Ubuntu Servers :: Install Postfix In Order To User Squirrelmail Or Roundcube?

Nov 20, 2010

I'm configuring a server but at this time I can't send mail. I tried using the PHP mail() function and it didn't work. Webmin says I have no mail configured. I'll be the only user and mail recipient. I've used Squirrelmail and Roundcube before and liked them.

Do I need to install Postfix in order to user Squirrelmail or Roundcube? How should I set up mail?

Here's my setup:

10.04 LTS Server edition
Webmin 1.520
Apache 2.x
MySQL 5.x
PHP 5.x

Server :: Configure Postfix To Relay Mail To Multiple Internal Mail Servers With Different Domains?

Aug 6, 2010

Two exchange servers internally. One is setup for example.com (192.168.1.10) and the other is setup for example2.com (192.168.1.20) Both are behind a single public IP.

I want to use postfix to sit in front of the two exchange servers. Postfix will accept mail for both domains and relay to the appropriate server. I have postfix installed with only defaults at this point.

Fedora Servers :: Configure Evolution-mail Clients Through SQUID Proxy?

I have configured router(192.168.1.2) to serve only one machine with IP - '192.168.1.6' and set up SQUID proxy on '192.168.1.6'. I have defined some rules(ACL) regarding connections to internet on SQUID proxy.

I changed the Gateway of rest of machine (192.168.1.60 - 192.168.1.69) from '192.168.1.2' to '192.168.1.6'.

The policies which I defined in SQUID is working properly but 'Linux Evolution mail' client is not fetching mails.

Is I have to do any other settings on 'Linux System' or 'Evolution mail client'.

Ubuntu Servers :: Roundcube Cannot Connect To Imap - Dovecot

Jul 20, 2010

I have a problem connecting my roundcube to my imap server.

So, here it is : I have a working imap server (dovecot), installed following the guide provided here [url]. I can successfully telnet it, or ssl it (from localhost or from another ip of my local network). I can even use my thunderbird from another local computer. Well, for me it is working fine.

Then I installed roundcube (0.3.1-3) with synaptic, but I cannot connect to my localhost imap server.

I have set auth as plain ($rcmail_config['imap_auth_type'] = 'plain';)

Looking in my dovecot log, i see two different behaviour. One is when it seems correct, and roundcube log in imap server, but is disconnect immediately :

Second is when server is refusing the password :

I am working with a plain text passwd, with no encryption at all. Does roundcube encrypt the password I type before to sent it to imap ?

I cannot explain the first behaviour, when roundcube sometimes managed to connect but disconnect immediately. I manage ONE time to reach my mailboxes, but i don't know how, and this never happens again.

Ubuntu Servers :: Configure To Send And Receive Mail From Multiple Sub Domains Of Domain?

Jun 14, 2011

I want to configure a single mail server to send and receive mail from multiple sub domains of my domain. I've already installed Postfix/Dovecot and it is perfectly working for mydomain.com. And also installed roundcube for Web Mail. Can I further customize this setup to process mail to sub domains? ex- someone@subdomain1.mydomain.com, someone@subdomain2.mydomain.com, someone2@subdomain1.mydomain.com (someone@subdomain1.mydomain.com and someone@subdomain2.mydomain.com are 2 separate users. they should be able to log on to web interface separately)

Currently i use system account names as email user names. (ex - systemusername@mydomain.com). The only MX record in my domain DNS pointed to current server (mailhost.mydomain.com). I read about postfix virtual domains. but couldnt figure out how to use it to achive my target. I do not need configuration details. Just explain me the way to do it. I can do the rest my self.

Software :: Install - Configure And Run Mail Server On Debian

Aug 7, 2010

I found on internet some how-tos for install postfix-dovecot-squirrel mail, but I am not sure that I want dovecot(I prefer courier email server if it is the same).

As I understand I need
smtp mail server -> postfix Mail Transfer Agent
imap and pop3 -> dovecot / courier email server?
webapplication -> squirrel mail

For squirrel mail I am sure that i will install it(I used it on other server and I like it), but don't know for other parts. I read that postfix is good choice, but what other options I have for dovecot?

Ubuntu Servers :: Secondary Mail Server And A Mail Gateway/relay?

Aug 3, 2011

Our primary mail server is Exchange 2003 Standard on Windows Server 2003 Standard - don't shout at me; I inherited it already set up this way.I have a couple of hardware identical redundant servers (HP ML350 boxes), all with very fast 2 or 4 disk arrays, multiple core CPUs and plenty of memory, and I am looking at two potential new additions to the infrastructure.

A secondary mail server is high on my list of priories. I've been well and truly bitten by Exchange in the past and given that this particular box has been running four years straight and that it's mail store is dangerously large, having a secondary mail server in place suddenly makes a lot of sense.

A new Exchange 2010 box is currently being set up, but the secondary mail server will remain in place even when the new Exchange server is brought online, so this won't be a wasted exercise.... I also want a gateway box in place to filter and relay mail to the primary server, or to the secondary server if the primary is unavailable. Currently our outer perimeter is:

ISP supplied CISCO router
Draytek VigorPro 5510 UTM

Untangle running in bridged mode (primarily used for SPAM filtering, URL blacklisting, and very little else) Exchange 2003 sits behind the Untangle box. This is how I want to end up:

CISCO >> Draytek >> Ubuntu gateway >> Exchange/secondary mail server

I know I could replace/remove the Draytek but I want it to remain for several reasons, including lots of VPN dial-in users already configured and that it offers us an additional layer of email antivirus scanning before things hit the Exchange box. No point switching all of our remote workers over to new tunnels unnecessarily...

I have done some research and have started testing a pilot secondary mail server using Ubuntu/postfix DNS is properly set up and MX records and reverse PTR records are all present and correct, and things are looking encouraging so far. Before I go out over deep waters and start to flounder, has anyone who has done something like this got any obvious howlers I should be looking to avoid ?

Fedora Servers :: Setting Up An Outgoing Mail Using 587?

Oct 25, 2009

I have a small home network running mail agents Evolution and Thunderbird, and connected to the internet via Comcast. Originally I used my campus office computer as a mail server, but encountered problmes because Comcast started blocking port 25, allegedly because of span problems. I need to change the setup on my campus office computer so it uses port 587 when functioning as an outgoing mail server.

Can anyone recommend a tutorial which tells me everything to do in order to accomplish that?

At present I'm, using Comcast's outgoing mail server, but I started having problems with sporadic blokage of outgoing mail with attachments, which Comast can't explain.

Fedora Servers :: OpenLDAP - Cannot Add Value To 'mail' Attribute

Nov 30, 2009

After installing F11, I installed OpenLdap with the command "yum -y install openldap*" And added the password obtained through the command "slappasswd -s password -h {MD5}" into /etc/openldap/slapd.conf. Also, I specified the domain information within the file on "suffix" and "rootdn". I also modified the domain name in both /etc/openldap/ldap.conf and /etc/ldap.conf. I copied the Copied the /usr/share/doc/openldap-servers-2.4.15/DB_CONFIG.example to /var/lib/ldap/DB_CONFIG. Then started the server with the command /etc/rc.d/init.d/ldap start I then was able to create and delete OU's and CN's with the help of ldapadd and ldapdelete. I also created PERSON records using the base.ldif file with the content ;

dn: cn=user1, ou=domain, dc=example, dc=com
objectClass: person
cn: user1
sn: user1

Everything is OK until I try to add a person with an email address in the "mail" attribute. The error message is ;

***************************
adding new entry "cn=user1, ou=domain, dc=example, dc=com
ldap_add: Object class violation (65)
additional info: attribute 'mail' not allowed
***************************

This error message is appearing also with "uid" attribute. I have searched some forums and found some suggestions to include the line
"include /etc/openldap/schema/inetorgperson.scheme" in the file /etcopenldap/slapd.conf, which is already in.

Ubuntu Servers :: Postfix Relay - Exchange Sends The Mail Instead Giving Recipient Mail A Valid Reverse DNS Lookup

Jan 12, 2011

The scenario: We have an external server that runs HTTP/DB servers for out shop system. Then, there's our local, in-house infrastructure that runs a.. yeah... Exchange 2010. The shop system on the external server needs to send mails to customers (order confirmations, invoices, etc.). seing as sending them directly through the local MTA (Postfix) would cause mail delivery problems because of reverse DNS issues, i've set the Postfix MTA to act as a satellite to our in-house Exchange Server, so the Exchange sends the mail instead, giving recipient mail servers a valid reverse DNS lookup.

Now, mails sent by the (proprietary, uneditable) shop system are relayed correctly and sent to the target e-mail address. My problem is: Mails not sent by the shop system, but by our own PHP scripts which run on that same external servers, are NOT relayed properly. So the Exchange is fine with the mails sent by the shop system, but not the mails sent by our scripts. This is what i get in the mail.log: The successfully relayed mail sent by the shop system:

Fedora Servers :: Can't Send My Outgoing Mail Using Port 587 / Why Is So?

Dec 10, 2009

I have installed a sendmail server on fedora 10
I try to configure my sendmail server as a mail server to send outgoing email using port 587( because port 25 is blocked). after finishing configuring my sendmail server, i checked out my sendmail server using telnet localhost 587, and it worked fine as below code...

I have tried two different ways for user name: name, or name@mail.mydomian.com, but not working at all, the two results are the same.
PS: I have test port 587 and can use port 587 and Kmail to send outgoing mail using other external relay server

is my wrong configuration for sendmail server or kmail?

Fedora Servers :: Force Php Mail() Through Postfix + Auth?

Mar 8, 2011

I'm a bit lost with the PHP/Sendmail configuration, maybe somebody could help me getting back on the right track. Following situation:

Postfix:

* accepts smtp on port 25 but from his own domains. Some policy and spamchecks through amavisd are made.

* accepts submission on port 587 and 465 from authenticated users only. Quota and spamchecks prevent outgoing spam.

So I'm enforcing a very strong outgoing spam-policy but the users are still able to use the php mail() function to send spam through the /usr/sbin/sendmail command.
My users have access to their own php.ini so my idea was to somehow enforce the delivery through the local postfix on port 587 or 465 and just let them enter their user/pass in their php.ini. (I suppose, their might be a cleaner-solution ).

Unfortunately, my configurations like smtp_host, port, user etc. are getting ignored if the sendmail_path line is active. But if I comment this line out, php just uses the default, which is the same as configured in the sendmail_path line - so it's active whether i use the line or not (setting it to an invalid command breaks the mail() function completely).

how can I enforce my anti-spam policy on the php mail() command? For my ssh users I just blocked the outgoing connection to localhost on port 25 which seems to work so far, but somehow the postfix-sendmail-wrapper just ignores this.
