You may or may not of heard of this project. But I have made an RPM to install this software. This software was developed by Rohan Anil and his project is on [URL]..This will install the module and try (still a few bugs here) and set up GDM.(Removed from FC12 onward in case program stops working) You can find it here.[URL]...Or you can set up my repo with this[URL]..and install using. yum install pam-face-authentication-gdm or using add remove software utility.Setup notes:
Make sure you run qt-facetrainer to set up your face. If you can not see the camera window on login you may need to set SELinux to permissive.
Check /etc/pam.d/gdm-password
Make sure that ..
auth sufficient/lib/security/pam_face_authentication.soenableX
is before
auth substack password-auth
To set up su to use pam-face-authentication add at the top .

I was on version 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.x86_64 and it asked me to update so I did. When I restarted I chose this version to install and after a brief loading screen it goes to a black screen with a cursor prompt and pretty much stays there. So I go back to 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.x86_64 which boots up just fine. But after a while I get some updates that won't install because it says that Packages are not compatible:Install - Linux Kernal 2.6.30.5-43.fc11(x86_64)

Fedora 11 (64 bit) installation on a clean system hangs at various points. The farthest it's gotten is just over half of the 1035 packages tagged for installation (cd 2 of 6 was the last prompted). At that point, the screen goes black except for a blinking cursor in the upper left corner. Keyboard is dead (e.g. cap/num lock is unresponsive).
Other attempts have stalled at other spots, such as creating the file system - system became unresponsive, no mouse movement, etc.; or installing brasero-libs when it simply stopped installing, mouse/keybd were OK, CD would not respond or eject.
These situations persist when using basic video mode, along with acpi=off and ide=nodma. Below is a description of the hardware in use.
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Kentsfield Q6700 2.66 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
HDD: 300 GB Seagate IDE ST3300831A as master, single cabled with CD-ROM as slave connected to the sole IDE motherboard port
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS

Before to install FC11 64, I used FC 9 and FC 10 i386 version without any issues.

I have installed last updates about 3 days ago. After this Fedora kernel 2.6.30.9-99.fc11.x86_64 does not start.booting it the last message I see"ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP):wlan0: link is not ready" then it stops. I have to boot with a previous kernel version 2.6.30.9-96.fc11.x86_64.

Today I got update notification. I'm trying to get the "root" user to be included in the list of users that get displayed on the login page.
I found this:[URL]...which seems to indicate that if I add an "Include" line, with the "root" user, that would work. I found the /etc/gdm/custom.conf file, which was empty except for the section header lines, so I added an "Include=root" line, but even after rebooting I just get the regular users, and have to login by typing the "root" username, etc.
So, I was wondering, is there a way to get this to work? P.S. I understand about not wanting to allow root logins, but I need to do this in my situation.

Attempting to compile an application that is not located in any of the repos yet for 11.3 64 bit. I have downloaded the appropriate src and untarred it. However, when I attempt to run the ./configure command here is the error I receive. checking build system type... I have made sure that I have all kernel-headers packages installed and am unsure as how to proceed. I tried using the command "./configure --build=x86_64" and then receive an error stating that the "SYSTEM IS NOT SUPPORTED" and continued errors stating that gcc is not installed, eve though it is.

I have a NFS mounted home dir, so i couldn't use .face for the users in the gdm Face Browser. In older Ubuntu versions I would have just put the images in /usr/share/pixmaps/faces/ and it worked.
For some reason that doesn't work any more. Can't tell you which was the last version it worked on, but i will try to find out and post later!
right now I use Ubuntu 10.10 with gdm 2.30.5
tried: jpg, png and username without extension also tried: /usr/local/share/pixmaps/faces/ and to configure it in /etc/gdm/custom.conf
couldn't find anything online, regarding the gdm doc for 2.30 it still should work that way!

My friends all request that I join Farmville so they can build their points. I don't play games but tried to oblige them. My firewall went nuts and I received requests to "open" certain ports. Can some one tell me what is going on and is this a security risk or not. I am 4 years deep into Linux and I haven't used microcrap in as many years but I am still learning, as there is so many things to master with Linux.

On fc7-10 I was able to get them going after installing gstreamer packages with yum.
For fc11 I have followed half a dozen guides, installed numerous packages, but can't seem to figure out what is missing.
Anyone know what to install for mp3's on fc11 ?

i'm working on a project, and I need a Software that's capable of recognizing face in real-time (I'll try to explain this, since my English is not that good) By this I mean that while my webcam is on (Not recording, I want it to be like a Videochat, where the recorded Images don't save on the HDD) it can recognize faces. I'm not that good on Linux, but I believe it's the best OS for the project I'm working on, since it's much more free than Microsoft.

I upgraded from fc10; there was a residue of four fc10 2.27 kernels in /lib/modules from my fc10->fc11 upgrade; I moved them to a new subdirectory /usr/oldmodules, but the yum update command still produces the same failure message.

its been a long time since i was last on here, (2006)
I am trying to compile ffmpeg (and libraries) but im stuck. I am running x86_64 FC11 and want to compile 32 bit binaries so i can post them online for people to download, and mine is different then the ones hosted by the yum repo's.

it's possible to use preupgrade to go directly from FC8 to FC11.
Also, I'm wondering if this will allow me to avoid formatting my hard drive or not. I'll have backups ready just in case, but was hoping maybe I could get away with not having to do the old two-step shuffle with all my data.

My F11 only works at the kernel 2.6.30.8-64.fc11.i586.
I have other two kernel installed, 2.6.30.9-96.fc11.i586 andn 2.6.30.9-90.fc11.i586.
But my fc11 cannot work with them.
So every time I start the system, I need to press tab key and choose the lower version kernel.

I had FC 6 and FC8 installed on a laptop, and all my video players (xime, vlc, mplayer) worked perfect. However I installed FC11 and the video freezes for few seconds while the sound is working o.k. then the video starts moving faster to synchronize the sound. In the last couple of weeks I was trying to work thru some issues regarding access from my FC11 box to my WinXP box over the local network (Have had no problem using Samba to go the other way). I was trying to use smb4k and couldn't seem to make it work. Maybe that's because I use Gnome as my desktop (tho, I would guess that the install of smb4k would include necessary dependencies for KDE).I went back to this problem today and figured out how to access the window shares using Gnome Connect to Server function (Have tried it in the past but must have been doing something wrong). I now get the icon on my desktop and the appropriate listing in the Place menu.
What I notice is when I click on the icon (or select the share listing on the Place menu) to open the "folder" I get a duplicate of the icon on my desktop and duplicate listing on the Place menu. The window opens with access to the folder without any problem. If I close the window, it does so just fine, but I'm left with the duplicate icon and menu listing. To get rid of these "extraneous" items, I need to unmount the volume. Then the extra icon and Place menu listing are gone. If I already have opened the window and incurred a duplicate icon, etal., even if I close and then open it again, no more duplicates are added.Is this normal or is there a setting I need to change to keep this duplicate from happening.

After automatically updating the eclipse packages, the C/C++ perspective disappeared.There is no way of retrieving *.c files except in the general text editor.Also the make panel disappeared.
PS: This once happened too for FC10, but then I could retrieve C/C++ from an older installation.
