Mar 14, 2009I am using opensuse 11.1.I have installed virtualbox in my machine.The problem is that when i am running it doesn't open.Do you know why it doesn't work?

OpenSUSE :: VirtualBox 4.0.8 Unable To Open VMs?
May 24, 2011However, I do not consider myself a Linux pro - I hardly ever use the command line etc.
I have been using the Free personal version of VirtualBox for about 3 or 4 years and have had no problems in any version of OpenSuse (at least none that were not easily fixed). I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.4 several weeks ago and cannot get Virtualbox to work. I have tried installing from the opensuse 11.4 package on the VBox site and I have run their generic command line installer and either way I am unable to open my VMs.
When I used their generic installer I got the following errors:

I did a reinstall of OpenSuse for several reasons and it is working great in everyway except I am still having this issue and at this point I am lost as to what to do next.

Sep 22, 2010I have problems to get Virtualbox 3.2.8 under openSuse 11.3 (2.6.34.7-0.2-desktop, x86-64) running. I tried both the VirtualBox-3.2-3.2.8_64453_openSUSE113-1.x86_64 package from Virtualbox and self-compiled drivers as well as the newest RPM packages from openSuse(backports). I mostly get the following error during the vboxdrv load:

However I already tried different combinations of previous kernels and virtualbox versions and the error persists. This is somewhat strange. Sometimes I was able to get proper drivers when reinstalling the whole stuff under failsafe mode a couple of times. But still not cleary reproducable.

Mar 7, 2011Observed on two host systems both with openSUSE 11.3 32 bit using ext4: When a big files, in this case a 1.2 GB and a 1.7 GB is copied from DVD, usb harddrive or shared folder into a Windows 7 32 bit guest system, the copied file is corrupted. The md5sum has changed and until the guest system has been rebooted successive md5sum tests on the same file comes up with various results... After a reboot md5sum tests show consistent results, but a sum different from the original file.

Mar 23, 2011I made a windows 7 virtual machine.But graphics run like crap.I need to install my motherboard's driver on that virtual machine.But since the virtual machine was created from an iso which was sorted into the CD/DVD device as an iso image; whenever I open the CD device from the virtual machine; it runs the win7 installer.So basically I need one of two things:The virtual machine to recognize if I insert a CD on my CD/DVD hardware. Or to record the .iso image from my motherboard's cd (Which I don't know how to do so)And sort it into the CD/DVD zone of the VirtualBox.I need to install it because I can't even play chesstitans on there. It prompts me some window that tells me that I need Direct3D so basically I need to configure my [attached] graphic card which is pretty good it can run pretty well I just need to configure the motherboard's drivers or something
Hope it's my graphics too, but things go too slow when the virtual machine is up. I probably need more ram or configure the virtual machine to use my rams instead of my hard disk, I'm not even sure if it's using the hard disk or not but I guess so cause everything goes really slow in there. Well not slow as fuq but mmm mouse freezes and teleports suddenly a lilbit. Anyways if you lead me to fix my Ram's usage and setting up my motherboard's drivers on this virtual machine i'm pretty sure it's gonna work.I think it's important to say ubuntu is x64 and win7 is x64 actually my processor is a dual core so the architecture supports it but I don't know if i'm actually asking it to go on x128.
CentOS 5 :: Open Port 7001 But It Doesn't Show That Its Open?
Sep 26, 2010Ok For some reason I open my ports in security and firewall. I open ssh and other ports and port 7001 for example but when I go to check to see if they are open or try to connect to them. It shows that they are still closed. I am using - [URL] Also yes my ports are open on my router. I know my router works fine with opening ports because I have shoutcast setup on another computer with xp that is currently running. I am willing to pay for who can ever get this fixed for me...
I open the ports in graphical mode.
Fedora :: Way To Open Windows Partion Via Virtualbox
Jan 18, 2010Currently i have a dual boot on my laptop of fedora and vista. Is there a way that i can use virtualbox to open my windows partion while using fedora? I understand that virtual box makes a "partition" on my fedora partion and runs of that. It would be pretty awesome if i could open my windows partion while using fedora.

So, i've rebuilded all VirtualBox dependencies with safe flags, then i've recompiled most of the sys-* packages also with safe flags. However VirtualBox still doesn't work.

UPD2: 3.1.6 and ose-versions crashes with same errors

Jun 3, 2010I need to set up a little virtual network with Debian Lenny guests (the host is Debian Squeeze, but I don't think it matters). I installed Lenny in a VM and it works fine. Then I cloned the hard drive, garion@Laptop:~$ VBoxManage clonevdi Linux 1.vdi Linux 2.vdi created a new VM with exactly the same settings as the first one and booted the new disc. The problem is that there's no eth0 in the new VM, but it is in the original one. Also if I "unplug" the cable, dmesg won't notice anything. In the original VM it works fine. They both have the same virtual network card: PCnet-FAST III (Am79C973). I've also tried NAT as well as internal network settings.

Mar 23, 2011When I created the disk, I specified dynamically growth, but when I tried to copy a file larger than the available disk space (500MB), a message showed up saying that it couldn't be done.
Image resizing was added with VirtualBox 4.0:

Fedora Networking :: 14 X86_64 Doesn't Autostart Eth0 In VirtualBox 4?
Mar 18, 2011I created a F14 x86_64 guest OS in VirtualBox4 (hosted by F14 x86_64) and configured it to get its IP from my router but it won't do so on boot. The other guest OS's (Fedora 14 i386, 2x Oracle EL5) are able to get their IPs on boot.
I checked the setting in the network manager and they show that the interface is to be activated on boot but it doesn't. When I log in and run ifup eth0 as root it works.

Jun 6, 2011When i try to create a virtual machine using the Windows 7 Enterprise Evaluation iso file, everything goes as planned untill i click on the start button. when i click on it i get two error messages. the first: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7. The virtual machine 'Windows 7' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1. Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908). The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. reinstall the kernel module by executing
'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'
as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. i have installed the DKMS package, but when i try to run the command stated in the error message, i get another error message in the terminal:

Feb 18, 2011We have a digital signage appliance built on SUSE 11.3 with a LAMP server that uses the flashplayer application to play a .swf file from localhost. It is a AOpen GP7A mini pc that has the nVidia drivers loaded. We have lots of customers that have been running the exact same system for over 6 months (we image the drive for each sale).
For some reason, my last customer is seeing the following problem shown below, and this linux configuration is way over my head. Everything else is working (local LAMP server is working, communicating with our production servers to get information works, etc). I have verified that it is screen 0 that is running (at least it shows with Ctrl-Alt-F7). I thought that it may have occurred because of updating the software with zypper up. I had the customer rebuild from the image being careful not to upgrade the software. The result was the same. The pc is a newer version compared to my bench pc, but there are multiple other customers running that same version just fine. So I am not sure if it is
The command is issued by a php script that is run in a root cron job. As I said, it works great on all other customer pc's including my bench system. I also tried to execute the command on a ssh terminal as the root user with the same result. I also upgraded my bench pc and it still worked properly.
The command being executed is sudo env DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/home/svision/.Xauthority flashplayer http://localhost/flash/sign.swf &
the result (when run in terminal) is: No protocol specified (flashplayer:15077): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0

OpenSUSE :: How To Use VirtualBox To Run Win 7 VM
Aug 10, 2011I have been going through forums and following "how to's" and walkthroughs on how to use VirtualBox to run my Win 7 VM. I have a pre-created VHD that I am importing to my OpenSuse 11.4 machine. One vhd was created in Hyper-V and has hardware and cpu cross compatibility turned on. Everything works perfect when booting it up on my Hyper-V server. When I move it over to my OpenSuse VirtualBox the VM will not boot. It gets to the "Starting Windows" screen and then throws an error screen that the VM encountered errors while booting. It then runs the Window's startup recovery tool and even tried to do a system restore. Nothing works and it never progresses beyond that point. Figuring there was something with the vhd file. I used Acronis Advanced Backup and Recovery to create a non hardware dependent backup that was automatically converted to a vhd. I know the process works as that is how I have converted the bulk of the servers at work into VM's. However, when I move the vhd file to the OpenSuse VirtualBox... it does the same thing.
So I am trying to figure out what might be going on here. Is VirtualBox not able to virtualize Win 7? If not then what VM software should I use? VMWare, Xen, ???
Ubuntu :: Update Manager Doesn't Open?
Jun 9, 2010I was trying to update the latest files of 10.04. During the update process suddenly my computer hanged. That was a hardware failure and my hard disk lost connection. When I solved it and boot into Ubuntu it just didn't open. A mark is shown on the above task bar that said "A problem occurred when checking for update."

Jul 6, 2010when i enable my ufw it completely shuts me out and closed my internet connection. i installed firewall configuraiton interface and through it defined rules to accept incoming internet connections on port 80, i can see the rules are there but when i enable my firewall it just shuts me out completely again.

May 26, 2010I tried upgrading today from VirtualBox 3.1 to 3.2 (VirtualBox-3.2-3.2.0_61806_openSUSE111-1.x86_64.rpm) on my openSUSE 11.2 system and it's not cooperating. The installation itself went fine, but as soon as I try to start a guest, the VirtualBox process ramps up to 100% and stays there until I poweroff the guest. The guest itself is VERY slow. These guests worked fine on 3.1.
For example, if I start an openSUSE guest and stop the Grub counter, therefore leaving the screen at the Grub bootloader, the VirtualBox process remains at 100% forever, without any activity on the guest.I also have a Windows guest and it has the same problem.
I can obviously try downgrading again to 3.1, but I was hoping that someone else has run into this issue and knows what to do about it.
