I recently migrated from Ubuntu 10.10 to Opensuse 11.3
I sometimes need lxsplit to join splitted files.
In Ubuntu I installed lxsplit from the repos but I can't find it in the Add/Remove software, here in opensuse.
Do I need to enable any additional repos to install lxsplit?
Is it possible to temporarily enable all repos from within the command line? It would be useful when searching for packages. ie yum enablerepo=* search tint2 (which doesn't work btw!)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a way to install kdebase 4.7 with no additional dependencies. My target is home desktop and I only want these : kdm, plasma, ark, dolphin, kdesu, konsole, okteta, kwrite, kate, kmix, ksnapshot. There are things I don't use but they get installed anyway and break kdm if removed. These things are : akonadi, strigi, nepomuk, virtuoso, kfind, kgreeter and a couple of others, including libqtzeitgeist0 and PIM in general. Also I don't want kdm 4.7 features hence I use kdm3 as a login manager. Is there a 4.7 build that doesn't mind the removal of so called base components? If not, is there a 4.4 repo for 11.4?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent update, when ever I attempt to open a ".ogv" extension from within Dolphin File Mananger in KDE4.4.2, I get a window that pops up every time for Checking For additional Software to install. It does this in spite of the fact I already have several players and the default set to SMPlayer to play the files. How do I turn this behavior off? It's really annoying because you either have to wait for it to finish checking (and finding nothing BTW) or Cancel it in order to play the file. This just started recently. I don't see anything obvious in Dolphin configuration, but I'm not even sure it's related to Dolphin at all.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to build the java gnome gtk+ bindings on open suse and ran into a snag. the libcairo2-dev package is not apart of pensuse - how ever it is apart of ubuntu and the debian launchpad. can i install other distros repos to solve this issue? actually no i cant. how to install this package? zypper install libcairo2-dev comes back as not found.

I set parameters in fstab as fmask=113,dmask=002,umask=0002,rw Oddly, I was able to delete a file in there, but my samba users have read-only access, and I can't use chown or chmod: I get no error message, but nothing happens.

Something like doing a kfilereplace on the /etc/zypp/repos.d/ folder and changing all occurances of 11.3 to 11.4 (in all *repo, which are all the files in the folder). Will this work?

After installing Mac OS X, Windows Vista SP1,I installed openSUSE 11.2.
The installation was successful, but encountered problem at the 1st reboot after installation.
The Grub loaded without problem. but then, "The Entire Screen Went Black".
So is it because the graphic card(iMac with ATI) is not supported? Or because of other reasons.

Now here is where I am not sure on the install, so I don't screw my self up. I have 100mb partition on sda0 that windows 7 is using, do I enable grub or have the boot write to MBR?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust did a clean install of 11.3. After first try, system couldn't boot for hard drive. When installing a second time, I noticed that booting from a boot partition and the MBR are disabled by default. I enabled both and proceeded with the install. System now boots fine. Since the automatic partitioning created a boot partition, I'm assuming that that is where the system is booting from and I didn't need to enable booting from MBR, but am not 100% sure. So make sure to at least enable booting from a boot partition

I have upgraded successfully to 11.4 I note that with zyper repo ls I have 11.4 and 11.3 repos. The 11.3 are all disabled. Do they need to stay in 11.4 or can I remove and delete them - will probably do this via YAST?

(and subsequently have access to my files etc there).I have now installed 10.4 on a new machine (clean install) and I don't seem to have access from 'Places' now. The only way I can get to it is via a web browser.Is it just hidden away somewhere? Or do I need to install some additional packages?

I intended to upgrade to fedora 15 but my old laptop only has 512mb so I have to stick with 14 (which is good anyway). I did this at the command line on the way the upgrade:
1)yum -y update
2)rpm --import http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...EY-fedora-i386
3)rpm -Uvh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...5-1.noarch.rpm http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...5-1.noarch.rpm
When I realised my error, I removed rpmfusion-free & nonfree, xfce-4.8.repo & virtualbox.repo which I had installed after installing 14.
Now I am stuck with the fedora 15 repos in /etc/yum.repos.d/: fedora-rawhide-repo, fedora-repo, fedora-updates.repo & fedora-updates-testing-repo
i am using internet in my university hostel.there i am on Lan.my ip is ManuallY configured .

and i am having problem while downloading repos via yum .
When I shut down or restart my computer, I can see there are some errors related to failed services (about xinetd, I think, which is NOT enable). But it scroll too fast and I cannot note them. Sorry for the "newbie" question: how can I see the log of what happened ? (dmesg only gives log about kernel, if I'm not wrong.)
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I start yast2 it seems to hang at around 50% (the lower progress bar) while refreshing the repositories. It can sit there for a minute before moving on. Once yast2 has started and I add / remove repos the refresh happens very quickly. It's only when starting that it gets stuck.
This is something that really only started after I upgraded to 11.2. In 11.1 the progress bar would move cross quickly and you could see the various repos flashing up above the progress bar. I didn't bother with it too much but it's starting to annoy me now. It also sometimes just hangs there permanently and I have to abort it.
I've tried unconditionally updating the yast stuff but it hasn't helped. My network connection is fine and I have now problems or speed issues with browsing the repo urls from a browser.
I figure it is better to ask something silly rather than do something silly.
How do i copy the OpenSuse 11.1 repos to a local disk to get faster access?
If i do copy them will i need to copy the oss and non-oss repos again? (I know i will for update and maybe for others)
Is there a current repo for somewhat older ATI video cards like X1300?
I've installed Fedora from the Live CD (Fedora 13). The Installation Guide says that if you install from the DVD (or, as I understand it, the five or so CDs) you get the choice of installing lots more software. I've now got a copy of the CD. But how do I use it to install the extra software it contains? The Installation Guide says use the Add/Remove Software tool. But that tries to download stuff from the Internet. Nothing about installing from the DVD.

Couldn't find via the YaST software management repositories/online search and don't really want to manually recompile the kernel.Most (months old) post on the forum about it seem to indicate simply having to wait.The reason why I'm asking is because (samba) access to a single partition is extremely slow (30s rather than 4s) for opening 24m episodes of whatever. I suspect this to be due to fragmentation as that disk has been serving as the 'torrent disk' for several years now which is known to cause severe fragmentation.The only way to find out if this is caused by fragmentation would of course be to defragmentate it.
All samba shares are set up the exact same way (via YaST) btw, so fragmentation was the only logical conclusion I could come up which would lead to a gradual (over the years) drop in performance.Please spare me the "linux file systems don't need defragmentation" as the e4defrag tool wouldn't be developed if that was the case and this most likely falls under a worst use case scenario
