on root and made sure the user name password was valid and it was! No matter what name / password I add with full access it will only see root
Basically I have a USB flash drive currently formatted under vfat. I can log in as root and the system automatically picks it up and automounts the drive successfully. What needs to happen is that a non-root user needs to be able write to this device while root has mounted this device. Due to other program constraints, I can not mount the device using another user so I have to do it with root.
So, i've a little question. I have a Linux Red Hat 5.1 System wich has a programm that needs to be started as a user -> usera .When i reboot the server, how can i make it possible to run a command in the shell as usera user?Someone told me, that this is not possible to make an autostart entry because this works only with the root account?!What i want its simple.- Command -> startprg need's to be started as user usera automatically after an automated reboot of the red hat linux
Im trying to run this program and they say I should not run it as root but as a diff user. how to change from root to dif.user. I am using linux CentOS 5.5. Is it a terminal command? How do i create a diff user and log in as it?
