Red Hat / Fedora :: Install PHP Application On Centos

I am trying to install a php code application on a Apache web server on a local host 192.IP address on a Centos Linux box.I logged in as root and the application is located on a folder call php on the Desktop and it has several files and folders like upload, include, settings etc.The requirments for the php code are mysqld php5 and httpd and they are all configured and running.I have to install this php code using a browser like firefox.Does anyone know how to do it? I want to be able to open the firefox, type in the address bar and alternatly go to the installation process. When I type localhost, 192. This page is used to test the proper operation of the Apache HTTP server after it has been installed. If you can read this page it means that the Apache HTTP server installed at this site is working properly.

Use python as example, I have 64bit python 2.4.3 yet I can't found rpm for 32bit one so I try to build it.Use default make or make --enable-readline is ok, python make cannot use CFLAGS, can use OPT and LDFLAGS to add -m32, yetit seems can only search for 64bit lib, or else crush.[Moderator edit: Moved from CentOS-4 to CentOS-5 forum.]

I would like to get the predefined application icon to open the same file types.
for instance: *.avi, *.mp3 to have the VLC icon
and other application to have the icon of their default application.
So far I only found tips to install single icons or to add icon packs. :S
and is there any way to when you install an application make it default for such file types ?

My web server has Centos 5.3 installed and uses webmin for the administration.Recently the login hangs on a black background with the mouse animation.After a long time I get the message "The greeter application appears to be crashing. Attempting to use a different one."I click OK and the message just repeats.
The web server is running fine and all the applications are still active.I can access the server via SSH.Also, I can login via my vncserver from another computer and access the gnome and kde interfaces.

I have a fresh install of Cent OS 5.4 and am having a problem with Openoffice application not starting up, word processor, spreadsheet, etc. none of them start.
When I try to open word processor, It just loads for a bit says "starting word processor", then closes.
I uninstalled and reinstalled through add/remove software tool and that didn't help. I read somewhere that selinux causes problems with it so I disabled selinux, restarted, and that didn't change anything.

I am fairly new to linux.We have a machine running CentOS 4.4 and sometimes the machine has to be rebooted. Each time after the reboot, I have to SSH in and manually restart one of our application. I have been reading about doing this online and I am a little confuse.Seems like there are multiple possibilities for starting things up. My finding suggest using the inittab file. Then my question is what runlevel do I pass in? Should I use runlevel 1, 2, 3, or 5? Once the runlevel is determine, then how should I name my startup script? I know to use "S" but what number should I give it? Or, another way to approach this is to put my autostart script in the /etc/rc.local file?

I am facing the following issue. My application runs perfectly in red hat linux(32bit, 64bit physical m/c and 32 bit vmWare m/c) and in one version of centOS(32bit physical m/c - don't remember the version:Sorry). However when I am running the same application in CentOS 5.4 (64bit version) I face the following issues -
a. the application gets stuck in the conditional wait even though the signal is sent after the application has moved to conditional wait. b. vsftpd service start fails from within the application even though the service starts and stops peroperly from console.

I have written simple application in CPP which listens on port 8080. But when I start the application and check the port it is listening on (using netstat -nap), I can see that the application is listening on port which is > 30000.
This port number keeps on changing if I re-run the application.
if I have to do any kind of a seeting so that application starts listening on 8080 port.
I am using CentOS 5.5 (I tried same on CentOs 5.2)

Centos 5.6 - I'm trying to lock the screen immediately after successful gnome user login. My steps...
System > Preferences > More Preferences > Sessions > Startup Programs tab > Add
I've tried the following...
gnome-screensaver-command --lock
/usr/bin/gnome-screensaver-command --lock
Neither of these seem to work from the Sessions gui. Although from terminal I can run gnome-screensaver-command --lock with no problems.
