I downloaded Fedora 13 today and tried the live cd, however, after booting my mouse was a square that is white and scrambled. I am trying the KDE version and it also has no task bar or anything other than a window with icon to install. nothing else is there.

I have to close and re-open Firefox. This especially happens when I activate the "Flashblock" plugin, a very useful tool that blocks all Flash unless you click on it and choose to play it. Whenever I have that enabled, most of the time, clicking on the "play" button produces the white area where the Flash object should be. It's Karmic 64 and Firefox 3.5, Shockwave Flash 10.0.

Problem When installed debian on the virtual server it asked for a Network Connectivity Hardware and my network card was not found on the list and i have alredy my debian install img file selected sow how do select the supported exe file for my network card in hyper v if i have alredy mounted my iso file?

i have experiemented different way to install Linux Integration Components 2.6.32 and had no luck intstalling sow my question is that becuse hyper v is not supporting debian that's why it's not working? Should i search for a another virtual server software? anybody can recomened a good virtualization software running on windows server 2008 r2?
I'm a (very) recent Ubuntu convert. Today I burned the Ubuntu 9.10 ISO to a CD with DiskUtility (Mac) and installed it on an old dell laying around (I installed it on the whole disk--no partition, no trace of Windows left behind). Anyway, it was really awesome and running really fast, until I opened up F-Spot picture manager. It was working well until I went into a slideshow. It started lagging and eventually froze up. I tried pressing f5 to get out of full screen then trying to hit esc and then Alt+4 in an effort to close it.
In the end I had to hold down the power button to make it shut down. When I turned it on again, it started normally and went to the black and white Ubuntu logo, then just went to a black screen. I tried again, and this time got a GNU thing (called Grub, I think?) asking if I wanted to do recovery mode. I entered my username and password and it had an error and went to a black screen. Should I just put my LiveCD back in and install it over my previous installation..?
I am using wine for a couple of programs, such as spotify and winscp. These used to work great, untill the latest wine update last week. Suddenly, the fonts are scrambled and all wine programs became unusable. I tried to reinstall my programs and to reinstall wine, but to no avail.

I created bootable USB stick in Ubuntu the hard way in console. When I am booting and when my status bar is half full with white color I get white screen, where is the problem please?

Just installed Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit on my computer dual booting with 9.10 32bit. Was hoping to move to 64 bit to get full use out of my RAM and CPU. The issue is that when I tried to run Compiz-Fusion that I got from the Ubuntu software repos that came with 9.10 nothing would change. I tried to make a 4 desktop layout with a cube like I have on the 32 bit OS and nothing happens. So I right click on the Compiz icon and select the "reload windows manager" tap in the drop down menu and every time it turns to a blank screen of white with a mouse on it. I can move the mouse and I can even use some of the new settings I changed but I cant see anything else besides a mouse and the white screen. I feel as thou I am using a version of Compiz that is not compatible with 9.10 64 bit.

I have big troubles with new mouse. It works properly in all cases except booting. It is really strange but if I restart the system (11.3), There is BIOS hdd detection, GRUB (I choose oS 11.3), after I can see about three text lines for short time and after only black screen. And system is halted.
If I disconnect the mouse, reset PC, choose in GRUB, I can see text lines, immediately there is a graphic screen, connect mouse and it works until next reboot.
I've installed CentOS lot's of times, but I've never had an issue like this before. It's just a black screen, and all I see is a mouse. I see some drive activity, but I gave it a good hour and it's just sitting there. Not sure what to do here or what's causing the issue. There were no problems during the install. I'm trying to install it on an old Dell PowerEdge 1900 server. Edit: If I go to the console, top is showing X and gdm taking 10+% of the CPU and there's a high load. Which is odd because this is a fresh install..

The blocks are arranged in a 17 by 30 pattern and have two different colors. This happens with 3 different versions of Fedora 13. The 32 bit live CD version, the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version. I am able to start a live CD version of Fedora 10 but not the live CD version of Fedora 13 on this computer. The computer has an Asus P6X58D Premium mother board, an Intel i7-950 CPU and an EVGA GeForce GT 240 display.

This works, except on the node the user and group are displayed as "4294967294".
On the server: ls -al ./ displays

whereas on the node

I have usermod and groupmod the username cu to have the same numbers on the node.
On the server: id displays
uid=1021(cu) gid=1007(cu) groups=1007(cu),109(admin)
on the node
uid=1021(cu) gid=1007(cu) groups=1007(cu)
I'm stumpeed as to what the problem could be.
I should perhaps add that the home directory is /mirror/cu (so that the users share the same account when mounted). Not sure if thats relevent though...
My /etc/exports file (on the server) looks like this
/mirror *(rw,sync)
and I do the mount (on the node) with
sudo mount server:/mirror /mirror
I just upgraded to Ubutntu 11.04 64 bit, using the default Unity setup. Everything seems to work fine apart from labels on the dashboard, about half of them appear scrambled. When I press the Ubutnu icon on the top left some of the text is also scrambled. I have an integrated Intel graphics card.

The resolution/length/etc is correct, but the picture is all weird. Webm doesn't work at all.
I tried mplayer, kmplayer, smplayer, gxine, totem and kplayer. All the same.
However, the exact same video's play back normally in HTML5 pages with a bunch of browsers on the same machine. They also play back normally on a Windows machine. There is no DRM involved.
Aren't these gstreamer en mplayer based players supposed to handle this correctly?
This is an Intel Core i3 machine with Intel HD graphics.
I turned on screen compositing in xubuntu 9.1 and that scrambled the screen and now I can't read the screen. How do I undo that change? If I alt-ctr-F2 that goes to the command line. Then restartx goes back to the scrambled screen. Why does xubuntu recovery mode not offer any option to redo the video. Sorry, I assumed Xubuntu would ask for a confirmation like 'click yes if you can still see the screen' before allowing a change that can toast the system.
Also I tried:
metacity --replace returns Window manager error: Unable to open X display
xfwm4 --replace returns (xfwm4:145: Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display
I just install xen and kernel-xen version 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5xen, booting into the xen kernel dom0 shows me continous colorful scrambling and scrolling. I can ssh to dom0 and get correct display but the dom0 console is where it shows the colorful garbage scrolling. i have the Supermicro X7DC motherboard with a XGI Z9 graphics card. GUI is not installed and I don't have the rhgb parameter in my grub.conf. My grub.conf is plain and unmodified.

The icon for check for updates in the tray, it's blank or scrambled. If you search google for "birthday images". Then click on "Images for "birthday images". They are scrambled. I don't have the nvidia driver installed. Reloading the page doesn't affect it. suse 10.3 64bit nvidia 9800gt video card

While playing videos i cant bring any other windows in front. The video always stays in front. Its not the entire window just the video clip alone. Moreover the rightclick menu is also not displayed properly while playing a video. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have custom built Linux kernel (2.6.31) and also xorg. xorg is using xserver 1.7.3 . I have an application which simulates the mouse and sends mouse move events. When I switch the device on, the system boots and Xorg comes up, I can see X cursor on the system. When I start sending mouse move events from the application, the cursor do not move. If I attach mouse to the device and then move the mouse, from this point onwards the mouse events get detected from the simulation application. I have checked the dmesg log as follows

I have install fedora11 live and the mouse work well when installing.When you reboot the mouse works ok until the welcome screen apears then the mouse stops working and I cannot continue with the postinstall. View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.

So i asked for help, and everybody just say install windows. And where is fun in that. If people when ever run into problem with some software on linux just install windows. Linux would never go forward. I m not some great gamer, but i would like to be able to play this game. Probably somebody run into same problem. I have an Artigo A1100 which has the Chrome9 video. When I boot up the system on the Artigo I see the initial boot sequence, the Ubuntu logo and then when it is about to go to the desktop login screen the video goes completely scrambled. I can type in my login and password and I see the screen change as if it has logged in, but it is completely scrambled.
It almost reminds me of the problems old tv's had when the screen would start flipping because it wasn't dialed in just right. If I hit ALT+CTRL+F1 it will go to the command line interface and everything looks fine. it is the newest release of Ubuntu I downloaded yesterday and I know it works because I installed to a USB drive and everything works just fine when I boot off the drive using another computer of mine.

Did I miss a step or do something wrong while upgrading?
