After reinstalling with Kubuntu 10.04 my e-mail addresses stored in Kontact don't show up in the list of e-mail addresses when choosing addresses in a new e-mail. When I open my addressbook I can see all addresses.
View 2 RepliesI am using Kontact for mailing (with 'build-in' kmail), scheduling etc. I can fill a contact list manually in Kontact which is accessible when I am composing an email. Manually filling is quite time-consuming so I would like to know whether it is possible to one (or both) of the following things:
1) save your Kmail 'recent addresses' list to 'Contacts'
2) save emailadresses in incoming mail to 'Contacs'
[EDIT] I don't think it really matters but I am using OpenSUSE 11.1 at my office and Kubuntu 10.04 at home. My question is for both OSs
Just installed Kubuntu 10.10, configuring it now. The problem is, that I would like to use KMail, but I've got to import the settings, mailbox etc. I made a backup through Evolution, wich ended up as a .tar.gz. I tried to open it though the KMail backup program. But it just won't load the mails or lettings. It just doesn't work. I tried Evolution 1.x backup end Evolution 2.x backup. Both didn't work.

When I try to send email it give me "Transport 'Gmail.com' is invalid". I have tried deleting the account and recreating it to no avail, and I even tried changing smtp.gmail.com to smtp.googlemail.com, with the exact same error.

For example - if I am using kmail for the account me@email.net and I have something from an irc chat or IM I need to keep for future reference (instructions for something, contact info for someone, etc.) I open a new blank email in kmail, address it to myself, copy in the info and hit send, but the message never arrives. I have previously used this method with Thunderbird and Evolution and it works in both of them just fine but does not ever work in kmail.

I've imported my contacts in adressbook and I can see them in Kontact - Adresses. But when I compose a new mail, I can't select any of my contacts. There is a combobox to select between following choices:
All
Default Adress book
Distribution list
recent adresses
Selected adresses
But none of these options shows the contacts I have imported. And I can't find an option to make my imported adress book the default adress book.
How might one restore raw evolution data/mail/addresses from the .evolution folder located in the /home/username directory?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two nagging problems on one network which I do not have on another elsewhere, both using uptodate Debian servers. The server is on the private subnet behind a router/adsl modem. The symptoms of the one which does not work
1) Users cannot access their web site from lan. If they try, they get to the router web interface, same as if they entered http:10.0.0.138 which is the router's lan address.
2) Users cannot access smtp or pop3 service using the domain name, they can access it only using the servers LAN address.
I fear that I might have not set up the router properly because appart from that the two servers are almost identical but I do not know where I might have made an error.
I have a sendmail alias configured to forward mails to pagers and it was working fine . The mail relays suddenly start converting a mail address of pager into a normal mail(outlook) format address. Say , instead of forwarding a mail to [URL] Provided no configuration inside the mail directory was changed.Which file is responsible in converting the mail-addresses? View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is the current setup that we have: We have approx 20 clients who pay us to send out a type of e-mail called an E-Blast to their customers. We currently are using 5 Microsoft Windows Virtual Servers to do this. The problem is that those machines are starting to break down. There are times that it will take Microsoft Windows approx 9-10 hours to complete 1 job. This is way too long. We want to move away from Microsoft Windows for this particular type of job as it seems there are more customers who are wanting to use this type of advertising.
It seems that using a Linux Server "Command Line or Shell" environment would be the best way to go as there is no GUI like Windows. Since there is just text...that is something that would/should process very, very quickly.
I am in the process of setting up a new SMTP outbound mail server. This is the current software & configuration (what is installed on this new machine):
All of the customer data (Names, E-Mail Addresses, etc that these e-mails are going to) are currently loaded in a Microsoft SQL Database.
My machine that I am using is plugged into the DMZ. I have 1 ip address for the 1 network card. I have also added/bound 4 more ip addresses to that network card.
I have configured Postfix for Multiple IP Addresses.
I can, from the command line, send successful test e-mails and receive them in my personal account.
As far as I know everything is setup correctly. I can and will post requested information so that it can be verified that everything is setup correctly.
Here are a couple of my questions:
Ensure that I have my Network / Interfaces file and my Postfix's Master.cf/Main.cf files setup correctly?
How can I setup this server to be an Outbound SMTP server and get it to use all 5 of the IP Addresses to send these e-mails quickly?
What can I use to check and ensure that this server is in fact sending out emails on all 5 IP
Addresses (I heard that there is a program named "Postal" that may help in determing this).
Mail going to invalid email addresses are being forwarded to postmaster@domain instead of being bounced. How can I fix this? postconf -d | grep mail_version gives the following: mail_version = 2.2.5

I've imported a vcard addressbook in kontact. When I create a new mail and start typing something in the "to" input field, no contacts are automatically added. When I click the "select" button, nothing is found, except for the recently added email addresses. Nothing from my imported addressbook though.
This also didn't work in opensuse 11.3 KDE. Am I doing something wrong here?
I have been using kmail on opensuse (11.2) for about 3 months with few issues. I usually launch using alt+F2, type "kma" and it appears top of the list. I have turned on my laptop today and kmail has simply disappeared. I have gone through the ghekko and the only mail client listed is thunderbird. It is not in the alt+F2 menu. If I type kmail in konsole I get the "if kmail is not a typo" speech. I've also tried using kontact (for the first time) to see if my mail appears there

Mail appear in the Sent folder of Squirrelmail However, the INBOX was still showing no messages when i logged in to the server, i see that mail was delivered in var/mail/info (my username). so, my question is: why mail gets delivered to var/mail and var/spool and squirrelmail is not pickiing it up?

I have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports?When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? Our primary mail server is Exchange 2003 Standard on Windows Server 2003 Standard - don't shout at me; I inherited it already set up this way.I have a couple of hardware identical redundant servers (HP ML350 boxes), all with very fast 2 or 4 disk arrays, multiple core CPUs and plenty of memory, and I am looking at two potential new additions to the infrastructure.
A secondary mail server is high on my list of priories. I've been well and truly bitten by Exchange in the past and given that this particular box has been running four years straight and that it's mail store is dangerously large, having a secondary mail server in place suddenly makes a lot of sense.
A new Exchange 2010 box is currently being set up, but the secondary mail server will remain in place even when the new Exchange server is brought online, so this won't be a wasted exercise.... I also want a gateway box in place to filter and relay mail to the primary server, or to the secondary server if the primary is unavailable. Currently our outer perimeter is:

Untangle running in bridged mode (primarily used for SPAM filtering, URL blacklisting, and very little else) Exchange 2003 sits behind the Untangle box. This is how I want to end up:
CISCO >> Draytek >> Ubuntu gateway >> Exchange/secondary mail server
I know I could replace/remove the Draytek but I want it to remain for several reasons, including lots of VPN dial-in users already configured and that it offers us an additional layer of email antivirus scanning before things hit the Exchange box. No point switching all of our remote workers over to new tunnels unnecessarily...
I have done some research and have started testing a pilot secondary mail server using Ubuntu/postfix DNS is properly set up and MX records and reverse PTR records are all present and correct, and things are looking encouraging so far. Running 9.04 with Kmail 1.12.2 with KDE 4.3. Akonadi is activated. Everything works except I cannot email to a distribution list. Am using POP3 with SMPTE. Comes back with

So I unchecked the default-domain inside my sending option for SMPTE and same thing.
Is there a manual switch or setting in kmailrc? I looked and didn't see anything. Doing the same thing on 3 different computers. Tried searching the net but couldn't find anything.
