Red Hat / Fedora :: Updating Glibc And Glibc_common?
Aug 18, 2010
im running centos 4.4final and i have glibc, and glibc_common installed on version 2_3. Im trying to install the 2_9 rpm, but it says that it conflicts with 2_3, how can i upgrade the 2_3 to 2_9? i tryed using yum update glinc / glibc_common, and yum install, didnt work.
I've been working to get gcc up and running on a new install of Fedora 13. glibc-devel had dependencies upon installation where it required glibc and glibc-common, both 2.12.1-3. No problem, found both at rpm dot pbone dot net. However, when I try to install the following circular dependency results... it doesn't matter the order of install.
Code:
[root AT localhost gcc_install]# rpm -ivh glibc-common-2.12.1-3.x86_64 .rpm error: Failed dependencies: glibc = 2.12.1-3 is needed by glibc-common-2.12.1-3.x86_64
I notice that these two packages contain the same files and uninstalling glibc-i18n doesn't uninstall the internationalization files, because they are also in the glibc package. Is this a mistake or is this normal or is there a reason for it ? I just made my own glibc package to fix this, but was wondering why this is the way it is...
I have installed Zimbra 6.0.1 and updated to Zimbra 7.1.0, the problem is that it needs the glibc-2.10 to start one of its services. I tried everything but i'dont get to update the glibc.

I am in process to install oracle 10g on said OS.My process fails and after digging up , I came to know that some of the oracle libraries are compiled on 32-bit architecture and it require glibc-32 bit . also it require for gcc-32 bit.
Now i have downloaded all the required rpm for gcc-32bit . when I try to install glibc and its dependencies , it gives me error that newer version already exist.
How can I install , Gcc-32bit(libgc, libstd-i386 etc) in parallel or standalone?
I made an update of my Centos 5.5 yesterday. In doing so glibc has been updated to glibc.i686. Just now some of my FPGA tools crash. Unfortunately there isn't a downgrade for glibc.i686. How can I replace glibc.i686 by glibc.i386?A simple yum install glibc.i386 conflicts with the files from package glibc-2.5-65.i686

I am in very much need to resolve the issue of Upgrade redhat5 from glibc 2.5 to glibc 2.7. The problem is when I run a binary compiled on our build setup (glibc 2.11) on Suse 11 (glibc 2.9) it works fine...
But the same binary do not work on redhat enterprise version 5 telling error as need glibc2.7 or sometimes segmentation fault for the same binary execution.
I tried upgrading the redhat glibc 2.5 to glibc 2.7, but not successful.
Yesterday, I think I did something stupid: I removed kernel-headers, gcc, glibc-devel and glibc-headers. My box is a CentOS 5.4 webserver (it has loads of packages installed, but that was done through Virtualmin config, so it's quite coherent all in all). The thing is that now I need to reinstall at least the headers and glibc, but hey! this is what I get :
I use FC 10 on my desktop. It is great!. But I have some troubles with installing new software via yum or rpm. Most of install/update/upgrade transactions fail. The yum prints string: Error: Missing Dependency: glibc-common = 2.9-2 is needed by package glibc-2.9-2.x86_64 (installed) I tried to manually install or update the glibc-common via yum or rpm, but it fails. The # uname -a -i -p returns

When I try to install (using yum) various things like wine in 64-bit F12, I get
Code: Missing dependency: glibc-common = 2.11-2 is needed by package glibc-2.11-2.i686 (fedora) What is currently installed is glibc-common-2.11-4.x86_64
Recently, I am trying to use a complied software on Linux OS. I need to use X-Windows to do some initialize. When I run this software, I am getting the error: '/lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found' I also checked the version of GLIBC on my computer, the highest one is GLIBC_2.3.4. So I have to update my glibc to 2.4 or higher. Some tips said it can be done using yum. I am a new user for linux. Could anyone guide me to do that? Here is the information of my computer: Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 (Nahant Update ; Linux 2.6.9-89.0.3.ELsmp #1 SMP Sat Jun 13 07:02:28 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I have both glibc.i686 and glibc.x86_64 installed in Fedora 14 because I have programs that require both. Using a yum update gives me the following error: file /usr/share/doc/glibc-2.12.90/NEWS from install of glibc-2.12.90-19.i686 conflicts with file from package glibc-2.12.90-18.x86_64
What is the best way to work around this issue? Trying an "yum update glibc.x86_64" gives me the corresponding opposite error. Doing a "yum update glibc.i686 glibc.x86_64" gives a longer list of dependency conflicts with glibc-headers and glibc-common.
I have a 3dsp pci wifi card, and the last kernel it supports is Ubuntu 10.04 2.6.32-(21-24) I want to update but dont want to accidentally update the kernal.
I have been trying to update from Fedora 10 to a newer version, when I try the auto update thing that pops up occasionally it says newer version available and lists Fedora 11, when I click on the preinstall which I thought was some info on it iyt starts trying to update to Fedora 12. I posted about this earlier (I can not even find the thread any more) and an administrator pointed me to a wiki which stated there is no way to get from 10 to 12. My question is how do I even get to 11, when I tried the preinstall the trouble I ran into was no space in /boot. I tried to remove other installs and when I went to the preinstall again it froze and I waited an hour then switched off the machine. Upon rebooting I got a message missing file and could not boot at all so i reinstalled Fedora 10. Now I am stuck as I tried a yum install as another suggested and could not get repository, and I had a working internet connection. I also seen in your list of laptops that work my laptop works but has some problems with internet. I can not use wireless, in reality I occasionally can use wireless, what I can always use is my sprint cdma broadband card, will I lose this if I try to upgrade, would I be best to try and burn an iso image and if so is there any way to figure out if it has cdma support?
My office PC is offline, so I download updates/12/x86_64/{drpms,repodata} from fedora reposiroty to my home PC then copying them to my office PC's ftp server. Then I use yum to update from my own repository server. But I found the drpms are not enough to perform a complete updating. Some *.rpm pakage are still need download.
My question is: How do I know which package should be complete downloaded from rpm and which package download the drpm is enough?
I can install and update Fedora11 as well as other softwares at my office through internet. However, at home I don't have any net connection. Is it possible that I collect all files including their dependencies from my office computer in a pen drive and then update my home computer?
Can I update from F12 32bit to F14 64bit without doing a fresh install, and preferably using preupdate? Would most of the already installed programs still work?
In Fedora 10 evolution 2.24.5 is installed. I have downloaded and extracted evolution-2.30.1 to my home folder. Evolution still shows 2.24.5 not 2.30.1. How do I update 2.24.5 to 2.30.1? Do I just commamd install 2.30.1, and if so, how?
I recently upgraded Fedora 9 to Fedora 10 on a triple boot system (Fedora 9, Win XP and Ubuntu 8.04). The upgrade seemed to run fine until rewriting the boot loader, which failed. The old Fedora 9 entries remained. The Fedora 10 installation is found by Supergrub but attempting to boot generates the error: Error 15: File not found
When i tryed to update my virtualbox 3.0.12 to 3.1. i got an error message. #yum install VirtualBox-3.1-3.1.2

Earlier today I was simply on my laptop watching videos, I finish, shut my PC down. I reboot hours later only to get greeted by the Fedora Boot Splash Screen and shortly after nothing but blackness, no login screen or nothing, I see the mouse cursor shortly after the boot splash for 2 seconds then it disappears. I made no recent changes to any files besides applying some updates via the package manager, I had to recently reformat due to a self-blunder and lost crucial data, now a week has passed and I've managed to "rebuild" my data loss back up. Now this is hindering my college course work which is done online.
I have a number of systems with Fedora on them, they are connected to a network but are not allowed to connect to the internet. So I am trying to find a solution to patch these systems in a simple way.My solution which i thought of, however, still having a problem with is as follows:
1- Download the files from the "repodata" (e.g. for "update" repository) using a machine that is connected to the internet.
2- Copy these files(e.g. using flash drive) to one on of these Fedora systems into the /var/cache/yum/i386/12/updates (or /var/cache/yum/updates for older versions).
3- Run "yum -C check-update" (-C so it will not try to update and will use the local files). (I am having a problem at this step and I get this message "no such table: packages", the solution that i found on the internet suggested cleaning the cache which is not what i want to do!).
4- After getting the list of needed files I will parse the primary.xml.gz file and grab the actual file names then append the base URL to them and save it into a file.
5- take that file to the online machine and run wget to grab all needed patches.
6- Take the files back to the system and put them in (i think /var/cache/yum/i386/12/updates/packages/) and run "yum -C update" However, now i am having a problem with step 3 and also not sure if step 6 is correct.
So does any of you guys know how to solve this, or if there is a better or easier way to do this??* Keep in mind that those machines are not allowed to connect to the internet or even connect to another machine that is connected, but we still need to patch them and keep them secure.
I have a crash that occurred after first install while updating. The update was 1.2GB Had to reboot 5 times to complete the update downloading process. Much of what I read suggests KDE, xorg and qemu as part of what is causing the crash, but I haven't found a similar issue. After the update completed installation the crashes were less severe but still occur when updating.
Code: yum update The latest crash occurred after yum update and left a large amount of information in konsole. It disables wireless networking so not sure how the bug is related. During the first yum update I had to reboot the system to get full functionality back. After the first update I just had to wait for system to return to normal.

I have downloaded all packages and prepared to update my laptop (Lenovo 3000 N200, F10 x86_64) from F10 to F13 via preupgrade. Everything works fine, until I reboot and go into the upgrade process.
The problem is at the screen which configs NetworkManager. It shows only two interfaces, eth0 and wlan0, but I use a 3G dongle to connect to the internet. I tried feeding random values for the fields, but it does not allow to go beyond without configuring NetworkManager first.
can I work around the upgrade process without configuring NetworkManager? ie. can I do that manually after installing the upgrade?
