May 26, 2011I want to be able to open a file (support for .mp3 and .ogg a must) and add effects, change pitch and tempo, add beats (either default or midi created), mix with other songs (or clips from), be able to change levels of the high/mid/low, alter gain and frequencies ... all that fun stuff.
programs I already have are:
MixXx
LMMS (Linux MuliMedia Studio)
mhWavedit

gAlan
And it doesn't seem that any of those have the features I am looking for. I am running Zorin OS 4 (ubuntu 11.04 based) and Dreamlinux 3.5 (debian- unsure which release) on a fujitsu lifebook 5 series - S6240 (it's kinda old 2005).

Jun 14, 2011create documentation with screenshots that have stuff on them indicated with arrows, circles, highlighted areas and the likes. I attemped to use the Gimp for this, but found out the app is clrealy not intended for such use. Then I tried LibreOffice draw, but it seems page-orientated, saving a whole bunch of whitespace I don't want after I imported an image and put stuff on top of it. A few quick searches did not yield anything looking very promising. So I'm looking for image editing apps in which doing these kind of simple operations is trivial, or even apps geared towards such tasks.

Jun 22, 2011I do a lot of 3D modeling in blender and I would like a program for creating textures for my models. I have used gimp, and it does the job, but it just does not quite fit for me. I do not need anything too fancy. The things that I am looking for in a program are mainly as follows:Layers Image rotation Paint Fill and brush (add on brushes would be nice) Support for png and tiff Levels, curves, hue and saturation.
In short I would like a free (open source is preferred) alternative to something like pixelmater. I can use a cloud based alternative but I really would rather use a stand alone program as I do not always have internet connection. Does such a program exist? What would you use?

Jul 25, 2011i have to upload a signature image(in jpeg format) to fill a recruitment form which says file-size must be of between 10-20 kb......i have scanned image which is of 9.5 kb.....tried to edit in shotwell photo manager....tried some random things in Adjust and crop menu but my little changes didn't work, it always shortened the file size......as i don't know anything about Image editing can someone tell me how can i increase the file size (>=10kb) i also tried gnome-screenshot to take the screenshot of the image, but it also saved the new image smaller than 10kb....

Aug 3, 2011I have all multimedia packages installed as the instructions of opensuse site (ffmpeg, libdvdcss, ...) and plus some others not mentioned there (gstreamer, libav ...).Recently I was watching a dvd in kaffeine but several times the video and audio had small stops of about one or half second. It even came to the point of skipping a bit of the video. I tried vlc and the same thing happenned up to a point where the video froze at all. Also in other dvd's, when I tried to watch the content of a menu option vlc skipped the first few second of that scene before playing it. I tried smplayer and the exhibition of video was perfect except by the fact that it don't recognize dvd menus and subtitles. All mplayer gui's don't recognize them.So what player available for opensuse is able to recognize menus, subtitles and at the same time play dvd movies without other problems?

Jan 10, 2011I am writing an Air application and I would like to have the app use the font indicated in Appearance Preferences.

I do not have Gtk::Settings and I have looked in ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/ but I do not have an interface folder and none of the others I opened have any font details.
I have tried simply not setting a font within my application but it is using a font not specified in the Appearance Preferences at all. It looks like Times.
Ideally I would like to be able to get this information from Ubuntu using a native process :

get the font name of the Application font or would I have to write a script and call that from inside Air?
I have a default installation of Ubuntu 10.4 with Unity running on top of Gnome. (I think this is correct. I certainly can get Nautilus running quite easily and as I mentioned earlier I have ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/ folders).
The brief is to get the application working on the default installation so I cannot install anything but the target machine I am using has got 'gconftool'.

Apr 23, 2010I am trying to find an application with low dependencies ( not okular ) that i can use to book mark my pdf's and ebook's. I am reading tutorials and its driving me nuts not being able to book mark my position or key topics. It would be nice to have something to manage all my books. I am currently using evince and its ok. As stated above I need to make things more...well..readable. I currently use gnome. I dont want to switch to kde. Okular worked well in the past; however, once all the requirements are met its almost kde.

Do I have to do some trickery to change the .iso image to a .raw?

Does anyone know of a Linux equivalent of MSN which allows video and audio communication. I have tried Kopete, although the call feature button is inactive, despite having setup my webcam in this program.
I have also tried installing a program called qnext, though webcam and audio support between alternate different Instant Messengers (IM's) are not supported.

Nov 22, 2010I need to be able to open an openGL based piece of software remotely (like Maya or 3D Studio Max, for example). The server will be a linux machine (CentOS, currently, fwiw), but the client should be able to run on at least Linux and Windows. This will happen over the internet as opposed to over a LAN.
So far, I've tried
- "NoMachine NX" which is pretty good, but it seems to have some issues with GL. Maybe this can be fixed in xorg on the server (disabling overlays or something like that)? not sure.
- HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS) which works fairly well with Cent & Windows, though is sometimes a little slow. It also doesn't seem to be happy on Ubuntu, which is a pretty big bummer. It's also a bummer that it's somewhat expensive. That said, it's still the front-runner.
- VNC which was very slow.
It's imperative that it can transmit very complex rendered OpenGL properly. It's ok if it's slow to tumble/refresh, but it should be correct.

Jan 26, 2011Is there a free image stacking application in Linux. I do a lot of macro work and I even use stacking for larger pieces of work as well. It allows me to create a better, larger DOF than you would normally get with a Macro lens, which tends to be shallow. If you have never heard of stacking images it is like stitching images together for a panorama image. Only this works by selecting the sharpest parts of the image. The images are stacked up on top of eachother, the software selects the sharpest parts of each image and the joins them all up making your object hopefully sharper. You need a tripod to do this work.

Most of the software I found either need to use bootable cd or need to unmount my partitions which is I wasn't allowed to since it's a production servers. I also tried dd but it consume too much time, sector by sector cloning and empty disk space also included so the file created also big in size.
