OpenSUSE :: Xkilled Taskbar - Konsole Command Not Recognized
Mar 22, 2011
I xkill'ed my task bar - so now it's gone. I tried to run kicker from the konsole, but that command is not recognized. I have about a million applications running/open, so I really don't want to log out.
In Windows 7 when you hover over an open application in the taskbar, it shows a small image of that application. Is there a way this can be done in Linux?
How do I run application as root, without using Konsole?Sometimes I wish to start task manager on system level, but I dont want to use console. I wish to know how, from KDE4 logged as user, run app as root.
Konsole (when in root) fails to start up after it is used once (i.e., opened, work performed, closed/terminated). Bouncing cursor does its thing on second and subsequent uses, but times out normally and Konsole window never appears. Stock install from DVD.
Got a problem with fonts in 'Konsole'-windows. 'Bold' fonts are being cut off at the last letter. Sometimes only half the letter is visible, sometimes the letter is completely invisible. No problems with fonts in xterm. Set the standards in '/etc/DIR_COLORS', but the problem still exists in (for example):
- man-pages (headings) - perldoc (headings) - vi (infos at bottom, like -- INSERT --) - ...
Is there a solution to turn off bold fonts in Konsole completely? Would be my favourite! I'm using OpenSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.4.4 "release 2"...
I've install virtualbox and got it working. In KDE, the normal Alt-F2 -> virtualbox will start virtualbox. However, when I login to openbox or fluxbox, I am unable to get virtualbox started.Curious, re-login into KDE and virtualbox can be started as normal. However, in konsole, when I try to locate virtualbox, I am unable to locate it.Any idea how to locate and start virtualbox in fluxbox, openbox?
I notice that in 11.4 when I try to autocomplete (Tab Key) to /etc or /etc/init.d/ it auto completes differently than the way it did in other 11.x openSUSE versions. i.e. Code: sudo /et Then hit tab; it auto completes to /etc (space on the end of it)
Also, Code: sudo /etc/init. Then hit tab; it auto completes to /etc/init.d (space on the end of it)
If I simply try: Code: /et Then hit tab; it auto completes properly to /etc/
I have been installed opensuse 11.1 from CD. I upgrade KDE 4.1.3 to KDE 4.2.4.Problem: tab "Socks" in Network Configuration disappear.ImageShackHow can I return it? Or how can I turn on socks client from konsole? (i need dante client). If I install it - it will not turn on automatically
Although they are installed in /usr/share/fonts/misc, correctly scaled and aliased, jmk Neep bitmap fonts produce garbage in KDE konsole (available in the font list but obviously not found). They work great in Gnome, XFCE and any other X terminal (except maybe LXDE terminal !?). They are OK in openSUSE 11.2 and other Linux distros (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc).
Whenever I open a Konsole via the control panel widget the font in the console window is Monospace 8. Increasing the font via settings remains in place only for the time the window is active. When opening Konsole again the font is set to tiny Monospace 8 again. I have checked the settings in the *.profile files in ~ /.kde4/share/apps/konsole. They all contain my preferred font. Still, Monospace 8 comes up. Where else should I look. I have checked all *.rc files too, that are related to konsole.
Just patching my PC until I get a new one next year. My Yast is a trainwreck. Not very good at working with the terminal. Here is a screen shot of some commands I copy and pasted from another forum. I have flash unzipped on my desktop. /home/sam/desktop the extracted file is called libflashplayer.so
sam@linux-kzhj:~> rpm -qa | grep flash flash-plugin-10.0.45.2-release flash-player-9.0.115.0-0.1 sam@linux-kzhj:~> install install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz2 install: missing destination file operand after 'install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz2' Try `install --help' for more information. sam@linux-kzhj:~>
I was told to install as a regular user and not as root. I am running firefox(old) and opera browsers.
This problem has been bugging me since KDE4 starting shipping. In konsole, if you use the default black on white profile, and you start Midnight Commander, the color of the MC screen is the default blue color it has always been. However, if you change to the green on black profile, which is the one that I prefer, and you start MC, the blue changes to some unreadable light robin egg blue which is horrid.
I'm making a huge assumption here, but it looks like something is off with the green on black profile in Konsole. Try it yourself and you will see what I mean. This only started with KDE4, but it still persists through every version to current.
Just had a weird problem in konsole at the command line. Some of my keys are not recognized as if they are not being pushed. They work fine in other applications and work fine if I push the Shift key with it and capitalize the letter. Some of the keys are the c, g, r, w, 3, 8,and 9. C, G, R, W, #, *, and ( all work so I do not believe it is hardware as I am using this computer to type this message. It is just at the command line. I don't know what I did to make this happen or how to fix it. I am using openSUSE 11.3 with the KDE 4.4.4 release 3. I tried reinstalling xterm and konsole from yast but it did not fix it.
using konqueror/dolphin to connect to my desktop and the connection is okay.fish://userone@192.168.1.101:12345 out of curiosity, in konsole typedssh userone@192.168.1.101:12345 and got and error messagessh: Could not resolve hostname 192.168.1.101:12345: Name or service not known Googled and got more confused
I just switched to OpenSUSE/KDE4 from Ubuntu/Gnome2. Overall, I am very pleased. However, I have an issue that I have been unable to resolve. That is, Firefox, Thunderbird and Konsole Terminal do not have maximize buttons in their titlebars and there is not any other way to maximize these windows. Also, if I right click on the task manager tab for those applications then the "Maximize" menu item in the context menu is grayed out so it is inaccessible too. The bottom line is that there is no way to maximize these windows. All other applications, such as Dolphin, Chromium, Konqurer, LibreOffice, etc. have maximize buttons and a "maximize" menu item in their task manager context menus. Then, why don't Firefox, Thunderbird and Konsole also have maximize buttons? I am using the Oxygen theme and have configured the buttons on the Oxygen theme to include the Maximize button.
As exposed in a previous thread : 11.3 64b nvidia kde4 : font color bug in konsole I have a problem in the konsole terminal . I chose the Fixed [misc] font and i want the size 3. But for some unknown reasons konsole wants to display some chracaters and some words in bold . As This font doesn't exist in size 3 in bold, it displays the bold characters in size 7, which is the smallest available bold size for this font set (Fixed [Misc]) . It makes any of these bold characters unreadable as they are too large compared to the room they have to be displayed. How can i prevent konsole , bash , htop or any program responsible for this behaviour, to display such bold character ?
I used the alias command to make ll be ll -lrt. I have linux 5 and using the bash shell. now I can't even use ll, only ls. when I go into the bin directory, ll is not in the list and the normal color codes for bash are not showing either...folders blue, etc
I'm running 11.4 with KDE 4.6 on a dual-monitor system. I cannot, for the life of me, get the taskbar to appear at the bottom of my main display (the laptop display).I've tried to add the taskbar, system tray etc, but these appear as widgets on the desktop, rather than along the bottom of the display.
This is a new clean install and I must have done something wrong here. Sorry for the huge image I know I shold be able to see the clock in the taskbar and that black and white in the panel shouldn't be there. What do I do?
I am trying to install the Broadcom wireless driver BCM4311 on my Acer Extensa 5420. I have consulted several help forums and tried several suggested ways of doing it. They all seem to require using b43-fwcutter, and my Ubuntu 10.10 installation always refuses to fetch it from the installation disk. The most straight-forward approach I have tried is as follows:
1. From the console, I type: sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
2. The command works for a while, then responds by asking me put the disc labelled " Ubuntu 10.10_Maverick Meerkat_ - Release i386 (20101007)" into the CD-ROM drive and press ENTER.
3. I insert the installation disc containing the installation program that I downloaded from the Ubuntu web site into the drive and press ENTER, but just get the same request again.
The file on the installation disc is named "Ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso", and the disk does not have a label. I have tried renaming the installation file with the intention of burning a new disc that would be recognized, but the name being requested is not a valid file name for Windows (so I can't do it on a Windows machine), and it also seems to be inappropriate for Ubuntu (it has spaces and may be too long). I also tried keeping the same file name and burning a disc with the requested label, but the burning software would not accept such a long label.
I am hitting a wall here - with the new 4.4 installed and working well, the one thing that is killing me is not being able to read the active taskbar item or the plasma peanut menu (see screenshot. You can see that the firefox and gimp are "active" and too dark to read, while kwrite is inactive and readable. They are BOTH too dark, and I cannot seem to find the option that controls those color elements.
I have openSuse 11.2 with KDE 4.3.1 desktop. I accidentally closed my taskbar and now I can't get it to reappear. I already tried to run kicker (Alt + F2), but that didn't work.
