OpenSUSE :: Networkmanagement Applet Doesn't Works?
Aug 16, 2011
opensuse 11.4 kde 4.7 when I try to put networkmanagement applet plasmoid on desktop or panel I have an error tha say: "questo oggetto non puo' essere creato per la seguente ragione: impossibile trovare il componente richiesto: org.kde.networkmanagement" that in English should be something of this: "this object cannot be created for the following reason: impossible to find the requested component: rg.kde.networkmanagement" reading around it seems to be a qdbus error, if on a running system where networkmanagement works I run
Code:
qdbus
I found among the others
Code:

In summary, after updating from 11.2 through 11.3 to 11.4, normal boot works fine, failsafe mode hangs with two fatal errors - "Module atiixp not found" and "Module ide-pci-generic not found". i would like to fix this a) so I have a recovery position b) so I learn a little more. As 11.2 has gone out of support I decided to embark on the upgrades to 11.3 then 11.4 using the zypper method described on this site. I think failsafe boot worked ok with the original 11.2 install, but I never had to use it in anger, so I can't be 100% sure. I did not test failsafe in 11.3, just checked that the typical cd set of applications seemed ok before proceeding with the upgrade to 11.4.
I have an AMD processor, chip set and an ATI 3800 series graphics card, so I added the ATI repositories for 11.3 and 11.4 as i worked through the upgrades. At 11.4 there were some graphics glitches during normal and failsafe boot which were successfully fixed by adding "nomodeset" to both boot options. Normal boot works fine but failsafe boot hangs with the error messages above. Searching for failsafe boot errors is unhelpful since, in all cases I have checked, normal boot fails too. I did try removing "Xfailsafe" from the failsafe options which produced no change.
I am guessing that, in failsafe mode, the ATI drivers are not loaded into the kernel and the idea is to default to some safer drivers which, in my case, are not present for some reason. However, there seems to be little information on the origin or purposes of atiixp so I don't know how to go about fixing this. I have not really researched the generic pci driver issue, but I am guessing that this is a fall back when the expected atiixp is missing.

I am using this usb wifi adapter, it uses zd1211rw and it works fine if I connect it directly to the usb port, but if I add a cable (around 5mts) between the usb port and the usb plug, the device doesn't appear (I used iwconfig to check). The green light on the wifi adapter turns on but it doesn't blink like it does when connecting it directly without the cable. What could be happening?
I use the same cable + usb wifi adapter in windows, and it works fine, I can scan and connect without problems. When I use the cable, lsusb doesn't show the device neither, it does when connecting the adapter directly.

I have x11 forwarding enabled in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on a suse 11.2 32 bit box running kde I can open x apps on a windows machine using xming and putty just fine, but when I boot the same machine into suse 11.2 64 bit using kde and try using konsole I get: cannot connect to x server
The command I'm using to log in is: ssh -X -l username host I doubt the problem is with the server I'm logging into or it wouldn't work in windows, not really sure what to look for as I've never had a problem using x11 forwarding from a linux client before only windows ones

After the latest update of network-manager-gnome to version 1.1.90-3 , I see that I have to start the nm-applet in Testing from a terminal, otherwise I can't bring up my wired connection.
The usual nmcli networking on command is failing to connect, also restarting the network-manager.service with systemctl doesn't do anything, the only way to connect at this time is indeed to manually start the nm-applet from a terminal.
I've also spotted this message in the logs:
Code: Select alltraps: nm-applet[1105] general protection ip error:0 in libgobject-2.0.so.0.4600.2
Could it be something wrong with my configuration (although , it worked before this update) or is it some bug in network-manager-gnome 1.1.90 ?

In the indicator-applet-complete, I want the date and day to be displayed with the time. I open the Time & Date Settings, tick off the appropriate boxes, and nothing changes. The same is true for the Bluetooth icon. I can't remove the bluetooth icon from the indicator applet. It seems like a general problem with the indicator applet in that it doesn't save my settings.

My kupdate-applet tells me it has a recommended update: KDE 4.3.5 from the official opensuse update repo. Problem is I already have a more recent version of KDE 4.3.5 installed from the official opensuse KDE repo. In yast I pressed the "switch system packages" button for the KDE repo. How can I make the update applet ignore this "recommended" update? Note that the updateApplet itself is installed from the opensuse update repo. If I don't do this, then the older update applet from the KDE repo always has a recommended update for... Kupdate-applet.

The auto connect feature of NetworkManager Applet (version 0.7.997) isn't working on my system. If the WiFi connection dies, Network Manager doesn't detect that the connection has been lost and try to reestablish the connection. I have to manually click on the WiFi hotspot to reestablish the connection. This appears to be the case both while the computer is running and when I first boot it up (i.e. when booting, if the first attempt at establishing a WiFi connection doesn't succeed, Network Manager doesn't retry or try another hotspot). Is this "normal" behavior for Network Manager? If not, does anyone know a fix? Here's some more info about my system:

I have my Linux laptop running Katatonic Koala at the moment. It is connected via CAT5 to a switch. The switch then connects to my router. All five of my computers are connected to the switch, actually. The only one that won't talk to any sites other than https secure sites is the Linux box. I am not well-versed in the inner workings of Linux and need some help in what I need to do so that regular http sites work. You guys always have the right anwers so I will wait humbly for your replies.

When I bring down a certain machine with some nfs mounts using init 0, it hangs forever while trying to bring down the mounts, but if I bring it down using halt -p (which I've read just calls shutdown if I'm in init 3), it comes down in a timely manner. I've also read that shutdown still calls all the rc.d kill scripts just like init 0, so what is actually the difference between them? Is it this:
Quote:
All processes are first notified that the system is going down by the signal SIGTERM?Does init not do that? I'm not trying to directly troubleshoot why NFS makes me hang with init 0 at this point, just wondering why shutdown works whereas init 0 doesn't.

I recently got a cable modem from Comcast, and connected a Belkin F5D7230-4 wireless router to it, then connected my computer and an Xbox 360 to the router with ethernet cables.
My computer dual-boots Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7. In either operating system, the wireless connection is flawless. In Windows, so is the wired connection. But in Ubuntu, there's a lot of trouble with the wired connection -- specifically, while I can connect to the router and to the Internet, and while I can use ping, dig, traceroute, etc., to verify connections to remote hosts, Web browsing, or anything else that uses http, works only for a few Websites, and then only erratically.
I don't believe it is a DNS problem -- testing with ping, dig, etc., demonstrates that, and I have also tried using alternate nameservers. I also don't believe that it is an issue with IPv6, as I've tried the fixes usually suggested, including editing the grub configuration to disable IPv6 support in the kernel and verifying that IPv6 was inactive. I've also tried using local dns servers such as pdns-recursor. None of these things seemed to help.
Also, perhaps unrelated, but disturbing: my computer has locked up a few times while testing the wired connection, and I had to use a hard reset to restart the computer.

I am having an issue with my server I have setup. I have apache running and can access the files via all other computers on my network via the ip address i have it set to default to the /var/www folder with index.html as the main file. I am however having issues trying to access it from my other IP the one i found at what is my ip. I have even setup a no-ip address to it. I've forwarded port 20 and port 80 i've even given it the default dmz. I disabled the firewall on my router and I checked and my Ubuntu machine doesn't have a firewall whatsoever i can access my outside ip on the local machine and have access the problem i'm having is trying to access it from anywhere but home. I've got 9.04 and 9.10 both installed on the same machine. The /home directory is on a separate partition, so both OSes use the same /home.I can't get Compiz to work at all in 9.10, even though it's been perfectly fine in 9.04. Is there a backport of some sort that i should install? The fixes I've found all point to editing the xorg.conf file, but of course, Karmic doesn't have an xorg.conf file.I've tried reinstalling the Compiz files, reinstalled the open-source video drivers, installed/uninstalled fglrx drivers a few times, rebooted dozens of times.

I installed nVidia drivers for Ubuntu 11.04 but when I went to restart the computer (to complete the installation) it froze on the splash screen at the third "dot" and I had to turn off the computer manually.
I can shut down the computer, but every time I restart I get the same issue (except sometimes only the "dots" appear with lines of code running in the background).
I read on-line that hitting "F1" or "ALT + F1" right before the splash screen appears might work...but it doesn't.
My concern is that maybe the nVidia driver is "activated but not currently in use" because it didn't install properly due to the whole not restarting on it's own thing.

my internet connections works via my eth0 adapter. For Windows user this may be fine, but I actually would like to know what makes it connect. My /etc/network/interfaces shows:
[code]...
No eth0 mentioned here. dhcp3/dhclient.conf consists only of commented-out lines, so no eth0 here either. In /etc/init.d I see there is this networking daemon. When I do
[code]...
that magically enhanced eth0 works even if you want to shut it down. No wonder I don't get my wlan0 working, my PC doesn't seem to care about anything I am configuring here.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10..My sound works fine unless I have headphones plugged in. I've tried 2 sets of headphones, and it doesn't work with either set, so it's not the headphones. The volume is not muted (it's at 100%) for the headphones either in alsamixer. How can I diagnose and fix this?
