I tried to change the basic toolbar to cairo dock,a tutorial that i found told me to write in terminal gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.listso i write it and a window opened,i couled not find the text that told me(the tutorial i mean)so i closed the window,after that i keep taiking the same error

What I was trying to do was update my Opera web browser, when I tried, Ubuntu told me that I was attempting to download from an unauthenticated source, I checked the software sources list and Opera was in there, so I deleted it and re-added it, I must have done it wrong because after closing out and refreshing "Update-manager" it gave me the error above and closed. So now I can't update anything.

There is a problem with my source list (apparently) I'm running 11.04 if that helps.When I try to use apt-get install update for example, I get: "Malformed line 59 in source list etc/apt/sources.list"The same error occurs when trying to access synaptic package manager, it tells me there is a malformed line and the list of sources cannot be read.This error prevents me from apt-getting anything, updating and i suspect it is affecting the software center too.

Each time I open either of them, I get an error stating "'E:Type 'ntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-natty.list'" and the update manager or software center closes. This has just been happening a few days ago and I would like a fix for it. I'm using 11.04 beta 1 and my WINE version is the latest development release. Anyone know how to fix this error? I tried unchecking my WINE PPAs in sources but that don't seem to do any good.

i already installed lucid and during installation i didn't change my location to Iran, now i can't see Iran's server in software sources. anybody has an idea how to add it to list? (i mean not to add it manually in "other software" tab)
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have using ubuntu 10.10 from past 3 months and about a week before upgraded to 11.04. The upgrade was a successful one and everything was back to normal, was enjoying unity. upgrading disabled most of the ppa's in the source list and later i enabled them and still everything was okay. yesterday suddenly when i clicked on the ubuntu software center it was just showing as if it was still processing the source list but after sometime it started giving me the below error: "E:Type 'rc' is not known on line 3 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/geod-ppa-geod-natty.list"

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got an iPhone 3g and have been trying to upload music onto my device with Rhythmbox because my computer exclusively runs Ubuntu (10.04 LTS, Lucid Lynx). Rhythmbox would show files that were dragged and dropped as being on the iPhone, and they appeared in the iPhone's folders, but they weren't recognized in the iPod player. I followed a variety of forum threads to try to fix the problem, but ended up creating a whole new set of problems with my package manager.

I'm trying to make another file annotation script a little speedier than it has been by the up-until-now proven method of checking the last four characters in a filename before the "dot" (eg .jpg, .psd) against a list of known IPTC categories and Exiv2 command files. It occurred to me that if one script generated a list of files in directory foo, and the same or another script sorted that list by that four-letter tag,then that list could be used(instead of a for/do/done loop on the real files in the folder) by the command-file-matching script to "vomit out" which annotator file would go with file nastynewfile.jpg, f'r'instance. Where I seem to be stuck is with how to sort the lines in templist, which may be any number of different lengths, from back to front. sort -k looked promising, except it seems only to work the other way round. I thought of invoking a

View 7 Replies View RelatedOriginally my ubuntu uses official source list as apt-get update target, obviously it is very slow, these days I find a source mirror in my own region, I want to replace original one with current mirror.
Although everything works OK but when I try to update a new software, it still downloads from original official websites, still slow, in fact it can be much faster if get from local regional.
Note the contents of my /etc/apt/sources.list. Only problem is when I run apt-get update there asome 'wheezy' update sources that I must have put it by accident. Where would they be coming from and how do I delete them?

I'm using Karmic 9.10 and think my original software source list has been removed. Have done all updates recently including Gnome do and standard ones. Think my software update karmic main and restricted universe list is somehow corrupted. With Karmic main showing Open office through the middle of the line. Tried putting in the Ubuntu 9.10 cd to update list but I don't know where to go from there as I'm new to certain stuff.

Is there a place online that has the default repository listings for 'Etch' & 'Lenny'? I did not lose them on both but this is something I would like to know in case it ever happens to me. Seems like this would be something easily available on the web but I can't find it on Debian's site and or via Google.

What happens if I update Debian Squeeze from Lenny's source.list?A step by step manual is written on Lenny, and if I change lenny to squeeze things seem to not work.When I update the squeeze from the original source.list and then change to the source.list that manual uses things are working.But if I were to start squeeze with lenny's source.list I am getting error while trying to do this:
