I'm looking for a way to automatically startup Ventrilo when my linuxbox restarts. At the moment I have to manually start it up. I know there is a way and I've tried to follow other threads but I can't seem to find a tutorial on how to do this with the Fedora 12 distro.
View 5 RepliesI know it might seem a stupid question, but i'm gettin' nuts over avoiding webapp auto startup on Tomcat restart.i have a server, used for developing. Its tomcat has a bunch of webapps deployed. MOst of them are old/kept just for the sake of it, and I would like to avoid TC to start them on start / restart. How do I prevent a context to autostart on service start / restart?
I would like to go in the config files and selectively choose the apps to start. When tomcat is started, if anyone needs an app to be started, i would like to do it from the manager. But when I restart TC, i would like my choices to be up and running only.
after installing Debian, I typed the command:

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and I have a 1TB NTFS (internal) hard drive where I put all my files. The drive shows up in the "Places" menu, and if I select & open it, the drive and all the scripts & text files in it work. But, if I go to run the scripts without opening the dive in the places menu first, it just gives an error.
1. What is being done when I select the drive in the places menu?
2. Can this be set up automatically, so I don't have to open the drive every time after I start up?
I would like host a ventrilo server. I followed all the instructions and I get to the part where you type ./ventrilo_srv and I get this:
I don't know what causes the the unable to bind to TCP socket.
I just installed the ventrilo server daemon on CentOS 5.3 and I'm having 2 issues with the init.d script I wrote. Issue 1: the stop command does not work. I suspect due to an issue with where the daemon puts the pid file. Issue 2: chkconfig says that the "service ventrilo does not support chkconfig". The script is below.

I am new to bash so i dont know how to start the Ventrilo Server up.
I navigated to the folder the server is in and did ./ventrilo_srv and ./ventrilo_srv -d and they both come up "No such file or directory".
I am running ubuntu 8.10 on an old gateway as a server. I have vent up and running just fine. I went to configure the ventrilo_srv.ini file and now that I have made the changes, I need to restart the server program, which I am having problems doing. The following command returns the following:
sudo /home/taylor/ventrilo/ventsrv/ventrilo_srv restart

I am trying to setup a ventrilo server. I want it to load the server automatically on system boot so it is running at all times. I have downloaded the server files and can manually start it, but I do not know where/how to make it start automatically.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have updated from 10.2 to 11.1. When 11.1 starts I get into the CLI rather than an automatic startup of KDE. I can login at the CLI, then type "startx" to start KDE. I know there is someway to automatically start KDE when the computer boots, but just can't seem to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction? With 10.2 I was able to automatically load KDE as myself as user and would like to have that again in 11.1.

After reading this thread: Hangs at end of SuSe 11 install I used acpi=off apm=off nolapci as the install options and it worked. My question is, do I need to add those options to the /grub/menu.lst or will the install do that?

I have never had any problems making windows games work in WINE as long as the appDB says they are good to go, but I have had an ongoing problem with Mangler in a few distros.
I have had an on going problem with my system and Mangler. I use a creative usb fatality headset. When I am in Windows it works fine for ventrilo. If I boot into Linux and load up Mangler I can get it to work, but then after a while no one can hear me, but I can hear them and the Mangler icon in the system tray turns yellow instead of green.
I have the audio settings in Mangler set for my USB head set. My head set will consistintly work in Audacity. When I go into the pulse audio settings and set the drop box down to my head set it will show default audio every time I go back into the audio settings. If I reboot then plug in the headset and then reste the drop down to head set it will work. If I open a game or something it will close sometimes other times I think it just takes time. I have had the same propblem on Ubuntu 10.04, Kubuntu 10.10, and openSUSE 11.4.

I am trying to install fedora10 on my desktop with 320gb HDD, Intel Dualcore, Biostar mother board, 1 GB RAM. I installed fedora many times, now my PC is connected to a SAMSUNG B2030 monitor which is of size 20.5 inches. This time, Anaconda is falling back to text mode as it cannot recognize the VGA. Monitor CD is along with me but it didnot contain any linux drivers. (Drivers for xp are installed). What is the solution? Should I switch to the latest fedora13?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter yesterday system update the x server won't start up anymore. It locks immediately with blank screen leaving the computer unresponsible until hard reboot. I hat to once again go with the "vesa" driver, as I mentoined earlier in another thread it is a life saver, always works. My video card is integrated Radeon HD3250 - video driver was fglrx from ATI itself. "radeon" driver now reports that modesetting is not supported and will not load with EE-type X server error.
Anyone else experienced this? Are there any changes in the most recent X server that once again break compatibility with the official ATI driver?
I just installed tomcat server in linux and for shutdown and startup, i have to run the script inside $tomcat/bin folder (startup.sh and shutdown.sh) manually.
I want to add tomcat as service and i want to execute as service commands like /sbin/service tomcat start/stop.

I am using centos 5.5 x85_64 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 The server is hanging at start up due to the follwoing error
udevd[746] nss_ldap reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 4 seconds)
udevd[746] failed to bind to LDAP ser er ldap://192.168.0.100 cant contact ldap
It fails and then tries again, and again, each time increasing the sleep time. This is happening before network sercvices are started so ther is no way it can connect to ldap. anyone know a way to fix this problem?
I wanted to ask how to restart the Debian Server. It should start daily, at 2-3 o'clock in the morning. Don't know how to program the server.

When it does this and completes the disc check it doesn't properly establish network comms and I can't get in using SSH and I can't even ping the server.If I reboot again, it operates as normal but the problem is that the server is remote to me and I need to travel to the site when this occurs.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up a mythTV frontend, so have set up automatic login in GDM, which works perfectly. I've also re-enabled the "kill X server" key combo (ctrl-alt-backspace), as other people here are used to that to restart it if everything goes pear-shaped.
However, the autologin isn't working properly after I kill the X server -- just sits at the login screen, and I have to manually log in.
how to fix that? Essentially, I never want to see the log in screen -- I want it to always log in as my generic MythTV user.
Not sure if it's any help, but here's my /etc/gdm/custom.conf:
