I use jpilot on opensuse 11.3 64bit to sync pim data with my Palm Treo 680 via bluetooth. This worked fine until today. Now I get the following error message when I try to sync: Syncing on device bt: Press the HotSync button now dlp_ReadSysInfo error Exiting with status YNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT Finished.
The last successfull sync was on the 20th October and today is the 24th October. I did not change any settings in jpilot or on my palm device. So I guess there must have been an update of opensuse which causes this error. But I do not now how to look up the updates during this period or how to undo them. Was there an update between the 20th and the 24th Oktober, which might affect either jpilot or bluetooth functionality?
I have been trying to run my custom Android app on HTC Hero (Android 2.1-update). However for some reason my CentOS 5.5 Desktop is unable to detect the phone. I have enabled USB Debugging option on the smartphone and the drive also gets mounted on the Desktop automatically. But when I run the following command: ./adb devices

just finished installing Ubuntu to my dell mini 10v netbook. I really like it so far but I have hit a problem that may be a potential deal breaker. I have a CDMA HTC Hero phone that I have rooted. I installed the "wireless tether for root users" app on my phone and use it ALL the time to go online on my netbook through my phone on windows. However Ubuntu 9.10 does not seem to connect to my phone running this app. It sees the SSID, and i tell it to connect, and then I just get that circle thing for a couple of minutes then it gives up and connects to my main router if its in range.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to jail Skype into its own process and not the one I login with. That way, if a hacker breaks in, it's limited to this process and only the limited functionality that that user account has. The thing is this -- thousands of Linux guys run Skype, but Skype is hardly ever updated or have security patches, and we run it all the time. It seems like an easy avenue for an exploit. As well, my iptables firew all blocks input connections that I have not established, but Skype is an established connection. How do I create a Bash script that launches Skype under a separate user account?

Audio sync method. "Stretches/squeezes" the audio stream to match the timestamps, the parameter is the maximum samples per second by which the audio is changed. -async 1 is a special case where only the start of the audio stream is corrected without any later correction.Searching the net makes one believe that this command is just some sort of magic.People just put it in the line and it just works. Isn't that nice?
It says nothing about how to change the TIME the audio starts syncing. Like do I want it to start 5 seconds delayed? Or what about 5 seconds sooner? What if the audio gets more out of sync as the video goes on? Can I slip it a little at a time? What? No magic? No one mentions a file that already has badly synced audio. So what -async 1 really does is simply start the audio at the beginning of the file. LIKE AS IF THAT ISN'T STANDARD PROCEDURE?So what is the exact solution to syncing a messed up video? And why can't it just do the proper "timestamp" sync in the first place? No docs, no info and you are left out in the cold.

I'm almost certain the files have been successfully copied to the device, because I've unmounted it, using:
Code:
fusermount -u ~/iPhone
and when I re-attached it, the files were still there.
So I just have a few problems:
1) gtkpod won't update the iPod database, even though a dialogue window opens and says it is doing just that. Does anyone know why this might be?
2) Dolphin doesn't recognise that the iPod is mounted? the command dmesg recognises it, but there's no fstab for it. I wonder if anyone knows how I could create a udev rule to automatically mount the iPod when I plug it in. And how can I make dolphin recognise it?
3) Amarok doesn't recognise that it is mounted. I have both 1.4 and 2. I presume this is for the same reason that Dolphin doesn't recognise it.
I have a Blackberry Bold 9000 that I would like to be able to sync with Kmail. Once I do this, I can be rid of the last bit of Windows I own (Windows Vista) on my laptop. Also, will I still be able to perform Blackberry software updates as required from my Linux sync? Once I have this solved I can get rid of Windows, and put OpenSuse on my laptop too.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm struggling to find a way to sync my media player (Sony W995 - it just appears as a disk when plugged in, so it should be OK I think). I can kind of get something working by adding the mount point as a 'Local Music' folder. The problem is, there doesn't seem to be a way of 'syncing' to Local folders. Further more, my music collection is in FLAC format on my PC - but I need to transcode it to mp3 when syncing with my media player. Is this possible? I don't expect to be syncing the other way at all.
Otherwise, I'm stuck with manually transcoding/copying files with Dolphin

Does anyone know of a good tutorial for setting up single sign-on/login sync over a pure Linux network without any AD boxes in it? I have read this can be achieved through LDAP+Kerberos+PAM...I have these installed on a server...the users and groups on the server is configured to use them and a client has been pointed toward the LDAP server and has Kerberos enabled and users and Groups set to use the LDAP server as a backend.
I expected to see the users and groups list from the server show up on my client, or at least be able to login on the client as one such user. Am I misunderstanding what I read or am I just probably misconfiguring everything? My ultimate goal is for my clients to authenticate against my server and not have to sign in again when using server resources (Samba shares etc.).
I have read that NFS and NIS are old technologies that are going by the wayside and that Samba, LDAP authentication and such are overall better and more secure...What are everyone's thoughts on this? My network is just a home network so security isnt really a big problem...im just trying to set it up like a corporation with my limited resources would for the practice and education of doing it.
what files control the udev device mapping. I'm trying to get a fresh install of 11.3 to sync a palm pilot with jpilot.
I have created a "10-pilot.rules " file in /etc/udev/rules.d containing:
BUS=="usb", SYSFS{product}=="Palm Handheld*", KERNEL=="ttyUSB*", NAME="ttyUSB%n", SYMLINK+="pilot", GROUP="users" MODE="0666", OPTIONS+="last_rule"
when I hit hot-sync I get:
crw-rw-r-- 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jul 18 22:13 /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw-r-- 1 root dialout 188, 1 Jul 18 22:13 /dev/ttyUSB1
If spent the last 6 hours googling around and yes I'm a member of "dialout"
What is controlling the attributes of these nodes?
Oh, and P.S. Why'd they put alpha video drivers into the kernel another 3 hours wasted.
I *take* photos with both my Android smartphone and a fullblown DLSR. I *manage* photos organize, rename, rotate, etc. -- on my Opensuse box with KDE's Gwenview, and on my phone with Pixie Reef's "Fishbowl" Photo Gallery [URL]... I'm interested in your ideas about ways to keep everything in sync -- without using 3rd-party online services (No Picases, Flickr, Smugmug, etc). What needs to be kept in sync, somehow, includes:
The photos themsleves. Their organization among, and order in, various 'albums' Photo & filesystem metadata -- timestamps, filenames, EXIF data. PhotoApplication-specific data recognizing that at any time a change may be made on either device. rsync is a possibility, but once photos move into different dirs, it'd get messy. What workflow can I use to do this? Do I need a central server in the mix? If not using the 3rd-party services, is OwnCloud my best/only choice assuming that after each (group of)change(s) on each device I manage to sync with it?
I've recently upgraded from 10.3 to 11.2 (32 bit). On my 10.3 system I was able to sync my Palm Treo, plug in cameras and they'd pop us as filesystems etc. Now, although my printer, and ipod are recognised, anything else I plug in isn't.
* When I plug my camera in and turn it on, nothing happens
* When I try to sync my Palm Treo, it seems that the /dev/pilot device isn't created by kpilot.
