I am using open suse 11.3 (gnome). Have installed gnome commander and it is asking for gksu to be installed to enable root file function. Have searched Webpin and can only find the 11.2 package which will not install in 11.3.
View 7 RepliesI installed lubuntu 10.10 from a minimal netinstall. For some reason, the main menu entry for synaptic package manager uses gksu instead of gksudo at the beginning of the command, as revealed by right-clicking the entry, then clicking "properties". This, of course, precludes the ability to access the program unless you're among the few who have activated the root user account. That's a problem in and of itself, but it's been recognized elsewhere. However, after I fixed the command and clicked "ok", nothing changed. I opened up the little properties menu again and it was gksu, as though I hadn't fixed the command.
The properties window is a mysterious little program called lxshortcut. I suspect that if I run lxshortcut using sudo, then the changes I make will actually stick. Problem is, I don't know how to find the actual location of the main menu's SPM shortcut/launcher-thingy. Nor are there any clear instructions on how to use lxshortcut in terminal. I flailed about with my best interpretation of vague instructions, but to no avail.
I downloaded alacarte (which is, of course, intended for gnome), and I got the software sources entry to show up in the list, but nothing else in the program responded when I clicked. The whole experience in alacarte was weird and unhelpful and somehow I've outright removed the menu entry for synaptic. And that's fine, I barely use it anyway, but Software Sources also has the same gksu problem, and I actually use that one. So how do I change the command associated with one of the preferences in the lxde/lubuntu main menu?
gksu doesn't come with Fedora 14, but since i'm running on the latest VirtualBox, i need gksu to install the guest additions. anyone know how to install latest gksu or how to workaround this dependency?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just visited this page here, Updating openSUSE - openSUSE I have been trying to update my OpenSuSE system for a week now and I have absolutely no idea what causes this problem. The update would start but would stop right in the middle and refuse to install some pulseaudio(...) package... It would indicate that network is down while I am sure it is up.
I am behind a proxy and I have again and again made sure that the proxy settings are correct and alright. Since it downloads some of the packages in the start I believe my connection and settings are OK. Maybe the SuSE server is down, but not for a whole week, I don't think so. I would also like to mention that I have only tried updating through YaST GUI and I am, as of yet, unaware of any console or command-line methods of updating.
I really would like to update my system because I happen to be paranoid in matters of computer security. (Just kidding) But since I cannot install any updates it should mean I might have problem installing new software. So my digital life is literally crippled because of this problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedOriginally I used YAST's Software Packages to download and install ndiswrapper so that I can set up my Netgear wn511TA wireless card to work with GNOME openSUSE 11.2 default (2.6.31.8-0.1-default). I followed the guide in Ndiswrapper - openSUSE. I almost got it then was thrown off course by Network Manager. Now, back to square one. 1. Software Management shows 3 installed packages: ndiswrapper, ndiswrapper-kmp default and ndiswrapper desktop. Which of these should I run in order to install the Windows .INF driver file?
e.g. <ndiswrapper> -i <windriver.inf>
or <ndiswrapper-kmp-default> -i <windriver.inf>
The reason for this is when I modprobe <ndiswrapper(?)>, I got: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31.8-0.1-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory. /etc/lib/modules is blank but home/user/lib/modules has the default 2.6.31.8-0.1-default module.
I already install mplayer-mt manually from git repository. Now, I want to install gnome-mplayer but it require me to install vanilla mplayer again.
Is there a way to tell that dependency already met ? Or should I just make mplayer-mt package by myself ? (this kinda work in ubuntu)
I have installed opensuse 11.4 64 bit on a dell optiplex 755 with 4 gigs of RAM. Everything seems to be functioning but when I try to install new apps through YAST or zypper, it starts to download the package and it's dependencies, but you see it quickly slow down on the download speed until it gets to nothing, and I get the Abort,Retry prompt. The internet connection is fine. I can install apps from the DVD medium.

If I have the online repos enabled the package eclipse is found in
Index of /distribution/11.2/repo/oss
If I disable the online repos the packages are not found on the dvd.
i have now searched the dvd and eclipse is not available.
What is wrong? Why eclipse is not on dvd?
Is there an extra dvd as I read only non oss stuff is on other
dvd nad language special stuff..

Manual intervention is required" If I click on "Packages" a dialog box opens with this message:

Recently I got a requirement to update the kickstart file in Suse to install all the available packages by default during provisioning. I have been doing this in RHEL by using the macro @everything. get an equivalent of @everything for package installation in SUSE.

I'm currently on opensuse 11.1 and I was looking at the upgrade to 11.2 because it has the DeviceKit package I was wanting But being as the 11.2 uses the ext4 instead of ext3 it may be just a little more than I would like can I, instead, just install the package from the 11.2 into my 11.1 system or is that ext4/ext3 thing gonna hork that up ?just kinda liking the whole " my system works just fine " thing and not really wanting to reload the box..

I found it finally by entering "Integrated Development Environment" in the search text box, clicking "Description" only, and clicking Search. I'm backtracking now to figure out how to find it and other development tools/ide's quicker in the future.I clicked the Technical Data tab for kdevelop4 and in the details, "Package Group" shows "Development/Tools/IDE".In Yast, I then clicked on the "Package Groups" tab and searched on the left-hand side for "Development". But it's now there.
In OpenSuSE 10.3, when I viewed the Package Groups tree structure, there was a node, "Development" which contained kdevelop3. But I can't seem to find the "Development" Package Group in OpenSuSE 11.2.
My system needs the pnm2ppa package for printer driver installation (CUPS). It can't be found, so I think, I have to add a repository. But what's the name/url? openSUSE 11.2 586

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing 11.0 64bit OpenSuse. I was updating this workstation. Everything was working good. I rebooted from the last set of updates and now I am trying to access the Package Manager from yast, but it is not working now. It starts up, then it goes to an "Initializing", then a popup says that "Accessing the Package Manager Failed". It also notes that something else is using the package manager, then gives me choice to either continue or retry.

This usually worked fine, but this time, the installation always fails at about 89% while installing some package, whose name I can't find out. Its script fails with error 127, the error message blocks access to the log.
Is there a way to continue the installation process afterwards, instead of always trying to reinstall and hoping to find out the name of the failing package?
I wanted to fix something in the Kate editor. So instead of downloading it from it's website (Get It! - Kate | Get an Edge in Editing) I wanted to download the "openSUSE Kate" source package. But as you can see, there is no source package available. I tested it with source installation of "zypper" (zypper si zypper) and it worked.Any ideas? Is the kate source code in another package?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy procedure for updating the installed packages was, to klick on the list of packages that are installed in the installation source @ system in YAST and choose "Update if newer version is available". Up to Suse 11.3 Yast automatically chooses the latest version from each available repository that is installed (eg, Packman or Mozilla Build Service). With 11.4 however, I noticed that it only updates a package, if a newer version is avalible in the repository from which the package originally origines. Since I don't want to look through 4 GB of packages manually, whether there are newer versions in another repository available, I ask you if I there is a posibility to get the old behavior of YAST back.
