OpenSUSE Install :: 10.3 Network - Configure Ethernet Connection Or Wireless Card

Oct 2, 2010

I installed 10.3 (after buying it a couple of years ago and letting sit on the shelf) and can't get it to configure my ethernet connection or my wireless card. Yast doesn't include a list of available cards, and the error I get in installation-network setup is that the kernel isn't present. The machine I'm installing this on is a Lenovo, in which there isn't a discrete ethernet card (it's in the motherboard), but my wireless card (a Cisco LINKSYS 802.11G) is a discrete card. Because I'm divorcing Microsoft for a number of valid reasons, I don't have Windows available on that box.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.1 On Eee PC 1005HA - Configure Function Keys Support For Volume Controls And Wireless?

Oct 26, 2009

I put together a step-by-step guide of how I installed openSUSE 11.1 on my ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA Netbook. I planned on going back and re-installing using my own guide to check for mistakes, etc. but I never seem to get around to it, so I'll just post what I have and let you guys comment if you run into issues. Side notes: This guide assumes you want to wipe out Windows XP and run only openSUSE. Sorry, I'm a Gates hater.

I still haven't figured out how to configure the function keys support for volume controls and wireless. I'm hoping the "eeepc kernel module" mentioned by malcolmlewis here: Suse on my Asus 1005HA - openSUSE Forums will do the trick.

Fedora Networking :: 11 With 4965agn - Configure Wireless Connection Using NetworkManager Right After Booting Up

Jun 13, 2009

The symptom is that NetworkManager repeatedly ask for password to connect to my AP.My AP is secured with WPA-PKI. The problem even happens with Fedora 11 live cd if I'm not quickly configure wireless connection using NetworkManager right after Fedora completes booting up. It means if I promptly configure wireless connection, i'm still able to access Internet. Same thing happens for the first boot of Fedora from hdd. For the second boot or when I dont quickly configure wireless connection when system finished booting up, NetworkManger repeatedly asks for password for AP.

I did try several approaches posted in this forum but problem still persisted. Some of approaches I tried are:

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Configure Wireless From YAST> Network Settings?

Jun 24, 2011

I am trying to configure a wireless connection from YAST under the Network Settings tool.It doesn't seem to do anything. My USB wifi device is detected in YAST > Hardware and I am using the module it says Hardware is using. It doesn't seem to save the module under YAST> Network Settings> Network Card Setup. Is this tool broken or useless? It seems setting up WiFi should be easier than this. YAST should work shouldn't it?

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wireless Networks And Unable To Configure Network

Jul 27, 2010

I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.

Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network

However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.

Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

Fedora :: Install And Configure PEA Support So All Memory Is Recognized?

Aug 20, 2010

First of all I'm not a very experienced linux user, I have installed fedora 13 on my HP Laptop and it has 8Gb installed, (confirmed in Bios) grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo

MemTotal: 3088492 kB It's less then 8Gb

googling about it it seems that I ineed PEA support for my kernel. It seems that fedora 13 should install this if needed, correct me if I'm wrong. uname -a Linux mjohanss-pc.kentor.se 2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.i686 #1 SMP Fri Jul 23 17:27:40 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux If PEA support was installed I think PEA should be seen after .fc13.i686 in the output. How can I install and configure PEA support so all my memory is recognized?

Fedora Installation :: F12 Install Doesn't Configure On Board Network Connection

Apr 7, 2010

Doing a fresh F12 install on a Dell Vostro 430. Machine needs to have 2 Network adapters for our setup. The install seems to go just fine but the on board network adapter doesn't appear to get detected/configured. If I look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts all I find is ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-lo. Looking carefully at ifcfg-eth0 I see it's the second card that I've put in the machine. As a test I removed the second network card and did another fresh install of F12. This time in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts all I have is ifcfg-lo. When I go to system>Administration>Network Device Control I see no network devices displayed.

Is this an issue others have seen with F12 or is it possible my on board network adapter has an issue?BTW I did check the BIOS to be sure that Onboard Lan was enabled and it is.output from "lspci -k " with both cards installed on machine (I only listed Ethernet controllers)

Fedora :: Compile From Source - Install Buddi Budget Manager And The ./configure Command Doesn’t Work

Nov 24, 2009

Ive been using linux for a few months now and every now and again i come accross a program that doesnt have a rpm package but says that it can be installed on Fedora using source. I'm familiar with build essentials and the following commands:-

tar xzvf package.tar.gz
cd package
./configure
make
make install

but from what i have read fedora uses a differnet compiler. I'm trying to install Buddi budget manager and the ./configure command doesnt work, which im guessing is because it doesnt have a configure file? Can anyone confirm how to compile from source and whether there are any tutorials specific to fedora.

General :: Iwconfig - Can't Configure Wireless Network

Mar 6, 2011

I've beenhaving some trouble getting my wireless network card working on my Slackware 12 box. Currently it identifies the card and can scan for networks, but I can't seem to join a network. Here's some output:

{8:46:29}gibson:/lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp## iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 Scan completed :
Cell 01 - Address: F8:1E:DF:FF:DA:39
ESSID:"MasterControl"

[code]....

It doesn't seem to be accepting the essid setting, and it's giving an error for the key setting. Also, I'm noticing an inconsistency in the wireless protocols. The AP claims that it's 802.11g with rates up to 54 Mb/s. But it should be 802.11n. It's an Apple Airport Extreme and the Radio Mode is set to Automatic and displays "802.11a/n-02.11b/g/n" on the Airport Utility. The interface also claims that it's 802.11g, though shows a rate of 300 Mb/s. It's a Belkin "Play" Wireless USB Adapter (F7D4101).

(Note: I'm using ndiswrapper and the WinXP drivers which were installed from the Belkin software.)

Ubuntu Networking :: Configure Wireless PCI NIC In 10.10 Server?

Nov 12, 2010

I've installed 10.10 server edition on a box I just want to use for file storage/backup, uPnP server, etc. The area I need to put the box doesn't have ethernet as an option so I'm trying to get this wireless NIC configured. It's a Buffalotech WLI2-PCI-G54S which runs the Broadcom 4306 chipset. I've managed to get the drivers for the card installed via the instructions here: [URL]

The drivers are working properly as I can run

Code:
iwlist scan

and see all the wireless networks it detects. I found the info here: [URL] to complete the configuration, but I'm still unable to get it right. My wireless router is configured to use WPA2-PSK with AES. I could just try installing gnome and get the GUI network config, but would like to avoid that if possible.
