Although they are installed in /usr/share/fonts/misc, correctly scaled and aliased, jmk Neep bitmap fonts produce garbage in KDE konsole (available in the font list but obviously not found). They work great in Gnome, XFCE and any other X terminal (except maybe LXDE terminal !?). They are OK in openSUSE 11.2 and other Linux distros (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc).
View 4 RepliesGot a problem with fonts in 'Konsole'-windows. 'Bold' fonts are being cut off at the last letter. Sometimes only half the letter is visible, sometimes the letter is completely invisible. No problems with fonts in xterm. Set the standards in '/etc/DIR_COLORS', but the problem still exists in (for example):
- man-pages (headings)
- perldoc (headings)
- vi (infos at bottom, like -- INSERT --)
- ...
Is there a solution to turn off bold fonts in Konsole completely? Would be my favourite! I'm using OpenSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.4.4 "release 2"...
I'm having difficulty enabling X11 bitmap fonts for GTK apps in F13. From all I've read on this forum and elsewhere on the Internet, this normally just requires symlinking 70-yes-bitmaps.conf into /etc/fonts/conf.d, but I can't get this to work properly.
X11 bitmap fonts are available to X11. I have them working in xterms, but no GTK applications.
What I've tried so far:
- Symlinked /etc/fonts/conf.avail/70-yes-bitmaps.conf to /etc/fonts/conf.d
Manually added font path to xorg.conf to force it to be picked up:

I'm a newbie Linux user and would like to know how to get bitmap fonts in WMFS' taskbar without anti-aliasing.
So I guess what I want in simple terms is to get blurry fonts like this to become clean and sharp like this.
I was guessing that it had something to do with .fonts.conf and tried out a lot of different font configurations that I found online.
In Firefox 3.6 on Ubuntu 9.10, certain sites seem to use bitmap fonts for any fixed-width fonts, but only at specific zoom levels. This site and other Stack Exchange sites are among the affected sites, and of course the default zoom level is affected. At unaffected zoom levels, I get the expected smooth curvy fonts. How can I make Firefox use the nice curvy smooth fonts at all zoom levels?

I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.
I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost
How do I run application as root, without using Konsole?Sometimes I wish to start task manager on system level, but I dont want to use console. I wish to know how, from KDE4 logged as user, run app as root.

I'm trying to install the new version of hplip and the process stops with an error message stating there is no network access.
I tried to ping a known address and sure enough, no response.
I shut off the firewall on this machine. I shut off the firewall on my router. No access from Konsole.
Is there some setting I can't find?
Konsole (when in root) fails to start up after it is used once (i.e., opened, work performed, closed/terminated). Bouncing cursor does its thing on second and subsequent uses, but times out normally and Konsole window never appears. Stock install from DVD.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I open a Konsole via the control panel widget the font in the console window is Monospace 8. Increasing the font via settings remains in place only for the time the window is active. When opening Konsole again the font is set to tiny Monospace 8 again. I have checked the settings in the *.profile files in ~ /.kde4/share/apps/konsole. They all contain my preferred font. Still, Monospace 8 comes up. Where else should I look. I have checked all *.rc files too, that are related to konsole.

This problem has been bugging me since KDE4 starting shipping. In konsole, if you use the default black on white profile, and you start Midnight Commander, the color of the MC screen is the default blue color it has always been. However, if you change to the green on black profile, which is the one that I prefer, and you start MC, the blue changes to some unreadable light robin egg blue which is horrid.
I'm making a huge assumption here, but it looks like something is off with the green on black profile in Konsole. Try it yourself and you will see what I mean. This only started with KDE4, but it still persists through every version to current.
I xkill'ed my task bar - so now it's gone. I tried to run kicker from the konsole, but that command is not recognized. I have about a million applications running/open, so I really don't want to log out.

Just had a weird problem in konsole at the command line. Some of my keys are not recognized as if they are not being pushed. They work fine in other applications and work fine if I push the Shift key with it and capitalize the letter. Some of the keys are the c, g, r, w, 3, 8,and 9. C, G, R, W, #, *, and ( all work so I do not believe it is hardware as I am using this computer to type this message. It is just at the command line. I don't know what I did to make this happen or how to fix it. I am using openSUSE 11.3 with the KDE 4.4.4 release 3. I tried reinstalling xterm and konsole from yast but it did not fix it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedEver since installing 10.04 my fonts won't work. I've installed MS True Type every possible way I can and they still won't work.
After installing they seem fine in all applications, except on the internet. Both FF and Chrome can't seem to read (MSTT) fonts, at all. Every website I open fonts are displayed the same as before I install MS True Type.
I just switched to OpenSUSE/KDE4 from Ubuntu/Gnome2. Overall, I am very pleased. However, I have an issue that I have been unable to resolve. That is, Firefox, Thunderbird and Konsole Terminal do not have maximize buttons in their titlebars and there is not any other way to maximize these windows. Also, if I right click on the task manager tab for those applications then the "Maximize" menu item in the context menu is grayed out so it is inaccessible too. The bottom line is that there is no way to maximize these windows. All other applications, such as Dolphin, Chromium, Konqurer, LibreOffice, etc. have maximize buttons and a "maximize" menu item in their task manager context menus. Then, why don't Firefox, Thunderbird and Konsole also have maximize buttons? I am using the Oxygen theme and have configured the buttons on the Oxygen theme to include the Maximize button.

I chose the Fixed [misc] font and i want the size 3. But for some unknown reasons konsole wants to display some chracaters and some words in bold . As This font doesn't exist in size 3 in bold, it displays the bold characters in size 7, which is the smallest available bold size for this font set (Fixed [Misc]) . It makes any of these bold characters unreadable as they are too large compared to the room they have to be displayed. How can i prevent konsole , bash , htop or any program responsible for this behaviour, to display such bold character ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed xubuntu 10.10 on my old eeepc and as usual I have problems with windows-"thing". The mic does not work with Skype and im not going so spend more time fixing it. Samba only works with manual mount so i will write a script and maybe this can be integrated in Thunar. Adobe Flash 10 only works sometimes. And of course im missing some fonts. I moved from MS to not have MS problems(or closed source problems) and i cant escape. Skype and Adobe flash are really some real shit in a technical view but they have the market. Thats the problem.
