Just installed Kubuntu 10.10, configuring it now. The problem is, that I would like to use KMail, but I've got to import the settings, mailbox etc. I made a backup through Evolution, wich ended up as a .tar.gz. I tried to open it though the KMail backup program. But it just won't load the mails or lettings. It just doesn't work. I tried Evolution 1.x backup end Evolution 2.x backup. Both didn't work.

I just installed openSUSE 11.4 and want to import my public/private keys to use in Kmail. However, after a great deal of searching, I can't find a keyring manager. Is there one installed with 11.4, or do I have to add one and if so, which should I use?

I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
After reinstalling with Kubuntu 10.04 my e-mail addresses stored in Kontact don't show up in the list of e-mail addresses when choosing addresses in a new e-mail. When I open my addressbook I can see all addresses.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports?When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail.Here's the error in mail.log.

import mails and contacts from MSOutlook in windows to Thunderbird. It worked and even kept the folder hierarchy of the emails, as well as the contacts. My only task now is to find the /.evolution folder in ubuntu and past everything.
But was disappointed that thunderbird has no calendar, no ToDos and tasks so I'm wondering how could I import these great Outlook features into evolution, too.
I am using KMail 1.13.7, and receiving mail works fine, but sending mail via SMTP through Gmail doesn't work. When I try to send email it give me "Transport 'Gmail.com' is invalid". I have tried deleting the account and recreating it to no avail, and I even tried changing smtp.gmail.com to smtp.googlemail.com, with the exact same error.

Is it possible to import internet calendars to evolution or ubuntu in general?
My uni provides an ics feed url.
I know it's possible to import .ics files into evolution, but our timetables are updated daily so I would have to import a new .ics file everyday.
I'm running Evolution 2.28.3 on the latest Lucid. I tried importing an Outlook pst file. Evolution obviously leads one to believe it CAN do this, otherwise why would it allow one to choose a pst file, then recognize it as an Outlook file, and give one the option of choosing which portions to import (i.e. mail, contacts, calendar, etc)?
So the first time I chose mail, contacts, calendar, and tasks. It seems to have imported mail and calendar correctly, but NOTHING happened in tasks and contacts (contacts being very important). So I tried again, this time ONLY choosing to import contacts. It went through the whole pst file again. NO contacts still. While it seems not to have duplicated email messages the second go around (and it shouldn't have), it DID duplicate all calendar items (even though I ONLY checked "contacts"). UGH!
It's one thing for it not to have a capability, but to make a person believe it CAN import all those things, then screw it all up, ... well, that's highly irritating.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter running Pine remotely to view some mail on the server, I can no longer access those emails remotely with Evolution or Outlook Express. I know the mail is still there on the server someplace, because it still appears in Pine's "INBOX" folder. But that is clearly not the same as the "Inbox" folder for that account which appears in Evolution and Outlook Express, which is now empty. How can I configure Evolution to re-access those emails?

For example - if I am using kmail for the account me@email.net and I have something from an irc chat or IM I need to keep for future reference (instructions for something, contact info for someone, etc.) I open a new blank email in kmail, address it to myself, copy in the info and hit send, but the message never arrives. In the Import Assistant, the dropdown menu with all of the file types are grayed out, and whenever I select the .PST file to import, the Forward button is grayed out as well. Has anyone come across the problem before? I tried reinstalling Evolution, but that didn't have any effect on it. Still got the same problem.

Yesterday I received a mail from LQ informing me about a reply to a thread named "operating system linux".
I am not able to open, delete, edit that mail.
I have started using Evolution because I gave up tying to get Thunderbird or Eudora work. I kept getting "unable to locate mail spool file" when trying to receive mail. I was able to import my mailboxes from my Windows Eudora. But in those mailboxes, about half of those emails had the headers but no body text. What is causing this and can it be fixed.
More importantly tho', when I import my contacts from Eudora, they are a mess, and pretty much unusable. I see a series of rectangles with "alias" on top and "real name" underneath and then when I click on it, expanded below is the alias and email address. There are two of these alias/names per rectangle and they scroll across. Any idea how I can fix that other than manually typing in each address.

I've imported my contacts in adressbook and I can see them in Kontact - Adresses. But when I compose a new mail, I can't select any of my contacts. There is a combobox to select between following choices:
All
Default Adress book
Distribution list
recent adresses
Selected adresses
But none of these options shows the contacts I have imported. And I can't find an option to make my imported adress book the default adress book.
I like to import mails from Evolution 2.28.3 into Mozilla Thunderbird 3.x. I guess I'll have to export them into mbox format. Correct ?
