OpenSUSE Wireless :: Device Is An Integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card

Dec 25, 2009

My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

[Code]...

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.

Fedora :: Broadcom WLAN Wireless Driver Fedora Core 11

Aug 26, 2009

Okay I posted about this a while ago, and i got my wired network to work, but now i need my wireless card driver to work. I have been doing research and I found something called ndiswrapper which drivers from windows working in linux. I typed in lspci in the terminal and it gave me my specs of my wireless card which is a:
-Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)

-Some people said there is no original driver for this card, so you need to use ndiswrapper, I was wondering does anybody know what this is, how do i use this, and help me out to get my wireless card going. If you give me instructions, please be really specific as I am really new and still getting the hang of commands.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Not Working \ When Click On Networking Panel, It Says WLAN Interface Is Unavailable?

Jul 8, 2011

I have just installed openSuse 11.4 KDE 64-bit on a Dell M1330. When I click on my networking panel, it says WLAN interface is unavailable. I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. The results of the sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan command produce the following:

root's password:
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

Networking :: Fail To Connect To WLAN With Realtek 8172 Device

Nov 9, 2010

I have a ThinkPad x100e with a wireless card.Code:03:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device 8172 (rev 10)my problem is that I can't connect to my wireless network with Gentoo. I've been running Slackware64-13.1 on this computer and now have Windows 7, Ubuntu and Gentoo installed. Slackware, Ubuntu as well as Windows 7 connect to the wlan without problems. I'm using the driver rtl8192se, the module is loaded r8192se_pci and is the same with Slackware and Ubuntu.

I've read many posts and found that other people experience problems with Realtek wlandevices as well. But I have no Idea how to get connected with Gentoo at my wlan. It looks like that the netbook is connected for a very short time, but when dhcpcd broadcasts for a lease the connection is already closed.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Error "SET Failed On Device Wlan0 ; Operation Not Supported' When Configuring D-Link Wlan Card

Nov 15, 2009

I have a desktop that has a d-link DWL-520 wireless card, which was working under Windoze. Today I installed Centos 5.4 on the system , which went cleanly. I then used Network Configuration to set up the wireless card. I specified to use DHCP, set the SSID and authentication password. When I tried to activate the card I get these error messages

Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06): SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported. Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A): SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument. Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A): SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument. Determining IP information for wlan0.

The hardware manager seems to have correctly identified the card and chipset, (Intersil Prism 2.5) and installed driver hostap_pci which came with the distro. This web site seems to suggest that this is the correct driver: [URL] searching forums I've found a few references to these errors, but they were from several years ago, and for different distros and cards. I did find a reference to using Network Manager to configure the card instead of Network Configuration. I started the NM service and configured a connection using it instead, but still no luck.

Ubuntu Installation :: Device Does Not Show Up In The Wireless Settings Box?

Jul 15, 2011

After cleaning up my son's Vista desktop and backing it up, I installed 11.04 alongside Vista.

Issue #1:

Using the Ubuntu Requirements Guide, which says a minimum of 5GB is needed, I went ahead and allocated 15GB, to be safe and allow for future growth. But when it boots, I get this message:

This Computer has only 244.6 MB of disk space remaining

Ubuntu confirms that the installation took up 13+GB of space. Why is this, and how do I correct it? I would be fine with deleting the partition and starting over, but do not want to damage his Vista installation.

I don't understand why these space requirements aren't explained better or even consistent between different official Ubuntu sources. Here's one for 11.04 that specifies that "You must have at least 44MB of memory and 500MB of hard disk space to perform a normal installation." Now, 'normal installation' implies to me that everything is installed, so I don't get it.

Issue #2:

When I turn on the computer or reboot, I get this floating box:

Monitor Is Working
92.5khz 58hz
Out Of Scan Range
Change PC Setting

This does not disappear until it has booted Ubuntu, so I do not get any menu to choose between Ubuntu and Vista. Why is this and what's the fix?

Issue #3:

When I plug in his USB Wireless device, the device does not light up, there is no popup box in Ubuntu, and the device does not show up in the Wireless Settings box. How do I get Ubuntu to see this device (or any newly plugged in device) so that it can look for the appropriate driver?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: WLAN USB Works With 11.3 But Not 11.4?

Apr 18, 2011

While it worked out of the box in 11.3, openSUSE 11.4 does not recognize my TP-Link TL-WN821N any more.

Googling a bit, apparently the old ar9170 driver is deprecated and supposedly a new driver carl9170 is integrated in the kernel now, but since it is not working this cannot be quite right.

Unfortunately, I do not understand much of the instructions given at the above two URLs: Should I try to install the old ar9170 driver? If so, I found older, pre-11.4 posts here that seem to indicate that is not so simple as just copying a firmware file somewhere, so how can I install it in openSUSE 11.4? Or should I rather try getting the new carl9170 to work? If so, how can I do this if it is already supposed to be part of the kernel?

The 11.3 Net-Install (from CD) recognised that USB-WLAN-Stick all by itself, installing 11.3 just fine through the air. With 11.4 it didn't work. So I borrowed a WLAN bridge for a couple of days and installed 11.4 now (32bit plain install plus Packman), but even after the install, plugging in that Stick does not do anything.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Knetworkmanager No Connecting On One Particular Wlan?

Jan 20, 2010

on kde4 with knetworkmanager I cannot get past the wep security key on my home router. Every other wlan works, ethernet works, settings are definitely correct because it works with windows, other computers. And on the same computer even with gnome networkmanager! Also it used to work fine earlier. Behavior the same with different users including root, regardless of using kwallet or not. Networkamanager tries to connect and after one or two minutes throws the setting window back at me. I uninstalled and re-installed and deleted all related files I could think of. I even tried a complete fresh installation of opensuse only keeping the /home partition, so the problem must be lying there I guess. But then why all users?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: OS11.2 Installed But WLAN (Atheros5212)?

Jan 15, 2010

After been convinced by an exchange student from Nashville I am hosting here in Germany I went into openSuse 11.2. I installed and got openSuse 11.2 to work. I must admit, that I was very impressed. It is more than 10 years that I tried a UNIX system and Linux was quite a cryptic thing. First some additional drivers had to be installed to get MP3 to play. However Internet access was possible with cable but the system failed in recognizing the WLAN.

Here is my system:
HP Compaq nc4000
OpenSuse 11.2 (i586)
KDE 4.3.1 "release 6"
Wireless Network
Atheros AR5212

I have looked through some posts but must admit, that I did not understand much of that. I Am willing to learn, however I do not see myself compiling some drivers. If you could tell me which URL could be used for dloading or installing via Yest, If more sophisticated solutions, than I will have to ask my student to do it for me, but he should learn German and learn more about German lifestile in German Bars.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Recognized Although WLAN Works?

But now the Dell laptop shows no scan results at all although the card seems to be up and running (see terminal output below) I have to add that I had to compile a module for the WIRED network card which works excellent I always use and used a wired network and cannot say when the wireless card stopped to work PLUS I had a faulty harddisk which was replaced by Dell recently so there could be also a hardware fault since then because the laptop was opened by the service people. And yes the wireless is switched on in the BIOS If I create a wireless network with the laptop the netbook can see it, so the wireless card is broadcasting
