View 2 RepliesI have successfully installed ns-2.29 on ubuntu and even patched in mannasim. the "make file" of ns2 is sucessful as well. The problem arises, whenever i try to run a tcl file.. eg: example1.tcl it gives an error regarding nam. I have installed nam-1.11 and configured it too. It is however unable to open the graphical window. Moreover, no trace files are created, nor any output is found in "nam.out"

I dislike dependency ridden applications or applications that do something useful designed for a specific window manager. So I am starting a thread specifically for requests for applications in Gnome and KDE that aren't immediately available in XFCE, Fluxbox,Blackbox, IceWM, LXDE etc. For instance, I am personally creating a graphical sudo application for the lesser window managers. What other applications would you like to see? this is NOT a request for applications for Linux is general, ONLY ones already available in Linux.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI temporarily placed a Back in Time backup into the root partition, by running it as root. However, I couldn't get it back out on the Desktop, so I opened a terminal window and ran 'sudo nautilus', which I now know should be avoided. I couldn't bring up "Properties" of the root folder, but I was able to open it and see the backintime folders. I then clicked on root, which was in the toolbar row "< root backintime" and was able to get full access to properties. I flipped folder access to "create and delete files" for Otherter disconnecting from the network, and moved the folder to the Desktop. So, is this correct or is it inconsistent that I could open root from the toolbar and not from the folder listing when opening 'filesystem'?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Linux mail server (Fedora). This server was set up long before i joined this organization. Now I have these issues I would request assistance:
1. I am not able to access the Graphical User Interface(gui) on this machine. Startx does not work. I have also tried using combination keys alt+ctrl+f...keys but no progress. As a result am not bale to do some tasks.
2. The clamav that is on the machine has since become outdated. Efforts to update it to latest versions have failed. How do i get to update clamav and protect my system?
3. Because of not being able to access the gui as well as the inability to update clamav have led to my server apparently sending spam mail which in turn have led to my public ip being black listed in a number of sites. Now how can i secure this server so that it stops sending the spam mail and hence avoid future blacklisting?(NB am using postfix and the server sits behind a router which connects to the Internet)
4. I have observed that the server has some iptables rules set but everytime the server restarts the rules stop. I have to manually restart them again to run. How do I sort this?
My x window system just crashed . i can only log in through a non graphical interface. i logged in through root and was configuring my network settings . when again started my laptop after 2 hours it is giving me this problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy system boots, I login and am brought to my desktop. I click on the file system icon in the launcher to open a Nautilus window. The window opens, but is unresponsive (i.e., I can't move it, clicking on the icons does nothing, etc.). If I press the super key to get the dash and the press escape, the window becomes responsive again, just like normal.
If I open a folder in the window, the window becomes halfway unresponsive in that I can't move the window, but I can select more folders and toolbar icons. The top menu no longer appears at this point, and I can't access any of the system icons on the top right of the screen. Alt-F4 closes the window even if the close button doesn't work.As another example, suppose I open a Nautilus window and then a Chromium window. Both are immediately unresponsive. If I super-esc again, I can move the Chromium window around, and it seems to work normally. I can click on the Nautilus window, but it always stays greyed out. Even if I'm clicking on things in it, the Chromium window always has focus.
I had a similar experience to this with VLC and Chromium. After clicking around enough I eventually got it to the point where VLC apparently always had focus, but I couldn't access any of VLC's controls. Double clicking anywhere on the screen fullscreened the video, and that's all I could really do. Not even escape worked to bring it back.I can usually press super to get the dash and Alt-F2 to get a command prompt. Also Alt-Shift-T seems to usually work to bring up a working Terminal (at least one that accepts commands, even if I can't move the window).Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The behavior is highly unpredictable and extremely frustrating. I should note that key commands don't always work, even though they seem to in my examples. So I don't think it's just a mouse issue.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora Linux 13 64bit system. I use System Monitor to check which process is taking how much memory and cpu. Normally I have dozens of Chrome and Firefox windows open. The Processes tab shows which process is taking how much cpu/ram resources but I unfortunately there is no option like right click and make the window active that matches the PID (the one process that I have currently highlighted). Usually there is a chrome process taking up 30 or 40 percent of CPU while dozens other chrome processes taking much less cpu. I must determine which chrome window ( or any application which has multiple instances running) is taking that much CPU time. So can some one help me to solve this problem?

If possible I'd like to prevent any "user-action" if the server was rebooted so
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a web server that hosts multiple websites. Am looking for an application that can be run on my workstation and makes it possible to watch Apache logs live.
It should have a tabbed interface. When I launch the application, it has to connect to my server and should automatically open all access.log and error.log files and display all changes in real time (similar to tail -f command).
Does anything like this exist?
I'm tired of logging in many times in Konsole and executing tail -f commands to see parallel logs.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow does one access a Virtual Box installed Fedora system? I'd like to be able to ssh into this system (locally) but I've no idea how to do this. There is an ip address of 10.0.2.15. Ping doesn't work (ping 10.0.2.15). Should I just go ahead and assign a 192. address to this box before I go any further? It would seem that at this point the system isn't actually a part of my local network and I don't imagine it would be unless it has a 192 address.

I installed Fedora 11 on an external usb HDD (StoreJet trascend) connected to my Acer AspireOne (110 L), and it has been working marvelous for over a month. Today, something really strange happened: After I choose the booting media (StoreJet trascend) Fedora 11 freezes on the loggin screen: Both, keyboard and mouse, stop working. I have no idea what services are shoot down or not recognized since the start screen starts with the blue and fedora logo one.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis probably isn't the best way to go about this, but I am pretty nooby. I took the hard drive with Ubuntu install and made it the second SATA drive, and then put a new SATA drive in as the first and installed Fedora on it.Now I want to access my files from the Ubuntu drive and put them on the new drive but when I try to access it, I can look at some files but the majority of them (like my music and a lot of my documents) it says that I don't have permission. Is there some way I can get to these files? I tried searching but I couldn't find anything relevant
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am coming from Windows XP Pro, on the same machine (and where I am writing this post from) so the internet clearly works on XP. On F13, the eth0 connection is activated and the drivers for the NIC chip were installed with the OS. The NIC is Intel Pro/100 VE. The problem that occurs is that the system updater (in GNOME) can access the internet, and installed a bunch of updates after installing the OS. I know it can get to the internet because the updates worked and in the System Monitor, I can see both uploading and downloading occurring during the updates. Now the problem is that when I open FF, I can't seem to get to pages, and I get the usual FF error (pic -- [URL]). However, I CAN get to [URL] as well as [URL] , but I cannot access several other subdomains on fedoraproject.org . I also cannot get to any other page online, ([URL] for example).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI used to know how to access and rw other linux drives and do the fstab magic. For some reason I've lost my touch. I just want the drive to automount and have full access. I don't need a beginners tutorial on mkdir and fdisk -l. Is there a foolproof way to get my drives to do what I want? I dual boot fedora and ubuntu, but have the same issues on both.

I'm not a Linux noob, but I am far from guru. I'm running a single board computer with a slightly customized Debian Etch (customized by the SBC vendor). No Gnome/KDE/X installed. My application is a control application which uses SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) to paint some basic graphics on the VGA. I need to run it as root because the application calls iopl() to access an IO port.If I run my application manually from the command line, life is sweet. From Googling around, I found http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/28, and hence I:1) Created a script in /etc/init.d2) Executed "update-rc.d scriptName defaults" to link the script into the boot sequenceAll very straightforward. My application starts at boot. But when I try to SSH/SFTP into the SBC, I get "Connection refused". So I can't manage the SBC anymore, and this is a big problem. I am not sure if it's relevant, but my application starts before the SSH daemon. My script looked like:
case "$1" in
start)
echo "Starting my application"

Lately I noticed that something seems to be blocking various audio controls - mixer mostly. I can't access mixer window from taskbar, my keyboard volume knob doesn't work, mute too. But - all the generated events are there, because when the problem goes away (usually in the range of 10-30 seconds), all the events that I generated (volume up/down, mute) are applied.
Straced kmix startup. And it looks like it was waitinf for some information from dbus - i see it sent and received some messages to fd=3 (which is earlier connected to /tmp/dbus-something), and then it waits 21 seconds!, and then it gets new message from dbus, message looks like:
[Code]...
It contains string "introspection" - no idea what it is about, but perhaps it could be related? I am very willing to do additional tests/straces/whatever to solve the problem,
I can see the workgroup of Windows Network from Ubuntu, but when i put the username and password of Windows 7 from Ubuntu it doesn't get any access to the shared folders. I don't know where the problem is for not getting the username and password accepted or authorization.
I even tried turning off the password requirement in Windows 7, but no luck.
My Documents are shared on Windows 7
Something must be missing cuz I can see the Windows 7 computer on Ubuntu but the login fails all the time.
