OpenSUSE Install :: Where Is Package Group Development (kdevelop4)
Jan 15, 2010
I hunted down kdevelop4 through yast. I found it finally by entering "Integrated Development Environment" in the search text box, clicking "Description" only, and clicking Search. I'm backtracking now to figure out how to find it and other development tools/ide's quicker in the future.I clicked the Technical Data tab for kdevelop4 and in the details, "Package Group" shows "Development/Tools/IDE".In Yast, I then clicked on the "Package Groups" tab and searched on the left-hand side for "Development". But it's now there.
In OpenSuSE 10.3, when I viewed the Package Groups tree structure, there was a node, "Development" which contained kdevelop3. But I can't seem to find the "Development" Package Group in OpenSuSE 11.2.

As topic, I have trouble with compiling brlcad as this thread.
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=249899
I assume the last problem I encounter was lack of development package in the system. Hence, I tried "yum install Xorg-devel" and the terminal reply"No package xorg-x11-devel available."

I'm trying to install a third party development package for the TI DM355 platform. The build script for this tests for the mono package which must have been available in a previous release of Ubuntu but has been deprecated in version 10. Which package provides mono support and how can I touch the package database to make it look like mono is installed so the ./configure script will be happy?

I just installed F12 from LiveCD. Works beautifully.
However I realized that all software development tools are missing. I have now made a new DVD of full Fedora 12 but cannot install (as the install hangs on my Dell Optiplex)
My question is, can I go somewhere in my F12, and add "Software Development" package, directly from the F12 DVD install disc. (i.e. without reinstalling the whole linux)

After downloading the files for your system you'll probably have two files named lua-5.1_XXXXX.tar.gz - contains the library and includes for developers lua-5.1_XXXXX_bin.tar.gz - contains the executables for end user
But the archive at [url] doesnt contain such files.

I'm trying to make a local package server for my offline development network. Can anyone recommend a mirror containing every single package for CentOS 5.4 x86 as well as 64 bit? I've looked around but I haven't had too much luck yet.

I was trying to setup a cross-platform development environment with qt, an thus looked for the qt-sdk package I used to install on my 32-bit machine. This package appears to have been deleted from 64-bit ubuntu maverick, but I do not understand the details...
- Has this package been renamed, or is there another one in place of it?
- Is this package going to be available again in the future?
PS: I am aware that one can install the sdk by downloading the installer, but for unattended install I prefer the apt package...

For some odd reason in wheezy it's not downloading the packages in the 'all' architecture, this leads to interesting issues when it comes to things like installing chromium and other packages that aren't built for one particular architecture. I've only noticed this in wheezy, and i'm not sure if this is normal. If there is any easy way to fix this, I'd be more than happy to hear. When i try to do an apt-get update, it only downloads from amd64 and not all. I've tried the mit mirror, and also the one shown there or well the default one but it still doesn't seem to be working right.

I have just visited this page here, Updating openSUSE - openSUSE I have been trying to update my OpenSuSE system for a week now and I have absolutely no idea what causes this problem. The update would start but would stop right in the middle and refuse to install some pulseaudio(...) package... It would indicate that network is down while I am sure it is up.
I am behind a proxy and I have again and again made sure that the proxy settings are correct and alright. Since it downloads some of the packages in the start I believe my connection and settings are OK. Maybe the SuSE server is down, but not for a whole week, I don't think so. I would also like to mention that I have only tried updating through YaST GUI and I am, as of yet, unaware of any console or command-line methods of updating.
I really would like to update my system because I happen to be paranoid in matters of computer security. (Just kidding) But since I cannot install any updates it should mean I might have problem installing new software. So my digital life is literally crippled because of this problem.

I would like to install development tools / libs, such as gcc. But I haven't selected them during the opensuse 11.2 x64 installation, and when I use the yast2/software management to install programming packages, there are many items, and I don't know which should/should not be installed. Even when I select all to install, it seems many conflicts reported. So is there any easy way to install the development packages properly, without reinstalling the os?

In openSUSE 11.3 when I selected the Python Development pattern for install, it included everything needed for Python development. I installed openSUSE 11.4 yesterday from the full DVD ISO and selected the Python Development pattern, but all it installed is the patterns-openSUSE-devel_python meta package, which apparently doesn't include any other software. It didn't even install the python interpreter.
Of course I can easily install what I need manually, but the pattern is a handy one for quick installs that need Python. Is this pattern broken under 11.4 or am I missing something? I couldn't find anything about this behavior in the release notes, known 11.4 bug list on the forums, Google, etc.

Looking for a recommendation on database development software. I tried Openoffice Database. The program crashes frequently when establishing relationships. If the data types of the relationship disagree, the program crashes. Also, the screen for establishing relationships is too small. I will probably need about 40 tables, and the Openoffice relationship map can realistically handle only about 12.
Apparently Access is up to the task of the development. Ultimately, I want to convert the developed database into a LAMP Web application. Also, I'm thinking of jobbing out much of the development. Is their an equivalent Linux-based solution, or should I hold my nose and go ahead with Access and Windows?

It is bad enough that the kernel gods have basically required that the whole kernel source tree be installed and configured to compile even a simple module but they have made it so a module compiled on one kernel will not work on any other.
To make the situation worse much of the configuration needed to successfully compile a module has been left out of open suse11.3. If you want to replicate the problems may I suggest you attempt to compile the usb-skeleton.c driver example code that is included with each kernel. If it is the intent of the linux community to limit driver development to the professionals then congratulations.

On Windows and Mac it's as simple as downloading some WAMP and XAMP stack and clicking "install".
On OpenSUSE I'm trying to do it myself. I went into YaST and installed the "Web and LAMP Server" pattern.
Then I edited the default-server.conf file to point towards my website by changing the DocumentRoot and <Directory "blah blah"> lines.
Then I tried to start apache, but got the following error:
Code:
# apache2ctl restart
httpd2: Syntax error on line 188 of /etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/apache2/sysconfig.d/include.conf: No such file or directory
So I just went into httpd.conf and commented out that line.

I'm trying to install the development files via yast i.e. libkde4-devel and I keep libkde4-devel 4.2.80 requires libkde4 4.6.80. Ok I understand this I have libkde4 4.6.2 but no package for libkde4-devel 4.6.2. If I try to install libkde4 4.6.80 the conflicts just keep growing. What do you have to do to get libkde4-devel install on suse 11.4 (x64).

Originally I used YAST's Software Packages to download and install ndiswrapper so that I can set up my Netgear wn511TA wireless card to work with GNOME openSUSE 11.2 default (2.6.31.8-0.1-default). I followed the guide in Ndiswrapper - openSUSE. I almost got it then was thrown off course by Network Manager. Now, back to square one. 1. Software Management shows 3 installed packages: ndiswrapper, ndiswrapper-kmp default and ndiswrapper desktop. Which of these should I run in order to install the Windows .INF driver file?
e.g. <ndiswrapper> -i <windriver.inf>
or <ndiswrapper-kmp-default> -i <windriver.inf>
The reason for this is when I modprobe <ndiswrapper(?)>, I got: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31.8-0.1-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory. /etc/lib/modules is blank but home/user/lib/modules has the default 2.6.31.8-0.1-default module.
