I am doing a Data Mining Project and I am using an Amazon Oracle AMI. The AMI uses Redhat5. I try to get git on the server; however, I cannot get it to compile nor install using the source nor the rpm. Is there a easy way that I just get the package to install and run. My project is to the data mining but I would like some sort of source control.

Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ?
To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.
To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.
I installed Zim via Synaptic. Initially everything was fine. However, for some reason, it no longer works.
I've tried reinstalling it via Synaptic, but it still doesn't work.
The next thing I'd try is to compile it from source on my system. Trouble is, I don't know how to go about it!

View 9 Replies View RelatedTrying to get Fedora 12 installed normally on a laptop, but it's hanging at the aforementioned point during installation. The mouse cursor is movable and the system appears to be fully working. The progress bar isn't moving and there is nowhere to either shut down the PC or access the terminal?? I cannot check any progress or see any log of what the installation program is trying to do.
It's a P4 laptop with ~700mb of ram. This is a fresh install from the i386 DVD distro. Why is it so hard to get a running system in linux when Windows or Mac is ready to go in about an hour? I've spent a good 3 hours trying to find my way around this latest problem and I am SO close to giving up. What a waste of my time linux has been so far.
i have created 5 dual layer dvds which havefull lucid lynx repository . but before burning i want to check these dvds to be sure that is they are working fine . so , i want to mount these .iso files as a dvd source via software source manager .

The error

I tried relinking the libltdl.so.3 but I still got this error.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the fedora 13 installed on my pc, but I have chroot debian in my NAS arm. My question is for NAS, but is the same for only linux generally. Regarding NAS, some packets are old, because there are not binaries for latest version for a software. But I can install latest software from source configure, make, make install etc... In the case of NAS, this process goes for many hours like 12hours or more.
In order to avoid the same process again in the case of a clean install of chroot debian, or to configure 2-3 NASes that I have, how can I "backup" the software that other times fast install.

I've been always used to install fedora on my server this way : i put the fedora boot images on a pxe server, i copy the fedora install dvd to a ftp server, then i set the path of the dvd copy in the netinstall process.
But since a couple of release it doesn't work anymore, it keeps asking me for files in /repodata which doesn't exist on the dvd.
Is there any simple way to do this ? I tried cobbler using the dvd source, it create the repo fine with the proper files but it's too complicated, i just want the damn files.
I am running openSUSE 11.1. I installed the Hypervisor and tools and booted into: 2.6.27.23-0.1-xen. I'm trying to install Ubuntu LTS 8.04.3 as a guest using the "Create a Virtual Machine" GUI/wizard. I specify "other" since no Debian-based distro is offered under "Type of Operating System". Under "Installation Source" for "Operating System Installation" I Add a Virtual Disk of "phy:/dev/sr0" using protocol "phy". It can obviously read the drive since it recognizes that it is 0.6 GB (the media contains a burned & bootable (from ISO) DVD - the files are extracted).
However, when I proceed I am thrown an Error:
"The installation source is unusable." with Details:
"0.6 GB CD-ROM or DVD (phy:/dev/sr0)"
Am I supposed to do something different?

So I've installed a dependency from source since I needed to customize its config (couldn't figure out how to do this to a package). Synaptic doesn't recognize that it's installed and the program I want to install wants to reinstall this dependency. Specifically, I'm trying to get Kdenlive, and FFmpeg is the dependency.

I've had no success, however. It seems the most recent release is for Jaunty and I'm running Maverick. I guess there are some pretty well entrenched dependency issues. These talk about it: here and here. There doesn't seem to be a solution anywhere.. Does anyone have a potential solution to this? Has anyone even heard of Chandler?

I was recently trying to install Ruby from source, due to needing and older version and having yum acting up on me. The problem is, the executable is being installed to /usr/local/bin instead of /usr/bin. I figure there's probably a way to change the install directory at some point during the configure/make/make install process, but there's no man page for these functions, and Google has not been kind.
Thus, my questions are twofold:
1) Does anyone have any good documentation (ideally, with examples/explanations) of command line parameters available for configure and make?
2) Failing that, can anyone tell me in specific how to install a source code's compiled executable to a specific directory?
