I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop using Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-card (This is what Windows Vista says I have). I have installed Ubuntu as dual boot with existing Windows Vista. Wireless is not working in Ubuntu but working flawlessly in Windows.

My Dell Vostro 1520's Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card must not have been set-up correctly, as the Network Manager won't even let me select the wireless tab. Please just explain to me, step by step, what exactly I must do to make it work! I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
I read the thread about the b43-tools but the git command on there fails.
git clone [URL] Initialized empty Git repository in /sbin/b43-tools/.git/ fatal: [URL] not found: did you run git update-server-info on the server? I am assuming the server is them not me? I have installed the firmware per my dmeg request. And the firmware is installed correctly.

The card works it just will not connect. I think I have that rev 3 issue where I need to edit the SPROM but I can not seem to get the b43-tools installed.
I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .
Also, if any one can point to exact process to connect to wireless Lan using fedora12.
I installed ubuntu 10.10 and everything worked fine for two days (and I fell in love with linux) but now I can not connect to a wireless connection. Did I mention I am new to linux and have been working on this problem for a couple of days. My wireless card is 1395 WLAN Mini-Card I think I have the b43 driver installed. I have reinstalled the driver and linux but to no effect.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell WLAN 1397 Half Minicard, 802.11 b/g card in my laptop, and I can't seem to get ubuntu to work with it. I tried this method:
1. Synaptic Pack Manager
2. Check "Install from Boot Disc"
3. Reload
4. Install and apply bcmwl-kernel-source
5. Reboot
This didn't work for me, so I tried entering sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source and that also didn't work. Another thing I tried is formatting my Ubuntu partition and reinstalling, and retrying both of those methods. The ethernet port does work, however.
I just installed Fedora this evening, and to date I've been unable to get my wireless to work. I've got a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, and to date I've tried...I have the driver and everything, but my wireless network just refuses to show up.

Unfortunately I can't get either method to work on my Fedora 11 installation. I don't mean that I complete the steps only to find it doesn't work, I mean I can't even complete the required steps because I appear to be doing something wrong or be missing a crucial command tool.When I try to run the broadcom method I get as far as the make (or make clean) commands.

Inspiron 1525 - Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card I passed two days browsing the net looking for a solution to my problem but no way.. Im running ubuntu 10.10 in my inspiron via VirtualBox and my wireless card is not detected by ubuntu.. I installed the bcmwl6.inf driver with the wrapper and it show me in wireless window that the hardware is not present.. So checked that in the terminal by typing :

View 4 Replies View RelatedIts a Dell Inspiron 1300 Laptop. 1.8GHz Pentium M, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, and some form of Intel graphics. The wireless card in question is a Dell TrueMobile 1300, with a BCM4306 Rev02 chip.Installed 10.04 LTS, updated it all on wired connection, then enabled the bcm43legacy drivers that were in the Hardware Drivers box, and it all worked fine. First thing I did was try to install some media codecs, and noticed they went slow on wifi, and swapped to the wired connection again. I thought it might just be slow servers, but I instantly got an extra 200kbps just by wiring. I try browsing the web, but its extremely slow and sometimes Firefox stops responding. I then begin to install WINE, and it complete stops loading, so I watch the net traffic when I hit a search in FF. Nothing goes out. I hit it a few times more, and finally it'll send something and receive something, but still VERY SLOWLY.
Its not a local problem, as other computers and laptops can connect fine with good speeds. Just wondering if this is normal, or if there's any other drivers to try, or if there's something I'm doing wrong here. I'm kind of a linux noob, but I'm for defs not a computer noob. But since I can't be guaranteed the drivers work with my specific card, who knows?
I have been using FC10, it works well with wlan for sometime and goes inactive after some time and hence network goes unavailable. Even after few attempts to reconnect doesn't help. Rebooting helps in bringing it back temporarily.

I just installed the broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop packages from the packman repository. Then there is a new entry in the bootmanager menu. Using that one, WLAN works fine.By the way: Can somebody explain me the difference between the broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop, broadcom-wl-kmp-default, broadcom-wl-kmp-pae, broadcom-wl-kmp-xen packages? I did not find any documentation about that.
I'm having problems with wifi on my Dell Inspiron 1501. According to the specifications, it has a "Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN MiniCard". I could not activate the device. I have installed openSUSE 11.4 with GNOME.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running the latest version of arch linux on a Dell Latitude D420. So far everything has worked perfectly except the wireless. It seems that Arch does not even detect the wireless because ifconfig -a only gives me the loopback and eth0. I installed ndiswrapper as well as the drivers. lsmod | grep ndiswrapper shows that ndiswrapper is being loaded on boot. I tried to install the iwp3945 drivers, but they have become obsolete so pacman was unable to find them. I also tried installing the iwl3945 drivers as explained here [URL] but still no luck.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 computer. I boot into Ubuntu with a flash drive. When I boot, I cannot connect to a wireless network. No available networks are displayed (and I know my router is on) and the Network Manager icon displays no bars. I suspect that the Dell Wireless card (having a Broadcom BCM-4312 chipset) needs a driver. I have tried to intstall both of the restricted drivers (BCM STA and 43xx drivers), but with no success. I have run lspci in Terminal, and got many lines of text. Here are the lines that look relevant to me:

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 64-bit. It has a Dell 1397 Wireless card with Broadcom BCM 4312 hardware. This is proven by running lspci in Terminal. I downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit and burned a disc of it. I used System>Administration>USB Startup Disc Creator to make a Live USB from a 4GB flash drive. I plugged it in and my computer booted into Ubuntu with no trouble. The only problem is that I can't connect to my wireless network. The problem is that no matter how I install the Broadcom STA driver, it just says that the driver is activated but not actively in use. I've used Synaptic Package Manager, Jockey, and even Terminal. I have a 10 year old Dell Latitude CPx that has no ethernet or modem ports, and the only way to connect to the internet is the Dynex Wireless G DX-BNBC PCMCIA card. It came with Windows 98, and I put Xubuntu on it for a while. I believe it was Xubuntu 8 or 9. Back then I had no clue what to do whatsoever, so after a couple weeks removed it and put Windows 2000 on it. It worked, I used it for a while, but it was slow and 2000 took up a lot of space on the 12gb hard drive after all the updates. I left it forgotten and gathering dust for the past year.
Then a few days ago I discovered Lubuntu 10.10, and from what I've seen so far it is definitely a lot more compact and faster than 2000. However, the wireless card still won't work. It's somewhat recognized, because whenever I unplug it and plug it in a bubble pops up saying "you've been disconnected from the network"... which is odd, since it never says I'm connected, and says that the firmware is missing for this card. Anyway, I discovered something this time. By running "lspci -nn | grep -i 14e4":

I have a DEll Mini 9 - it has worked fine even though it has a limited memory. But Husband only uses to have a surf. It now wont connect to net. The Broadcom4312 Wireless Card is not working on Obunto. It has a Dell 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Mini card installed and Obunto Edition Version 8.04 Have phoned Dell and after several calls on Hold for over 15 mins each time and getting nowhere fast i am coming to you guys/girls. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 10.04 installed and can browse the internet via cable, but wireless isnt working. My wireless driver is "Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN".
In the windows device manager, I found the corresponding inf file to be oem20.inf which I tried to install it through "Setup Windows Driver" but it gave an error saying invalid driver. I also tried installing the Broadcom STA driver, but that didnot help.
I am dual booting with Windows 7, and i installed ubuntu through the windows wubi installer. My laptop is HP Pavilion dv4. I have installed the regular Ubuntu desktop and have made all upgrades. The results from lspci command i have added below.

I chose to change my operating system from Microsoft Xp to Linux and finally chose Fedora to be my new OS.
After Fedora installation I got a problem that I cannot connect to my wireless network I used to using Xp, I think that my wireless card is not installed on Fedora because when I checked in the network configuration I found that the only installed adapter is the Ethernet Realtek for the wired connection.
My OS is Fedora 11.
The CPU Model name is : Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU T8300 @2.40 GHz, so I think that my architecture is x86_64.
My Network controller is : Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g
I recently installed Ubuntu x64 on my dell studio 1535 using the windows installer (wubi).
All seems to be working fine apart from the built in wireless card, the proprietary driver (found in hardware drivers) installs and activates successfully and works perfectly. Until I shut down or restart the system. On the next boot the wireless card is 'disabled' and no longer works.
The card I have is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g
I am going to try a proper install on a second partition rather than using wubi later on but wondered if this was a commonly occuring problem?
The wireless card works as soon as the driver installs, however I am shown a "restart to activate driver" message and after restarting it's dead.
I just installed 9.10 on a brand new Dell Vostro 1520. The WLAN card does NOT work out of the box.
Here is what you have to do.
After install and rebooting insert the live CD
Go to software sources (system > software sources)and check the "officially supported restricted copyright" box
You are then asked to update the available software list, do so.
You will receive an error message since you are not (yet) connected to the internet and all the other repositories are not available.
Now you should be notified that restricted drivers are available, if not you can go to system > hardware. Anyway, now you should be able to activate the Broadcom STA driver. After rebooting you can connect to available wireless networks.
Alternative (in case you are not asked, which happened to me on another Vostro system) system>administration>syaptic package manager
Search for broadcom
Mark b43-fwcutter and bcmwl-kernel-sources for installation
Reboot (who said there is no rebooting required in linux)
The adapter should be up and running ...
