I setup a memcached and want to run this file " /etc/init.d/memcached " when the server boots. I do not know where to add this in order to run at start-up(in which file).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI like to use Tilda in transparent mode. In Karmic I just added tilda to the startup applications and everything worked well. Now in Lucid, it starts up before Compiz and I don't get Compiz transparency. I have to quit Tilda and load it again before I get the transparency right. Is there some way to force tilda to start after Compiz? (I have tested this on several comps. it seems to hold true)

(1) mucking around with /etc/rc2.d/ -- but that seems to be only system-level apps, not user apps; or (2) going to (System - Preferences - Sessions) and mucking around in there -- but I don't seem to have that menu on my system (10.04 LTS running as a guest in vmware player 3.1)I just want vmware-user to run before my gnome-terminals so that the desktop is resized before the terminals run.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter yesterday system update the x server won't start up anymore. It locks immediately with blank screen leaving the computer unresponsible until hard reboot. I hat to once again go with the "vesa" driver, as I mentoined earlier in another thread it is a life saver, always works. My video card is integrated Radeon HD3250 - video driver was fglrx from ATI itself. "radeon" driver now reports that modesetting is not supported and will not load with EE-type X server error.
Anyone else experienced this? Are there any changes in the most recent X server that once again break compatibility with the official ATI driver?
I just installed tomcat server in linux and for shutdown and startup, i have to run the script inside $tomcat/bin folder (startup.sh and shutdown.sh) manually.
I want to add tomcat as service and i want to execute as service commands like /sbin/service tomcat start/stop.
in my text file of 5 columns 2 column is in DDMMYYYY format. (ie DATE OF BIRTH). how to use sort command for its ascending order and descending order.
Is the same can be use for the date format YYYYMMDD ?

If you have a large httpd.conf you need to know this, but amazingly i cant find this documentation anywhere which i find pretty unbelieveable. When I still used windows I would access my department's folder on the web server using the following procedure: (in windows XP) go to the start menu > click 'run' > enter the folder address, I would be prompted for my login and password. The folder, and the whole server in fact, would then be visible in the windows file browser, under the 'networks' icon. I could then navigate to my department's folder and modify the files I need to to update the website.
How do I do this in Opensuse (using Gnome). I tried going to 'network' in nautilus and then 'open location' but no luck. I also tried 'connect to server' in nautilus (in the 'file' menu), but again no luck. which I could stomach if my college provided reliable access to computers on campus, but they don't so I have to use my laptop, which is now windows free . My current job is only going to last for a few more months, so having only so recently got rid of windows I am reluctant to re-install it just for this purpose (which is just about the only reason I currently have for using windows - the other is being able to download audiobooks from the public library, but that's another matter).
I have 4 VMs on a Linux host, call them A, B, C, D running on Z. I really don't care when A and B come up, but I would like to make sure that D comes up before C.I believe that in VMWare 2.x it's possible to change the boot order. Is this possible in 1.x as well? Is this done in /etc/vmware/vm-list? I see that there are a number of VMs listed there, including some that have long since been deleted.

In order to install them, I need to exit the X-server and terminate all OpenGL processes. How do I do that? I've seen many things like 'press ctrl-alt-backspace' and typing 'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop' but none of them work. I'm using Kubuntu 10.10 and gdm doesn't even exist.

It has worked great for email and some net surfing. Now the machine is going to my wife, who does not want have to go to the boot menu to get XP. How do I change the order so that XP boots first and you have to go to the menu to get Fed 11? I've tried going through the forums, but since I'm not really a computer person, there are some basics I don't know (for example "open a terminal" - how does one do that?)

I have reinstalled Fedora 11 i386 four times now. After I install the Nvidia drivers from rpmfusion I start having intermittent problems with no sound at bootup. Null output. I've posted here about this problem but received no responses so this must not be a common problem.
Would it be possible to change the order that the drivers load so the nvidia driver loads after the sound drivers?
In fedora 14, the user order on GNOME login screen is completely different from that in fedora 13. Is there any way to order the users by date of creation ASC, not by name ASC?

In F11, I could configure windows to gain focus when the mouse hovers over them ... it was possible to finetune the response in terms of seconds. I dont find the menu item for this function any more in F12 (System -> Preferences ->?) Which package added that functionality and is there a version for F12? I really miss it
just noticed that the windows are already set to respond that way (by default) only that the title bars don't indicate a change in focus.

I'm new to this community and very new to fedora Linux. I'm learning how to use this OS and am enjoying it immensely thus far, but it's not been an easy road lately with this speaker. See, my netbook has really crappy speakers so I picked up an Insignia USB Soundbar so I could get much better sound out of it. However, it won't recognize the USB and I'm assuming this means it can't download the necessary drivers in order to work. Now I've researched this and came across this forum:[URL]...
