Red Hat / Fedora :: Enterprise 6 - Smartcard Authentication - Cannot Login?
Jun 19, 2010
I just installed Red Hat 6 but when I try to login it prompts me to enter a "Smartcard Authentication" instead of a user name.Does anyone know how to get pass this? and just login with the user name I created or the root? I tried logging using root and a regular user but it always keeps asking me to enter a smart card. Here's a screenshot of the login screen:Code: i901.photobucket.com/albums/ac211/0xGFX007/smart.png

I've got a few laptop for which I'd like to encrypt hard drive with the help of a smartcard.Does one techno (LUKS, true-crypt,) support smart card for getting the secret/passphrase ?
I cannot login as root or su in graphical mode (haven't tested cmd line as i'm still newbie ). What i have read is that this is by default disabled... can this be enabled?.. if so how please? I am running core13 on toshiba laptop (this issue also on "live" cd)if above is not possible have u a section/training pages for us "newbies"
Can't seem to do it, wondering if anyone knows how? Normally there's something in sshd_config that can be switched to true or yes to allow root login but I can't see it in fedora 12.I can login via root at a terminal no problem, just not via ssh, I get access denied every time. Also, I need to login using password authentication.I've done: 227169 but that's just for GUI which I don't really need since I rarely ever log into the GUI.I have also searched through here and mostly only found info such as above, how to enable root login for GUI, or billions of posts about how logingin as root is bad but I cannotswer to my question.DISCLAIMER: Please do not reply to this thread if all you can contribute is the question of why I need root or to put some message telling me I can do everything using su, etc, etc. Please only contribute if you can answer my question. A: My machine and a valid quesiton. B: Spirit of Linux is open, not restrictive
Something has gone awry with my login. After the usual username/password prompt my laptop comes up with smart card authentication & I can't login. How do I get away from the graphical login so I can login & correct the problem?
I have a server x86 architecture and my problem is lost my username & password. Hope anyone can help about this matter as i need to log in to the server for maintenance purpose.
I am trying to use a smartcard with a remote windows computer via the terminal server client. I didn't see any settings in the UI, but I did see a redirectsmartcards property in the conf file. I tried setting it from 0 to 1 but it didn't seem to have any effect (still getting traditional login dialog on remote computer). Does anyone know if this setting is supported or not? I did install pcscd and friends and when I insert the usb smartcard pcscd does show up in /var/log/messages so I think the smartcard is working okay locally.
I'm working on an app that will authenticate user with a smartcard when the user inserts it in the card reader (this is on Red Hat 5.5). How do I detect a card has been inserted? Is there a daemon service I need to listen to and associated api to get notified etc? .
Does anyone know if/how its possible to integrate HOTP authentication into GDM login manager? Basically what I want to do is have it ask for the password of the account, then another prompt come up asking for the code for the account.
I know how to set it up, but I'm know if modifying the PAM module for requiring OATH/HOTP authentication will make this happen or if it will just break the system...and this is one thing I don't want to have to fix.
I have configured a ldap server and trying to login to same ldap server using a ldap user. However, I am not able to login and getting the following in /var/log/secure:
Dec 22 20:06:29 redhat5 sshd[7241]: Invalid user ldapu1 from 192.168.85.1 Dec 22 20:06:31 redhat5 sshd[7242]: input_userauth_request: invalid user ldapu1 Dec 22 20:06:37 redhat5 sshd[7241]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): check pass; user unknown Dec 22 20:06:37 redhat5 sshd[7241]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=192.168.85.1 Dec 22 20:06:37 redhat5 sshd[7241]: pam_succeed_if(sshd:auth): error retrieving information about user ldapu1 Dec 22 20:06:39 redhat5 sshd[7241]: Failed password for invalid user ldapu1 from 192.168.85.1 port 4461 ssh2
I can see that if I use the ldapsearch with same filter, I am not able to locate the user "ldapu1". However, if I change the filter to (|(objectClass=posixAccount)(uid=ldapu1))", it shows me the ldap user: [root@redhat5 ~]# ldapsearch -x -b "ou=Users,dc=homeldap,dc=com" -D "cn=Manager,dc=homeldap,dc=com" -W -H "ldap://127.0.0.1/" "(|(objectClass=posixAccount)(uid=ldapu1))" Enter LDAP Password: # extended LDIF # LDAPv3 # base <ou=Users,dc=homeldap,dc=com> with scope subtree # filter: (|(objectClass=posixAccount)(uid=ldapu1)) # requesting: ALL
Where I have made a mistake? - Is it necessary to create an account on Linux box and then migrate it to ldap? - I was just wondering if I can somehow change the default filter from AND to OR at the time of login. I used "pam_filter |objectClass=inetOrgPerson" in ldap.conf. However, it didn't change the filter.
the laptop of my friend runs ubuntu through wubi. The system suddenly freezed and she restarted it manually. After doing a check disk and automatically repaired some packages(unfortunately she doesn't remember what exactly, only just inode information appeared), she can't log in as when she types her username and password the answer is authentication failed. We tried to change the password through recovery mode but nothing happened.
1. Do you have something to propose to solve the login problem? 2. If not how can i access and back up her ubuntu documents through windows?
I'm looking for an solution to get an automatic authentication and login to my FON hotspot. I did some search on this but I can't find an solution on this. Is there a way to get it work? I'm running on Ubuntu 10.04.
I keep getting the above message when trying to login to my server using a private key,is there something I am missing from the configs here?Quote:
#$OpenBSD: sshd_config,v 1.73 2005/12/06 22:38:28 reyk Exp $ # This is the sshd server system-wide configuration file. See # sshd_config(5) for more information.
When I'm trying to login to the ftp server with appropriate username and password its taking almost 10-15 seconds to authenticate making the login process slow, even when I'm uploading files its again hanging for 10-15 seconds before completing the job successfully. Its not like its happening every time, but 7 times out of 10. Any idea how can make the authentication fast?
Earlier today I was setting up ssh on a new computer. I modified permissions on the Passwd folder to complete the setup. I few hours later when I went to sudo something in the terminal I received the notice of an incorrect password (after using sudo prior to this), even though it was typed correctly.
I tried to restart the computer to solve the issue, but was met with an Authentication Failed message, regardless of the user I tried to log in with. I was hoping I could log in with recovery mode but was unable to do that as well. I have searched a substantial amount and have not found a solution. Could this be an issue with permissions on either the Passwd or Shadow folder? If so, could these be changed if I ran a Live CD?
Now i will try to explain my problem.I just installed fresh 11.04 openSuSe 64bit.After doing all the configuration I rebooted and tried to login.Nothing happened.Googled some things, tried ctrl alt f1 and login as root, also tried to login as root, even changed my root password to be sure.Still, nothing happens, except for the thing that everytime I try to login as root it says authentication failed, but if i type my password bad it says bad password.
I was having a problem with the keyring asking me for a password after I changed my user password. I googled it and found that since the password changed, I will get asked for the keyring password until I delete ~/.gnome2/keyrings/login.keyring. What happened was that I wasn't paying attention that you had to generate a new keyring password before rebooting.
Now, whenever I try to login via gdm, I get this message: error initiating conversation with authentication system - general failure
How do I get it working again? I can still login from the terminal.
I have just installed Fedora12, i worked all time with Red Hat Enterprise, so i wanted to set the default Red Hat theme(clearlooks) on Fedora. However i can't find the clearlooks icons in the themes, how can i set them?
I have two machines on the same network. I want to share files from my Red Hat server to my Fedora 11 box. I want to know what is the easiest, most secure way of doing so. My machines are on a public wire (not an issue really as I don't have sensitive stuff on there), however I'd like to learn how to secure the server, but yet still get access from my Fedora box. Anyone provide me with a guide or help on which protocol (SSH, Samba? NFS) to use?
I wanted to install the latest version of the Revolution Enterprise R 4.0 software on Linux, however the company only supports the produce on Windows and Red Hat(CentOS). Since I don't want to stay on Windows and CentOS is too locked down, I was wondering if I could install the Red Hat version of the RPM on Fedora? I am not sure if there are any particular issues associated with installing Red Hat RPMs on Fedora with respect to compatibility.
The company said that they do not support Revolution Enterprise on Fedora yet and have not tested it. Since the software is proprietary--I can get it under a free academic license--I cannot compile it from source. I tried to install the software in a Fedora VM, but it seemed to quit in the middle. But that might have been just my lack of Fedora experience more than a software issue.
I have a problem with OpenSC while trying to use cardreader OMNIKEY CardMan 6121.I've installed drivers from manufacturer website (ifdokccid_lnx_x64-3.5.1.tar.gz).After that I run opensc-tool and everything seems to be OK.But pkcs11-tool gives me a "Segmentation fault" error. Firefox crashes immediately when I insert cardreader into USB. I've installed OpenSC PKCS#11 Module (/usr/lib64/onepi-opensc-pkcs11.so) on my Firefox.
I tried to debug using "pcscd -fd" and I saw that pcscd uses right drivers "ifdokccid".All this works fine for 6 months on openSUSE 11.2 x64 and it stopped working when I made clean install of openSUSE 11.3 x64.
