View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using kubuntu from time to time, and one thing that i love was the option to install/uninstall as if it was another common windows application. A few days ago, i downloaded the 10.10 release, and after i executed wubi, i just get 2 option: Full demo and install and learn more So, am I doing something wrong? BTW, i also run wubi with an ISO next to it, but it shows the same window. So, is there a way to install kubuntu as a windows appa again? I've tried google, but everything seems to point that that feature still exists, but i cant find it.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am driving Fedora 12 and need to test an application GUI with Python 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6. Python2.6 is native in F12 at /usr/lib... and I have alt-installed 2.4 and 2.5 at /usr/local/lib... Site-packages directories for 2.4 and 2.5 are empty. I have tried different tricks to install gtk-2.0 and pygtk in the site-packages of 2.4 and 2.5. But could not find a working solution.
My latest trial was to download Fedora 7 live and copy from its python2.5 gtk-2.0 and pygtk.* to F12:/usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages. Results were as follows:
Python 2.5.5 (r255:77872, May 13 2010, 17:15:51)
[GCC 4.4.3 20100127 (Red Hat 4.4.3-4)] on linux2

I would like to get the predefined application icon to open the same file types.
for instance: *.avi, *.mp3 to have the VLC icon
and other application to have the icon of their default application.
So far I only found tips to install single icons or to add icon packs. :S
and is there any way to when you install an application make it default for such file types ?
on Suse linux 11.2 while trying to install sun webserver 7 I was unable to install it in graphical mode, is the any package that needs to be installed in order to do that
View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to version 11.4 and now I can not install any application. Not YAST or zypper downloaded RPMs.Firefox and Konqueror can not download links that are rpm. I do not understand what happens. Ties other than rpm, if fully discharged. I tried as root and nothing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedNew to Fedora (from Windows), I am up and running ok with packages from the repository but only half ok with Processing, the Java graphics programming front end from processing.org.Their download gave me a .tgz file which Package Manager extracted for me into a location of my choice and where there is now a "processing" shell script.This works ok and I have managed to create a launcher on the desktop. That starts ok but always with processing's default action of giving you a new and automatically named work file.In Windows an existing Processing file (.pde file) could be "opened-with" Processing. Trying to do similar in Fedora I find that I am expected to nominate an Application to open with but Processing has not installed as an application.I guess the question is how do I promote Processing to be an Application?Or is there a different approach?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Fedora 12 i386 using CD#1 for a minimal install. For that during installation I selected only Base. For some reason when I started installation it was trying to install 432 packages (Base has got about 80 or so packages). i can understand there might be some dependencies, but really that much? I kept going with the installation of 432 packages, but it finally failed on gtk2-immodule-xim-2.18.3-19.fc12.i686.rpm.I need just minimal install, so I can install LXDE later on by myself.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm new to ubuntu, and also new to linux.
so basically i have many many questions to ask.
so i describe myself as a new human being in this linux world.
today i found out when i download an application, it comes in "tar.gz" format,
so i searched for solution, and the only answer i get is to go to the package manager and download the package. well... that is not a relevant answer.
then i went to try out the firefox, so i found out that the firefox was out-of-date, it was only v3.5 , i went to help> and where is the check for update option, i was like huh!? where is that button? so i googled it and found out the update website, then i downloaded the file, before i open it, i saw "tar.gz" o.o!!??
nevermind, i plug in my pendrive to play some music, then the movie player came out and gave me an error message that i have to download some files to play this mp3 format. ok, i guess a 600mb operating installer doesn't comes with everything, and i clicked download.
dang! error! could not locate the file ..
ok, i switched back to windows, went to videos to search for solution on how to install tar.gz files. the video showed me, first you extract the file to anywhere, then you open the file, then you *blah blah blah* the terminal, type this command xyzabc^#*
so, my main question is how to install an application downloaded from a website?
don't tell me it's package manager because there are many things i can't download there.
I have downloaded Fedora 11 1ive CD and installed it successfully in my PC. I also have downloaded Fedora-11-i386-DVD.iso into my hard disk. I want to mount DVD iso and install applications from DVD iso by using yum install, I do not want to download through fedora mirrors. I do the following steps:
Code:
$yum install createrepo
$mkdir -p /mnt/iso/{1,2,3}
$mount -o loop /path/to/Fedora-11.DVD.iso /mnt/iso/1
$cd /mnt/iso
$createrep .
After these commands, I can see the system read more than 2000 packages one by one in my PC. Then I use the following command,
Code:
$yum clean all
vi /etc/yum.repos.d/iso.repo
the contents of iso.repo are as follows,
Code:
[My ISO repository]
name=ISO
baseurl=file:///mnt/iso
enabled=1
After these, I use $yum install xfig
The systems said, "Bad id, byte=2"
yum still uses internet to install the applications?
application to monitor application wise network usage?
