Red Hat / Fedora :: SSH With ADS Authentication?

Nov 16, 2010

Here is the scenario that Im facing.I have setup a RHEL5 machine with smb, winbind and krb with ads as the security model. Joined the RHEL machine to the domain.Im able to see users on the active directory and also able to log-in using SSH which automatically creates a home directory for me (using oddjobd). Two things that Im trying to achieve are:1.Only users from a certain group on the AD should be allowed to ssh into the RHEL machine.2.Once they ssh in, they should not be able to go to any other directory other than their

Security :: Make A Choice On What Authentication Protocol To Use For Authentication And Authorization?

Jan 17, 2011

I need to make a choice on what authentication protocol I want to use for Authentication and Authorization. I was looking at Radius and then literature suggested that Diameter was a better protocol. Keep in mind I need this on a hetrogeneous setup ( linux & windows together). Diameter seemed like a good fit until I discovered that the open source code no longer seems to be maintained ( C/C++).

I was also looking at Kerberos as an option though there is alot overhead with the server. SSL/TLS or EAP? I am looking for simple but secure and am new at the security protocols.

I just installed the new Fedora 11 and have used earlier versions in the past a few times before. I am trying to figure out if there is anyway to automatically allow root access to everything once an administrator logs in as admin. I am extremely tired of having to type in my password EVERY single time I want to do something. Especially having to use the terminal for something as simple as copying a file from one directory to another.

Fedora :: Can't Get LDAP Authentication Working On 13?

Jun 29, 2010

I'm trying to get LDAP working with 389 Directory Server on Fedora 13. I have the server all ready to go, and I can query it with the 389 console. But when I tried to move on to the next step, user authentication trough LDAP, it just won't work I followed the PAM Howto, but the given authconfig command doesn't work. If I manually add a user with the 389 console, I can't login with it.Since I had X11 forwarding working over SSH, I tried authconfig-gtk. I setup a SSL LDAP connection for this to work, but it still didn't work. I did have this working on my (now crashed ) Fedora 12 VM.

Fedora Security :: Ssh Authentication Slow From Remote?

Aug 17, 2010

My server is connected to the Internet for ssh on port 22 with root logon disabled, a single non-dictionary word user name allowed, and pki authentication only (about as secure as I can make it). I've previously run fc5 and 9 servers using the same sshd config since 2006 and had no security troubles, so I'm happy, but.. After the fc13 install and configuration, logins from a host on a remote network are taking about 1m 30s to complete! A (partial) console output for ssh -vv appears below. The lines marked with "**" were the lines after which significant pauses happen. This is fully repeatable.

Code:

Fedora :: Kerberos Authentication Fails At Boot?

Sep 9, 2010

I recently upgraded my video card from a GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8X to a GeForce FX 5500 AGP 8X. After that my 1360x768 monitor was stuck on a 1024x768 resolution. I ran system-config-display and under Hardware tab I changed the monitor setting from "Generic LCD Screen" to "1360x768 LCD Screen" with the acknowledgment that /etc/X11/xorg.conf file was been modified. After reboot the boot process stuck on:tarting kojid: Kerberos authentication failed. Fedora :: Gpk-application Giving An Authentication Error?

Mar 17, 2011

I am trying to learn it, understand it, and maybe even become proficient with it (one day... ). After trying a few different flavors, I settled on Fedora XFCE, and installed v14 (i686) in a dual boot setting with Windows. I am running it on an HP laptop.I have had an issue ever since I installed a rather large list of updates a few days ago. One of which was a Linux kernel update to 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686 (not really sure if that is significant, but I noticed the issue after selecting this kernel version in the boot menu). Now, anytime I try to add software, or run the update utility I get the error message:Quote:You have failed to provide correct authentication. Please check any passwords or account settings.

More Details:Failed to obtain authentication. There was no dialog to provide my password. I do understand there are alternatives to installing and updating software using yum, and I have been doing that a bit, however I would really like to understand why I am receiving this error. I have seen a few related posts as well as a some similar issues in a bug report, and testing session:bugzilla.redhat.com - 638344General a similar gpk-application issuecannot use Add/Remove software through VNCMy questions are:Is this a bug with one of the updates I downloaded? Is there a way to revert the changes from that update, or do I need to reinstall Fedora? Is this an issue with the User account I created? Is there a general set of options I should enable for myself as the primary user?
