I was want to know how can one move application tabs in KDE around the taskbar, I can do this in XFCE-taskbar, but in KDE it doesn't seem to work, I just grab it and try to move right, but it doesn't move), well, does anybody know where you can setup this? Such a simple function and no, not working?
View 3 RepliesCurrently the way tabs on the taskbar look (the bar at the bottom) make it a bit hard to distinguish between them. sometimes they all look like one big clump of text. its quite messy. when you look at something like the windows xp taskbar [URL] its much easier to see between them. I guess its also because the buttons look 3D in that they stick out a bit. Plus the choice of colours used for when you are on a tab helps.
How do I change/find a theme for this?
I was messing with Compiz to enable cube and 3D cube and something disable the rearranging of the tabs in my taskbar. I'm not sure what it was, Something was disabled. Anyone know how to re-enable this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirefox is sometimes slow opening new tabs/switching between tabs. If I click on the kickoff application launcher button, it takes a few seconds to open, and typing something in the search makes it hang up for about 20 seconds before it does the search. Clicking on an app takes 16 seconds before the menu window closes and the program begins to start. Then it takes another 30sec-1min before the app is usable. smplayer plays video with tearing.
Like right now I tried taking a screenshot, and it tells me
Error launching /usr/share/applications/kde4/ksnapshot.desktop. Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application.
while the app worked fine.
I also tried running glxgears right now, and it runs but the gears don't move, and terminal states

after 48 requests (48 known processed) with 15 events remaining.
If I'm on dolphin, and I click a video to start smplayer, it takes about 1 minute for it to start.

Top shows an average usage of less than 10% average. Xorg is always 25%, kwin is always 10% and then rest of the apps are less than that.

When I ssh into the computer with x tunneling, the programs start up faster than being on the desktop
I like openSuSE, but the main thing I miss from Ubuntu is the ability to have complete control over the applications menu. Ubuntu had a clean menu where everything was one level deep, with pretty basic categories. But opening alacarte in openSuSE (running 11.2 with GNOME) is an absolute mess. There are categories for "Astronomy", "Kidsgames", and a whole bunch of folders that I would never use. And it's nearly impossible to get rid of them. Selecting delete almost never works; the closest I've gotten was to re-name a whole bunch of ".directory" files so that the system wouldn't find them, but it still created the majority of them, only this time with generic folders over the default icons.
Plus, I would like to be able to change which application goes to which category in the Application Browser. That menu is much more clean, but I would like to create a "Games" section for it, and move my text editors from Utility to Development. I know that most of the .desktop files are in /usr/share/applications (I have a couple in /usr/local/share), the directories are defined in /usr/share/desktop-directories and ~/.local/share/desktop-directories, and the menu itself seems to define categories in /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu. But despite knowing all of this, I still have no idea how to clean up alacarte and how to move around launchers in the Application Browser.
I installed Startup Manager but the appearance and security tabs are missing. I really want to be able to change the resolution of the splash screen cause it looks all pixelated and I want to have the splash screen that 9.10 had.
I tried reinstalling and restarting but the issue remains. I know its somewhat functional because I am able to change the seconds that grub takes but when I try to change the resolution of the purple ubuntu startup screen it looks like it tries to change it but it fails.
When I launch an app I get a little icon next to the Ubuntu logo which when pressed takes me back to the launcher but I have seemed to removed those little icons that let you switch between running apps, does anyone know how I get it back? I have tried:Window List/Picker/Selector but none of them look the same as what was there by default.

1)I lost ability to move application window. eg, The firefox window is stuck and anchored at the upper left corner. I can still resize by dragging the lower right corner. I notice the upper right corner resize tab disappears. If open another application, it is again anchored at upper left corner and cannot be moved.
2)under Settings>Xfce Setting Manager> Window Manager, all the icons are gone. Same inside Window ManagerTweaks. I used "xfce4-panel" in terminal, it doesn't help.
Just installed a new computer with ubuntu 10.10. I assign shortkey alt+1 to move workspace left and alt+2 to move workspace right.When I move workspace the focus application move with me to the new workspace. That is kind of annoying since I usually build up my workspace with mail here, music here, surf here. This happens whether Opera is open already or has to be started from scratch. The link could be in KMail, Akregator or even a link on an applications About box, it makes no difference. View 4 Replies View Related(It just quietly fails so I'm left wondering like in Windoze "is it hanging?") On the taskbar, next to my computer icon I inserted a drawer. I was hoping to put in my Favorite Applications (wine apps don't seem to get inputed to opensuse's recent list.
What I've tried is: (all to no avail, also note: I've been inputing this in Add To Drawer- Custom Application Launcher.) Also, note the directory location is valid as well, it's how I did it in my windoze installation.

Often I open FireFox, get information, which I want to save in an OpenOffice Writer or Calc file.So I go to the left lower corner on the screen, tap on Computer, and then on OpenOffice Writer.When the OpenOffice window has opened, I do not see, as I used to do, the FireFox button on the taskbar (or panel), I have to drag the OpenOffice window, so I can access my FireFox window. When I do that, the OO window bounces, which makes me feel rather sea-sick.Is there a way to have the button for the open applications visible on the task bar (or panel) so that I can go immediately to the other open application ?
