Mar 8, 2011Anyone have the links to the upgrade repos for 11.4? Wanting to go ahead and set those up so when I get in to work in the morning I can start the upgrade.

May 29, 2010I have a website that has a massive list of royalty free stock photos and I want to download all of them. I have bought a membership for [URL] so I am able to download as much as I want from them for the next month.
Instead of going page by page and manually downloading each set of stock photos manually, I would like to automate this process. Here's my idea:
1. Download the website with the links to hotfile [URL]
2. Use grep to retrieve all the links to [URL]
3. Feed the links I recieve from grep into wget and download the works of them.
The problem I'm getting is when I use grep, It retrieves the entire line of html code where "hotfile.com" is shown. So here is an example of one link I receive in the output:

Is there a way to just have the link shown in the output?

I sometimes need lxsplit to join splitted files.
In Ubuntu I installed lxsplit from the repos but I can't find it in the Add/Remove software, here in opensuse.
Do I need to enable any additional repos to install lxsplit?

Apr 17, 2011I am trying to build the java gnome gtk+ bindings on open suse and ran into a snag. the libcairo2-dev package is not apart of pensuse - how ever it is apart of ubuntu and the debian launchpad. can i install other distros repos to solve this issue? actually no i cant. how to install this package? zypper install libcairo2-dev comes back as not found.

Mar 7, 2011As I have 15 repo's enabled in Yast it a bit tedious changing them in the package manager, is there an easier way to bulk change them? Something like doing a kfilereplace on the /etc/zypp/repos.d/ folder and changing all occurances of 11.3 to 11.4 (in all *repo, which are all the files in the folder). Will this work?

Jun 24, 2011I'm trying to make my USB bootable with the OpenSUSE 11.4 64 bit KDE iso image. When I open up SUSE Studio Image Writer (by following the Windows instructions here), it doesn't find the .iso image on my desktop. When I'm selecting the image, it's looking for a .raw file. Do I have to do some trickery to change the .iso image to a .raw?

...and since then my windows xp clients cannot follow a symbolic link to a common area from their home folders.
I have googled and tried to add follow symlinks and wide links to my homes share
[homes]
= Home Directories
browseable = no
follow symlinks = yes
wide links = yes
...but after restarting samba on the server and rebooting the windows machine the user still cannot follow the link.

May 27, 2011Until now I have been running a single threaded cpu at single channel speed but yesterday I bought a 3.2 gig p4 for 20 bucks. It has hyperthreading and an 800 mhz fsb which supports dual channel speeds on the chipset. It hasn't arrived yet so I haven't put it in the system but what I would like to know is whether 11.4 work properly with these changes, and will it detect and implement them properly or will I need to reinstall it?

Dec 6, 2010At my Uni, we use a web-based login for our internet connections. Its based off of Cisco, and every Wednesday night every computer on campus must re-enter their credentials to use the network.
Normally on my several computers I simply pull up the Terminal, point links to google.com using

And enter my credentials when Cisco redirects to the login page.
Literally, the process is

Then ENTER to accept the redirect, down arrow to skip over the logo image, USERNAME, ENTER, PASSWORD, ENTER, ENTER.
Naturally, this is EXTREMELY time consuming, as I have about 5 computers located around campus and must physically walk to the machines and login every single week.
My question is, How would I formulate a program that does the following;
1) checks for connectivity (i.e. is able to reach/resolve to the greater part of the internet) and
2) automatically fills in the credentials on the links login page?

but now that fckeditor is available for mediawiki (very beta), it has become much better to just stick with wikitext format. There are only a few conversions to do: tables, links, and bulleted lists. The lists are a fairly simple regex and fckeditor magically reformats the tables, so all I'm left with is the links. But I'm not a regex master. How do I reformat code...

May 26, 2011I intended to upgrade to fedora 15 but my old laptop only has 512mb so I have to stick with 14 (which is good anyway). I did this at the command line on the way the upgrade:
1)yum -y update
2)rpm --import http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...EY-fedora-i386
3)rpm -Uvh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...5-1.noarch.rpm http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...5-1.noarch.rpm
When I realised my error, I removed rpmfusion-free & nonfree, xfce-4.8.repo & virtualbox.repo which I had installed after installing 14.
Now I am stuck with the fedora 15 repos in /etc/yum.repos.d/: fedora-rawhide-repo, fedora-repo, fedora-updates.repo & fedora-updates-testing-repo

OpenSUSE :: YAST2 Very Slow To Refresh Repos
Feb 8, 2010When I start yast2 it seems to hang at around 50% (the lower progress bar) while refreshing the repositories. It can sit there for a minute before moving on. Once yast2 has started and I add / remove repos the refresh happens very quickly. It's only when starting that it gets stuck.
This is something that really only started after I upgraded to 11.2. In 11.1 the progress bar would move cross quickly and you could see the various repos flashing up above the progress bar. I didn't bother with it too much but it's starting to annoy me now. It also sometimes just hangs there permanently and I have to abort it.
I've tried unconditionally updating the yast stuff but it hasn't helped. My network connection is fine and I have now problems or speed issues with browsing the repo urls from a browser.

Sep 11, 2010Having assorted problems accessing v11.3 update repositories. The issue appears to be either with IPv6 or my ancient 2Wire 1000SW router.
Last week, I replaced Ubuntu with openSUSE on this Dell laptop. When I couldn't access repositories initially, I turned off IPv6 in YaST, with no luck. Turning off IPv6 in Firefox did allow me to see opensuse.org and other otherwise unavailable sites.
I edited my primary/default repo list in YaST with IP addresses replacing DNS names with great success -- except for the non-OSS repo, which YaST couldn't find. Anyway, I had a successful update!
Now adding repos to the default set is the problem. When going to Add > Community Repositories, I get the "Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined" message. Trying to add Packman.unixheads.com either with named URL or with IP address doesn't work either (it was curious that when using the IP address, YaST still says it can't find Packman.unixheads.com).
When I read that Packman was converting all its servers to IPv6, just for grins I went back to YaST and Enabled IPv6 again. After a reboot, I tried adding Packman again. No luck, but suddenly editing the default openSUSE non-oss repo and entering the IP address WORKED!
One more data point: I tried using a few 1-click installations from the collection at opensuse-community.org. Most failed, but for some reason, I could add the NVIDIA repository!
While I think the simple solution is probably replacing the router I've had since 2004, I'd like to avoid that particular expense right now. I'll note that I never had a problem accessing (K)Ubuntu repositories.
I'm wondering if there's a zypper or YaST config file I can edit that might allow access to the Community Repo list (though the Packman experience is somewhat discouraging in that regard). Is there something weird going on with MirrorBrain too? Figuring out how to handle IPv6 might be relevant here too.
Ubuntu :: Install Opera Latest From Repos / Options Do I Have?
May 24, 2010I am running Lucid in my Apple iBook of course powerpc architecture and due to firefox's cruel treat on my CPU, I want to install opera which I am told is a bit lightweiht and friendly on CPU.I tried sudo "apt-get install opera" and I got "the package opera does not have an installation candidate .... and so forth....", I visited the opera for powerpc download page and I couldn't see Ubuntu among the listed OS'ses. I am not sure what to do? Is their an option coz I love firefox but my iBook wont stand it without the 100% CPU usage.
