Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Update - Permanent Error "public Key Is Not Available: NO_PUBKEY 74A941BA219EC810"
Jul 29, 2010
I am using Xubuntu 10.4 on a AAO 11.6 (160 GB) and it's been a month that I cannot update my system if I type in sudo apt-get update the system will download the packages but then display the message GPG error: [URL] karmic Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 74A941BA219EC810
When i tried to upgrade my system, I got this: W: GPG error: [URL] maverick Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 61E091672E206FF0
During checking for updates by update manager i get following error: W: GPG error: [URL] karmic Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 5A9BF3BB4E5E17B5
All the places online said to do this script - sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hel-sheep/pastie && sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install pastieAnother had a sudo upgrade in the middle, but essentially just that script above. Whenever I do that, my terminal hangs at -Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /etc/apt/secring.gpg --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 8B9B7F6B51298512D6B5A8993B9ADE3DE4CA452gpg: requesting key DE4CA452 from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.comEventually I crtl c and it looks like its installing, but then stops and says -W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net maverick Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 93B9ADE3DE4CA452
I have added the following line in sources.list, deb [URL] squeeze main non-free
Running apt-get update i get this error message, Reading package lists... Done W: GPG error: http://www.debian-multimedia.org squeeze Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 123456789
Do i need to generate this public key 123456789 ? If so, how?
Running apt-key update has not solved the problem.
apt-get install debian-archive-keyring was a recommended solution from some googling.
I have also read this page, [URL] , but how to add a key is under construction.
I update my computer with ubuntu 10.04 I get this message(pic is attached). This is one error message I get:
[Code]....
I have used UbuntuTweak and Ailurus to add some repositories so I'm not sure if one of those are affecting this. What steps should I follow to fix this?
after initating the update and i enter my pass word, update stops and an error box comes up stating that it is unable to update because there is more than one synaptic manager running, i have restarted and get the same results, and to my knowledge there is nothing else running in the background.
Why everytime I send apt-get update I got this error on the last lines? Reading package lists... Done W: GPG error: [URL] Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 8F91B0E6C862B42C Here is my /etc/apt/sources.list
every time i try to update my computer i get this message administrator@desktop:~$ sudo aptitude upgrade W: The "upgrade" command is deprecated; use "safe-upgrade" instead. Reading package lists.Done Building dependency tree Reading state information. Done Reading extended state information Initializing package states.. No packages will be installed, upgraded, or removed. 0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used.
I tried to update to Ubuntu 11.04 from 10.10, and I got a strange error like "Unable to calculate changes, package ubuntu-desktop is needed but not going to be installed". Then the sistem claimed to return back to the previous state, but now ALL the package are marked as "upgradable", and the Software Updater is suggesting me to do a "partial upgrade". What happened? How I can get back with a coherent system? I don't installed the xubuntu-desktop, BTW.
The public key isn't available when I try to use the Update Manager; clicking the "Check" button results in a popup with the following text:
Code: W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net lucid Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 6E871C4A881574DE
I am using ubuntu 9.10.While running a partial update through System->adminstration->update-manager. I am facing error as 'Error Authenticating some packages". Please find the attached, screenshot of the error and sources.list file output.
I've been having this problem for a while now. Every time I try to update using
Code: zypper up
or even by using YaST it stops midway. For example in using Zypper I get the following error
Code: Retrieving: 11.2 [error] Error: Download interrupted at 81% History: - [AbstractCommand.cc:195] URI=http://opensuse.uib.no/update/11.2/repodata/4ec3f2acdd863958479cbacbb5bc19f939e35099-deltainfo.xml.gz and it gives a list of URL's like the above.
I don't know what's wrong as I only have the following repositories, Packman, updates for opensuse 11.2, non-oss, oss. The URL for the update repository is Index of /update/11.2
(after i update packages, it says error, and here's whats in the details tab) Preconfiguring packages ... (Reading database ... 197969 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace flashplugin-installer 10.3.181.34ubuntu0.11.04.1 (using .../flashplugin-installer_10.3.181.34ubuntu0.11.04.1_i386.deb) ... code....
How to fix This? i haven't messed with Ubuntu much...Why am i getting an error about a kernel update?
I have to manage a publicly accessible computer, and people know the password and are willing to click just anything, that pops up and has a "yes"/"ok"/"i agree" button on it, just to make the message disappear. (yes, I hate their ignorance ...) As long as they can use the net, that is all they care about...
My question is, can I still get updates for Maverick without being prompted for upgrade to Natty? Also I would like to remove the button from Update Manager. Is there a simple way to do that?
I turned on my debian systems. Update tells me that I have 26 updates, mostly to samba. I proceed and it gives me an error saying something about public key not available. Suggests to try smart update. I do that, smart update says I have 129 updates available (reasonable I guess b/c I have not updated in close to a year)
I proceed with smart update...now it says I can install 137 updates, I hit Check, tells me it is downloading packages, then, I get an error: W: GPG error: http://code.highrise.ca lenny Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY B95C4D3ECC4D3D27
I don't understand why....What is the solution for this?
Basically I am trying to set up my own server so that I can ssh into it from anywhere. I am able to SSH into my server when I use the LAN IP of my server but I am not able to SSH into it if I use the public IP address. I have read many threads and in my opinion I've tried almost all of the common fixes suggested. One possibility may be that my ISP has blocked port 22. I have taken this into consideration and sent them an email and I'm presently waiting for a reply. However, I highly doubt that my ISP has restricted acess to port 22. I would really like to be able to SSH into my server from anywhere.
1). I installed openssh client/server using the following commands: Code: sudo apt-get install openssh-client sudo apt-get install openssh-client
2). I forwarded port 22 on my router. (see attachment for the settings)
3). I modified /etc/ssh/sshd_config such that my server has a static LAN address. contents of sshd_config file: Code: # Package generated configuration file # See the sshd_config(5) manpage for details # What ports, IPs and protocols we listen for Port 22 # Use these options to restrict which interfaces/protocols sshd will bind to ..... I then entered the command: Code: sudo /etc/init.d/ssh restart
4). I turned off the firewall using the command: Code: sudo ufw disable
5). Here is the output of the IP tables: Code: Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination
Getting "DBus error : Unable to get transaction id from packagekit." when trying to update. I can't update or install software through the package manager anymore. The yellow exclamation point won't go away on the toolbar.
I have setrup Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud on a single machine.
1) I am able to run the instances from store (karmic) On running the instance two ips are assigned (public and private) as 10.B.C.X and 172.19.1.2
2) I am able to connect to the instance (10.B.C.X) through ssh (using key)
3) However I am unable to access the instance outside the UEC (using public ip). When I try pinging, I get an error Request timed out or sometimes Destination host unreachable.
4) I have provided the following access using euca-authorize
Details below: 1) Hardware : Blade (64 bit) 2) Version : Ubuntu 9.10; Eucalyptus the one using apt-get install eucalyptus 3) Topology : Single physical system 4) Mode : Managed no-vlan
My web server public IP is: 202.1.2.3 and it was natted to internal IP 172.16.1.31 just confusing why I am unable to browse http://202.1.2.3 from LAN? (I able to browse http://172.16.1.31 from LAN)
When I do 'sudo apt-get update' I get this error now:

After 2 months away from Fedora i am using it again, and used yum update to update stuff, everything was running fine, downloaded stuff, but 2 of the 666 stuff to install got error, here is:
I'm trying to write a p2p file sharing program using python's built-in libraries. Everything is going well. The only thing is that i'd like to be able to use openssl public and private keys so only a host with the public key could access/decrypt the filesharing. I've gotten these libraries (httplib, basehttpserver, ssl, os) to work using just a pem file containing both the public and private keys but no success with them seperately. Can someone point me in the right direction or offer an alternative? PS, the goal of the project is to create an anonymous, decentralized, secure file sharing program. I want to be able to upload this to sourceforge so everyone can use it, if that's any incentive
