OpenSUSE :: Folder View Widget Not Working?
Jul 25, 2010So after installing 11.3 for some reason I cleared all the widgets off my desktop. When I add the folder view widget to the desktop again so I can see my desktop iconsthe widget doesn't show my icons unless I click on it and they drop down. Without clicking on it, the widget shows the desktop icon (similar to the "show desktop" icon)

Mar 14, 2009Mandriva 2009, BIND 9.5.0-P2. Named will start however I'm getting the above error as well as these:

Named shows to be running but with the errors above I know it's not running correctly. I also copied the above dir's over to /var/lib/named/var/lib/named which is where I 'believe' it's chroot'd at, though I could be wrong since I'm unfamiliar with chroot.

- edit the default "auto eth0" network profile
- create/edit system wide network profiles (wired, wireless, mobile broadband)
The networkmanager itself can do it, of course, since long. The GNOME/XFCE counterpart also used to work flawlessly since long.

Feb 8, 2011I'm always struggling with desktop space. Widgets like Folder View and the ability to use the multiple virtual desktops are very helpful for me. I found an article about the KDE Shelf widget which I would love to have as another organizational tool but I can't seem to find it.I am a bit of a newbie with KDE and with Linux in general but I have found and added many widgets with no problem. I have been using computers for about 16 years and I'm pretty tech savvy (but unfortunately my skills have all been learned through Windows and some with Mac in college).
When I go to Add Widgets and type "shelf" in the search withing openSUSE KDE I get no results. I also checked on kde-look.org and an overall Google search but I'm not having any luck.

Nov 11, 2010I use a Dell advanced port replicator at home and in the office. Each is connected to a second monitor. In neither place does the monitor actually receive a signal even though the monitor seems to be detected correctly in display settings. The function-F8 key does not have any visible effect.
Oh, almost forgot. At work once when I preparing to shut down the second monitor popped on for a few seconds though it was at the wrong resolution.

Apr 5, 2010I'm having some difficulties with the comic strip widget that I use to keep me updated on Dilbert. It started out in ok-ish size, a little small, but readable. Now the entire strip takes up 3x3 cm, totally unreadable. Is there anyway to fix that?

Jun 22, 2010I remember this was discussed some time ago but I cannot find the thread any more. I was just wondering if others are still seeing the same problem . I've had this all through 4.4.3 and now with 4.4.4. For some reason if only the logout or lock button is selected and placed on the far right of the panel then part of the button is chopped off. This only happens with the panel locked. If both buttons are selected then they display correctly. I also notice that when only one button is selected that it's size is slightly smaller than when both are selected. Also it only seems to be the logout/lock widget that has this problem.

Now when I boot up I get a pop up dialogue saying the login greeter widget is missing and to check my configuration. Clicking OK on the pop up drops me to the console login.

OpenSUSE :: KDE-new & Recent Devices-widget-bad Behavior After Optical PATA-SATA Swap
Feb 2, 2011openSUSE 11.3, 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop, KDE 4.4.x, 3.0-P4, 2.5g mem. I replaced PATA-OEM optical drive with SATA-OEM works fine with all apps outside of and except with this widget. No problems until the swap. I have performed some updates and I have not put the PATA drive back in to see if the behavior changed because it was failing. It could be an update but the optical drive swap is my first suspect. This now. If I hover cursor over notifier widget icon "last plugged in device" will pop up with accurate last device until a click on the widget icon and selection of action for the recently plugged in device. Selected actions work fine ... once.
Then it no longer updates the new or retains the previous DVD/CD (or any USB external drive when connected) entry. Closing after viewing but with out selecting an action results in an empty list also. The menu remains empty there after and only removal of the widget and reinstall makes the devices appear again ... once. Then the behavior repeats if the widget is removed and reinstalled. I was wondering if this is likely to be a udev/rules.d problem related to the swap of the optical drives? The 70-persistant-cd.rules file shows two cd's after the swap:

If I delete or rename the 70-persistant-cd.rules file in udev/rules.d will it truly be recreated at boot and might it this fix the issue? Should I look elsewhere first at some var logs for errors? Reinstall 11.3 and let auto detect and config sort it out is also and option but I'd rather not, heh.

Nov 20, 2010I'm looking for a powerful network traffic monitor that can do all of the following (or at least a combination of tools that can do the following):
Tell me how much data was downloaded/uploaded on an interface this month and the previous month tell me how the traffic was used throughout the monthshow which internal IPs (IPs in the 192.168.1.0/24 network) used how much traffic show which ports/protocols on those IPs used all that traffic
Hhow LIVE traffic flow statistics that can tell me total speed of traffic going through an interface as well asshow which internal IPs (IPs in the 192.168.1.0/24 network) are using how much of the traffic show which ports/protocols on those IPs are using that traffic
This tool will run on a linux router through which all my internal PCs are connected to the Internet. This means the tool(s) need to work with NAT (traffic being forwarded and not necessarily destined for the interfaced being monitored).
The distribution being run doesn't have a package manager so any packages or dependencies have to be manually compiled and SCPed over file by file. For this reason, the tool/tools need to be simple (things like vnstat, not things like ntop that have their own web interface).
I know that vnstat can tell me the first bullet point so it's only there incase there's a tool out there that can do everything. If there's a tool that can only do the second or third bullet point, that's great too - I'll just keep using vnstat and look for something else to do the other task.
OpenSUSE Install :: Box Is Being Named Automatically?
Feb 12, 2010We have a MS Windows domain in our school. Some time ago, when I was toying with an earlier version of Opensuse, I joined a box to our domain. I am trying 11.2 now, and my box is box is being named automatically, to what I named the previous box (which is long gone). I guess this is an issue with my Windows domain controller, but I'm not sure what to do about it. The domain controller is running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise.

Mar 1, 2010after the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?

Dec 8, 2010Under the settings for a specific zone is it possible using the 'Automatically Generate Records From Zone' option to update from two other different zones? Also, the 'Automatically Generate Records......' option, I can't seem to find where it exists in named.conf or other file. I have it checked in Yast but I can't find that option reflected in a config file - which I would assume it would have to be.... somewhere.
