i have using ubuntu 10.10 from past 3 months and about a week before upgraded to 11.04. The upgrade was a successful one and everything was back to normal, was enjoying unity. upgrading disabled most of the ppa's in the source list and later i enabled them and still everything was okay. yesterday suddenly when i clicked on the ubuntu software center it was just showing as if it was still processing the source list but after sometime it started giving me the below error: "E:Type 'rc' is not known on line 3 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/geod-ppa-geod-natty.list"
Kernel Panic. I am using "HP Pavilion dvb 111x" "AMD Turion X2" "ATI RADEON Graphic Card" And "RHEL5"
I am not register user of Redhat. I am trying to switch kernel form linux-2.6.18.X To linux-2.6.27.53. I had download source of kernel and install it as per README file. During installation everything was fair but as I am trying to boot from my new kernel it shows me "Kernel Panic" error. It Displays
" ide_generic :I/O resorce 0x1F0-0x1F7 not free. ide_generic :I/O resorce 0x170-0x177 not free. Redhat nash version 5.1.19.6 starting. mount : Could not find filesystem. When opening "Update-manager" I get this error: E:Malformed line 47 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
What I was trying to do was update my Opera web browser, when I tried, Ubuntu told me that I was attempting to download from an unauthenticated source, I checked the software sources list and Opera was in there, so I deleted it and re-added it, I must have done it wrong because after closing out and refreshing "Update-manager" it gave me the error above and closed. So now I can't update anything.
I installed the latest kernel liquorix (2.6.35) but when i want to install the Nvidia driver downloaded on the Nvidia website (256.53), i have an error message because Nvidia doesn't found the kernel source tree.
I install linux-image-2.6.35-6.dmz.2-liquorix-686_2.6.35-16_i386.deb, linux-headers-2.6.35-6.dmz.2-liquorix-686_2.6.35-16_i386.deb and build-essential. I don't understand why the installation doesn't works.
I am trying to install an iso reader but no matter which package I choose they all return this error:The action would require the installation of packages from unauthenticated sources. These are all packages in the Ubuntu Software centre .
I'm attempting to compile the latest version of VLC from source. I'm able to run ./configure without any errors, however when I try to make I receive the following error. I don't want to install the program from the repositories because it's outdated and the tray icon doesn't blend in.
My system is playing CD's fine but I just tried a DVD (non-BluRay) and I get that error! I have googled about and though I already had the ubuntu-restricted-packages I didn't have all the gstreamer0.10plugins-bad installed (as seems to be the recommended fix). I now have them and MoviePlayer still gives the same error. I also want BluRay's to be playable and I was investigating that when I thought I would check whether normal DVD's were still working (I'm not sure whether I've tried a DVD since I upgraded to MM). The DVD mounts ok and appears on my desktop with the title.
I compiled and installed a new visual traceroute program on my laptop running Slackware 12.1, the program is called GTrace. After an initial ./configure attempt, the program said that I had to install the JDK package. I installed <jdk-6u11-i586-1.tgz> and reconfigured, then make and make install, (I also added a required BerkleyDB <db-2.7.7.tar.gz> file to the install directory, as per the webpage instructions). Now when I try to run the program, it attempts to start ( a window appears onscreen and then just stops and sits there). I then ran the program in the command line and this is the output:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /usr/local/GTrace/libdb/libdb_java.so: /usr/local/GTrace/libdb/libdb_java.so: undefined symbol: __gxx_personality_v0 at java.lang.ClassLoader$NativeLibrary.load(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary0(Unknown Source at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Unknown Source) at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(Unknown Source) at com.sleepycat.db.Db.load_db(Db.java:248) at com.sleepycat.db.Db.<clinit>(Db.java:263) at com.sleepycat.db.DbEnv.<clinit>(DbEnv.java:173) at caida.GTrace.GTrace.initGTrace(GTrace.java:444) at caida.GTrace.GTrace.<init>(GTrace.java:271) at caida.GTrace.GTrace.main(GTrace.java:1597)
I searched google for this error and found one user that had a similar output in another program, but after reading the other forum, I have no idea what they were talking about or how to fix this up. How I may overcome this JDK error to be able to run the visual traceroute program.
Getting extremely frustrated. Downloaded MiniTube from Ubuntu Software Center and it doesn't work. Every attempt to view a video is met with "Fatal error: cannot open media source" What gives?
I'm sometimes getting a 'duplicate source' error when I update, but not always. Sometimes it's just fine, without me having changed anything significant. To be honest I don't really understand what's going on.
Here's my sources.list : deb [URL] testing main deb-src [URL] testing main deb [URL] testing main contrib deb-src [URL] testing main contrib deb [URL] testing main non-free deb-src [URL] testing main non-free .....
Whats with the duplicate sources referring to /var/lib...? I've never touched that directory. Ever. And why are there three 'duplicates' of testing/main when clearly I only have two in sources.list? I'm confused. Is my sources.list set up properly? Usually, running another update immediately after the first one cleans up the errors, but this keeps coming back every few days.
I am running Xubuntu on a MacBook Pro with fluxbox as my window manager. Yesterday when I attempted to launch firefox I received a bus error and the application did not launch. I corrected the problem by removing and reinstalling firefox. Today the same problem is happening with emacs. I have not tried removing and reinstalling emacs so I am not sure if that will work but since the problem has occurred in more than one application now, I assume it points to a larger issue. I have done some research on bus errors but it isn't clear why this problem would manifest in different applications in this manner. After the a failed launch the dmesg reports this, which seems relevant:
I'm running spamassassin and want to install the fuzzyocr module for it. One of the dependencies of fuzzyocr is 'giflib' but according to the fuzzyocr page, it needs to be patched before I install it, with a patch which they supply on the fuzzyocr download page. I've tried to install the patch and get the following error.
I've been trying to install Compiz 0.8.4 from the source code provided by the Compiz people.
However, when I run make on the first set of code (compiz-0.8.4 tar package), it halts with the following error:
Code:
As well as --disable-gconf and --disable-gnome since gnome isn't install on Slackware (I've also tried it without those, but it picks up on it anyway and throws them out). The folder I'm running this from is /root/Desktop/Compiz Fusion/compiz-0.8.4.
I'm trying to install the calculator Qalculate from source so I download the tar.gz package for KDE from their official website to my ~/Downloads folder. I unzipped it with
Code: Select all tar xzf qalculate-kde-0.9.7.tar.gz
I moved the exploded folder to my /home/guest/ folder (my user-name is guest), I entered the qalculate-kde-0.9.7 folder and searched for a INSTALL or README file. Here's what the INSTALL file says to do. The INSTALL file says to run the following commands
After giving the first command, trouble started; here's what I got:
Code: Select allroot@aliquis:/home/guest/qalculate-kde-0.9.7# ./configure checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking for -p flag to install... yes
[Code] .....
This is impossible, as I am running a fully functioning kde system. What should I do? I don't find the kde version of Qalculate in Apper...
This error pops up randomly since last night, what is it about? I thought its maybe related to [URL] but I did not install/update/change anything with yum or packagekit for a few days. Could it be a problem with the daily update-check?
while installing the linux-2.6.31 source code in fedora 12 I got an error: [root@pratyush linux-2.6.31]# make install sh /home/parag/rpmbuild/SOURCES/linux-2.6.31/arch/x86/boot/install.sh 2.6.31 arch/x86/boot/bzImage System.map "/boot" /sbin/new-kernel-pkg: line 277: /sbin/mkinitrd: No such file or directory mkinitrd failed
I am trying to install NIC driver, at last when I am using command make the following output is coming. How to come out from this error: Makefile:65 *** Linux source not found. Stop.
please i try to compile the below code on ubuntu with g++ but i was getting an error message
fig03_05.cpp:10: error: new types may not be defined in a return type fig03_05.cpp:10: note: (perhaps a semicolon is missing after the definition of GradeBook) fig03_05.cpp:32: error: two or more data types in declaration of main
uname -r prints 2.6.18-164.el5 Yum install kernel-headers/kernel-devel gives me 2.6.18-194 When trying to run virtualbox I get an error: Kernel Driver not installed: (rc=-1908) Please reinstall the kernel module by running "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" as root...

I'm assuming the setup program is using the output from uname -r to determine the kernel, the problem is the kernel sources I've got from yum do not jibe with the uname value.
I have installed SUSE 11.2 and have performed update software manually, using YaST > Online Update. This all appears to be successful. I am getting an error dialog that says Problem connecting to a software source There was a (possibly temporary) problem connecting to a software source. Pleas check the detailed error for further updates. the details are as follows:
I do have a problem on updating linux ubuntu 10 I'll show you the error and my sources.list.. Error in authenticating some packages: It was not possible to authenticate some packages. This may be a transient network problem. You may want to try again later. See below for a list of unauthenticated packages.
I am trying to build abcde from slackbuilds.org and include needed packages like id3. When I went to build it I was unable to download the source from [url] and I get a 404 error in dutch. I was wondering if anyone had this issue or if there was another trusted place to grab the source code? I checked the archives of the slackbuilds-user mailing list to see if the issue is already known, but I didn't see anything.
So I've been trying to get GIMP 2.7 installed on my Slackware64 13.0, but I'm having some issues. After some extensive finagling and dependence findings, I got it to configure correctly, however, the make fails with libtool trying to find libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la:
libtool: link: cannot find the library '..//usr/lib64/pkgconfig/gdk-pixbuf/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la' or unhandled argument '..//usr/lib64/pkgconfig/gdk-pixbuf/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la'
libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la is in /usr/lib64/pkgconfig/, but for whatever reason, editing the makefile doesn't change this. (Yes I have the right permissions to edit it). First of all, why is it searching for /usr in the top build directory, and second, why doesn't an edit of the makefile work?
Is there any open source virtual machine so i can study the source in order to create my own? i'm gonna write my own, so it doesNT matter if license does not allow further development of the code.
