OpenSUSE :: 11.4 KDE Autohide Taskbar Not Working?
Mar 11, 2011
far good experience with 11.4 on an AMD desktop, but noticed that the taskbar will not autohide. For now I've changed to "windows can cover" setting so I can at least see the bottom of full-height windows.

I am running openSUSE 11.3 on a Lenovo S10 netbook. I have the default panel that is installed with the Slab etc at the bottom of the screen set to autohide. However, it does not do this consistently. Sometimes I have to minimize and then maximize an app window to get it to hide again.

Since I upgraded from F13 to F14, I no longer get thumbnails of windows when hovering the mouse above the taskbar entry. I have all the appropriate optionsjust no thumbnails.Anyone else experience this? I can't find any similar issues in this forum or Google.

In Windows 7 when you hover over an open application in the taskbar, it shows a small image of that application. Is there a way this can be done in Linux?

I'm running 11.4 with KDE 4.6 on a dual-monitor system. I cannot, for the life of me, get the taskbar to appear at the bottom of my main display (the laptop display).I've tried to add the taskbar, system tray etc, but these appear as widgets on the desktop, rather than along the bottom of the display.

OK so I decided to finally rid of the bottom panel. And I was about to click delete when I realized it could be a really cool side panel. I set it right, autohide, and bam. It was gone and now its there I can get to it

Recently upgraded to 11.04, and I am happy with the intent but unhappy with the bugs.
I have a specific problem at the moment, the unity launcher will not auto-hide, which means I cannot access the left side of any application (such as the back button for instance). Does anyone know of a fix?
A restart fixes the problem, but If I don't want to do that then I have to set the auto-hide option in Compiz to never, so that application windows stop at the launcher, and don't dissapear underneath. (setting back to other auto-hide options doesn't work)

I am hitting a wall here - with the new 4.4 installed and working well, the one thing that is killing me is not being able to read the active taskbar item or the plasma peanut menu (see screenshot. You can see that the firefox and gimp are "active" and too dark to read, while kwrite is inactive and readable. They are BOTH too dark, and I cannot seem to find the option that controls those color elements.

I have openSuse 11.2 with KDE 4.3.1 desktop. I accidentally closed my taskbar and now I can't get it to reappear. I already tried to run kicker (Alt + F2), but that didn't work.

(It just quietly fails so I'm left wondering like in Windoze "is it hanging?") On the taskbar, next to my computer icon I inserted a drawer. I was hoping to put in my Favorite Applications (wine apps don't seem to get inputed to opensuse's recent list.
What I've tried is: (all to no avail, also note: I've been inputing this in Add To Drawer- Custom Application Launcher.) Also, note the directory location is valid as well, it's how I did it in my windoze installation.
Code:
"wine c: Program FilesWoWWow.exe"
wine "c: Program FilesWoWWow.exe"
wine c:\ Program Files\WoW\Wow.exe
wine c: Program FilesWoWWow.exe

Often I open FireFox, get information, which I want to save in an OpenOffice Writer or Calc file.So I go to the left lower corner on the screen, tap on Computer, and then on OpenOffice Writer. When the OpenOffice window has opened, I do not see, as I used to do, the FireFox button on the taskbar (or panel), I have to drag the OpenOffice window, so I can access my FireFox window. When I do that, the OO window bounces, which makes me feel rather sea-sick.Is there a way to have the button for the open applications visible on the task bar (or panel) so that I can go immediately to the other open application ?

On both my installs of F10-xfce (aa1 and 2420) the xfce panel (aka task bar), has a habit of freezing always on top Solution - roll your own widget ...
right click panel
.. Add New Item
.. highlight Launcher
.. +Add
.. name .. unfreeze me (*not important)
.. description .. i am stuck (*not important)
[Code]...
note 1 i here tell that the panel close and restart command (xfce4-panel -r) may not restart all widgets, but have not found this to be the case

I am using 9.10 Ubuntu with the Compiz window manager. I am interested in changing the behavior of the panel (top and bottom) autohide operation. I have been in the CompizConfig Settings Manager / General Options and changed the Edge Trigger delay but that does not seem to impact how fast the panels unhide when I am at the edges. I would like to delay the response time before unhide occurs. Also, I would like to narrow the trigger region so that I have to be closer to the edge to trigger it. Does anyone know how to control these things? Can you direct me to any documentation? I am comfortable working underground (command line, editing, programming) but I often find myself stepping into an ocean when I try to solve simple problems,

I've just started to test kde4 that comes with slackware64-current. I've always used kde3 just because I can let the autohided panel to appear when the mouse hits the opposite side of the desktop (I think it is a sane behaviour to avoid to accidentaly unhide it while I operate on toolbars and buttons near the location of the panel), so I looked for the same feature inside the new uselessly eye catching d.e. and I couldn't figure out how to get this basic, but powerful, feature.

So this morning I just upgraded my laptop from OpenSuSE 11.2 to 11.4. I am using the Gnome Desktop (2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2011-04-25 21:48:33 +0200 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux).
As of right now the "Taskbar" at the bottom of the desktop, does NOT stretch all the way across the bottom (meaning it would start on bottom-left edge and go to the bottom-right edge) of the screen. Right now it is sort of centered at the bottom, and its size changes depending on how many windows are open.
So is there any way to set it to a fixed width (by that I mean I want it to take up the entire bottom of the screen x-amount of pixels high, etc..

I request assistance to fix the following annoying problem: In SuSE 11.2, GNOME, the taskbar and menus are not available after boot up. Consequently I do not have access to applications which I urgently need for some work I am doing.
Lately I had to reboot a couple of times (by way of terminal window) in the hope that it comes up. Now, however, the taskbar/menues do not come up any more.

I have a Fujitsu P1610 convertible running 9.10. I only like the two bars visible when I need them otherwise they just take up valuable screen space, especially on a 8.9" screen.
My problem is I cannot make the bars come up by moving the cursor via my finger. It works fine if I move the pointer via a mouse but that is not an option when in tablet mode. How can I make them come up when I move the cursor to their location via my finger?

I use Multiple Desktops, however when I change my Desktop I still see the applications from the previous workspace. This takes up a lot of space on the Taskbar.
I have the following settings at Application Launcher-> TaskBar;
-unchecked: Show windows from all Desktop
-checked: Sort windows by desktop
Are there any other changes that I need to make.
