how to make KMail download all messages, new and old?
I have an email client on my android phone as well as KMail on this computer. Its important for me to be able to see all my old messages for reference.
Since yesterday Kmail has started downloading ALL ,messages, not just the new ones, from the server. It is a real pain as the mail check takes about twenty minutes and Kmail usually freezes afterwards. Then I have to close it down and after restart it downloads several thousand messages all over again. This has only started happening since yesterdays Fedora update, which I think was anything to do with Kmail?
I am using Fedora 14.
EDIT: I have just notice it is not downloading ALL messages, just the read ones. The new messages are being left on the server but the old ones are downloaded and flagged as new. So it seems as if something has got flipped around somewhere?
I have around 6 email accounts for business & private use that I retrieve and send via pop/smtp with Kmail (Version 1.11.4). But it seems that all my outgoing mail is only sent via one account (say first@gmail.com) even if I select another account for the outgoing I.D field and FROM field. When I look in the sent folder the headers shows the correct sent from account but my recipients headers show they were all sent from first@gmail.com! Ebay keeps bouncing my emails back too as a result saying the email is not registered. It used to work just fine so not sure what is happening. I have tried reinstalling Kmail/kdepim-4.2.4-x86_64-1.txz deleted all the accounts and recreated them but the problem persists.
I have been using kmail on opensuse (11.2) for about 3 months with few issues. I usually launch using alt+F2, type "kma" and it appears top of the list. I have turned on my laptop today and kmail has simply disappeared. I have gone through the ghekko and the only mail client listed is thunderbird. It is not in the alt+F2 menu. If I type kmail in konsole I get the "if kmail is not a typo" speech. I've also tried using kontact (for the first time) to see if my mail appears there
I try to use kmail with my Gmail IMAP. The "IMAP" account type in Kmail work fine, but having to download an email each time I want to read it is annoying.
So I switch to disconnect IMAP. But the first time I open a folder in disconnected IMAP, I have to wait for it to download ALL email in that folder. This would take forever since I have more than 3GB of mails.
So is there a way to config Kmail imap to do one of the following:
1 - Download and cache only the message I've chosen to read.
2 - Only download and cache message newer than a point of time of my choosing (eg: Cache mail from two months ago only)
3 - Only download and cache newest message up to a fix size (eg: Keep a cache of 50MB of newest mail)
Why is it that I kept getting error messages that basically were saying that could not connect to the Ubuntu servers to do download of updates to Ubuntu that is until I switched to the MAIN ubuntu server at which point it worked fine.I tried several of the Ubuntu servers other than the MAIN server and kept getting error messages. Is there some problem with those other servers ?
Any way to get my sent messages out of gmail into my thunderbird. Right now it's getting my incoming messages perfectly using POP but I'm not syncing to my sent messages which is an issue because I have a lot of important stuff in my sent mail inside of gmail. Before I had it all in thunderbird (don't remember how) but I decided to try thunderbird 3 (couldn't keep it because calendar kept screwing up) so I downgraded and now I can't get those messages to show up again. I checked gmail and those sent messages are still there.
I am looking for a mail app that will do this.I have a gmail account.I would like it to download the messages. but leave a copy on the server.i know some will delete the server messages.i would like to not bring down attachments, ever.i would like to only sync certain folders/labels from my gmail account.will evolution do this?i could not find options for any of these.
Finally I got success in setting up of CDMA USB modem but I could not access the internet or browse the internet. I can only download message and send messages using through evolution. But can browse internet.
At last, I am serious converting from openSUSE/KDE3.5 to openSUSE 11.2/KDE 4. Being a bit retarded in this, the following must have been solved by many.
After starting Kmail in KDE 4 I managed to see all my mails. I also managed to get my filters moved from old to new (had to go back to 3.5 to export them first).
But I still fail to see how to copy my accounts/identities, etc. It is not done automaticaly, there is no export function I could find. How to manage this?
EDIT: must be 3.5 in the title. Done by a nice mod.
On my OpenSuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.5, when I launch kmail for the first time it does not start. I have to re-launch it to get it running. By launching it from the command line, I get the message:
[code]...
I find all this quite annoying. What could be the solution?
I have setup different identities in Kmail to deal with multiple gmail accounts so I have a different set of inbox, sent mail and draft folder for each account. In the message layout, I have chosen to display the columns - subject,sender/receiver and date. For one of my email accounts, kmail does the job perfectly. The inbox foler shows subject, sender and date, whereas the sent-mail folder shows subject, receiver and date. However, this order is not maintained for my other email accounts. The inbox folders show subject, sender and date(which is correct); the sent-mail folder shows subject, sender and date - instead of subject, receiver and date which is what should be displayed.
can KMail be configured to have two different accounts and keep one tree of folders for each, like Seamonkey?

I can create groups, but when I send an e-mail to one of these groups it is sent to group_name@localhost, which, obviously, is not what I want. Some versions back this worked perfectly, but now it seems that there is no way.
I just installed openSUSE 11.4 and want to import my public/private keys to use in Kmail. However, after a great deal of searching, I can't find a keyring manager. Is there one installed with 11.4, or do I have to add one and if so, which should I use?
In my recently installed openSUSE 11.4 system I am using Kwallet to store all of my private passwords and also those associated with my Kmail accounts. All of these passwords appear correctly in Kwallet, but it seems there is a problem with Kmail accessing them.Whenever I start a new session, Kmail loads first and is followed by Kwallet. When Kmail then tries to do its first mail retrieval it stops and asks for the account password. I type this in and then Kwallet requests its administrator password. Once I type this in, my mail is downloaded and I get no further request for the passwords during that session.
The same thing happens when I attempt to send my first email of the day. I get a Kmail request for the SMTP account password. I've tried changing the Kwallet settings so that it doesn't close when unused for a period,or when the screensaver kicks in, but this (predictably) has no effect. In the Access Control screen, both KDE Wallet Manager and Kontact are shown as 'Always Allow' and I can see no other settings in either Kwallet or Kmail which are relevant to the problem. My guess is that the problem occurs because Kmail starts up ahead of Kwallet and therefore doesn't load the passwords initially. But that may be a red herring as I'm not familiar with the way Kmail and Kwallet interact.
I am now using SuSE 11.1 with KMail 1.9.10 (KDE 3.5.10 "release 21.13.1" open SUSE). My intention is to do a clean install of 11.4 from purchased DVD and then migrate (import) all of my personal files from a backup. I have not yet seen either SuSE 11.4 or KDE4, so I am unfamiliar with any changes to the folders and files, how they may have been named, where they're located in 11.4, etc. Inoder to copy my backed up KDE 3.5 KMail into the newly installed SuSE 11.4/KDE4 KMail, will the following folders and files go into folders and files named the same in 11.4/KDE4, or will the folders and files for the new KMail be named differently and/or be located differently?
Are there any issues I need to be aware of in migrating the KDE 3.5 Kmail materials into 11.4/KDE4? Or will this be as simple as when I upgraded from 11.0 to 11.1?
If I manually add an email address, it will appear in the recent address's list. How can I edit this list so that I can add them to my contacts. KDE 4.3.5, KMail 1.12.4
I just installed my version of 11.2 and am slowly setting up the software I need to make my Windows box an expensive paperweight. I recently set up my KMail to receive mail on my POP3 acct. I only recently had reason to send an email to myself at work to remind me to do something. When I hit send this is what I got:
[code]...
And it was in the clear. hmmmm. Is this how KMail sends it's authentication string? I have never really looked at SMTP or POP packets so maybe they all send them like this but I was a bit shocked when it came up like that. What if someone had been looking over my shoulder?
I installed openSUSE on one of the spare computers in work to test it out before I install it on my own laptop. I tried connecting Kmail to MS exchange and did so successfully using POP 3 but never checked the box saying leave messages on the server and it removed the emails from the server. Now I have nothing in my Outlook Inbox on my XP machine. how I can restore the emails from Kmail to the server.
I need help with my K mail I set everything up correctly but it does not send nor recieve email to my kmail. I however did recieve my email to my windows base email through charter internet but not through K mail can
I use my university email account and i want to save a backup of my sent emails in other account (gmail). So, is there any way to configure kmail to send automatically a BCC to my gmail account everytime i send an email, i mean, without having to write it everytime cause i forgot to do it sometimes.
in Kmail 2.0.89 and the 2 or 3 versions before that, I have been lost theability to make a new subfolder under the category "KMail_Folders". I canonly make sub-subfolder under any existent one.The Add Folder entry in the menu is greyed when I am in the KMail Folders level. Is that a bug or a feature? (I hope is not the latter...)
I updated yesterday. Main change was from kde 4.5 to 4.6. Since then when I start kmail I have always a message about the certificate not applying to the given host. I use kmail to connect to a dovecot imap server. Everything worked fine before. I know very little about certificates. I tried to generate again the certificates (running /usr/share/doc/packages/dovecot/mkcert.sh) but I don't know what else to do.
