View 3 RepliesMandriva 2009, BIND 9.5.0-P2. Named will start however I'm getting the above error as well as these:

Named shows to be running but with the errors above I know it's not running correctly. I also copied the above dir's over to /var/lib/named/var/lib/named which is where I 'believe' it's chroot'd at, though I could be wrong since I'm unfamiliar with chroot.
how do i remove it?

I am running opensuse 11.0 on Intel Quad computer. A month ago I have installed DNS service on it.
Since then I have a following problem - sometimes named starts eating 200% of CPU and that causes LAN to hang down. Everything goes normal after named restart.
I found a file in a directory named "." Not the "." indicating the directory but an actual file with content in it. This, as you can imagine is causing all sorts of problems. The problem is I can't figure out how to remove it. How would I remove a file named "." without deleting the entire current directory. Here is a listing just to show you:

You can see the directory (.) but you can also see the file owned by "user1" named "." of file size 2287. How would I remove this? (Running RHEL 4.6).
Under the settings for a specific zone is it possible using the 'Automatically Generate Records From Zone' option to update from two other different zones? Also, the 'Automatically Generate Records......' option, I can't seem to find where it exists in named.conf or other file. I have it checked in Yast but I can't find that option reflected in a config file - which I would assume it would have to be.... somewhere.

I'm using 11.2 GNOME for a while now..
As far as I know, GNOME can't act like MS or OSX when we wan't to rename a file..you know, when you slightly re click the file name and its ready to be renamed.. instead, I should go right click - context menu - rename to do that.
Is there any setting or apps for these?
I am currently using Windows Vista and Linux Ubuntu (I'm not 100% sure which version). However, whenever I start up my PC, I get greeted to the HP BIOS screen, and then after that, I get the Windows Bootloader. Now, this is where things get interesting:If, on the Windows Bootloader I select Microsoft Windows Vista, it loads Vista. If I select Ubuntu on the Windows Bootloader, I get treated to a second bootloader (I assume the Ubuntu Bootloader).I'm wanting to remove one of the bootloaders (keeping Vista as my primary OS, but still having access to Ubuntu in the bootloader). As a result of this, which bootloader should I remove, and how would I go about removing such bootloader?

Before inserting my usb-stick, i generally remove the usb-storage module driver by this command:
modprobe -r usb-storage
But after this command, i get an output saying that usb-storage is built in and cannot be removed.
Can anybody help me how to remove that module. It works well under ubuntu and Mandriva.
I have installed freeswitch app from opensuse 11.2 repositories. App got broken during the process/setup.., I have removed it (yast) ignoring some of it's dependencies, also I have removed folder /opt/freeswitch manually. In Yast it shows that app is still installed.. when trying to remove it, there is an error, force remove also out puts an error. "whereis" command shows no file, I was also trying to force install it one more time but it fails. Is there a was to delete it permanently?

I am new to linux and bash programming. I wrote a simple hello world program.
the code:
#!/bin/bash
echo hello world
but I can not run it by clicking on it.
The only way I ran it is using the terminal even after I check the is it executable box.
Do I need to add any commands to make it execute by just clicking on it?
I was copying an .avi file to an external hard drive and half way through the copy the drive reset and required remounting. Consequently I have an empty .avi file on the hard drive. I tried to recopy the file and overwrite, but I keep getting 'Could not write to media/harddrive/filename.avi'. I tried to rename to file to be copied but got the same response, I cannot delete the empty file either, as I get an error telling I cannot delete it. I have tried to do this as the user and root with the same result.Any other file I tried to copy onto the external hard drive is fine, just this one zero length file and the file I was trying to copy, the original of the file. I also tried to delete the file on another computer but couldn'tExternal hard drive is a WD elements ntfs, which works great except for this glitch.

It seems there is no option for cp as ls to handle entries started with dot

I cannot find it's meaning anywere... seems it's not in the redirection section.
