View 2 Replies View RelatedMy 2nd Gen iPod Nano isn't syncing with Rhythmbox, Banshee, or any other music program. My computer will see the iPod and mount it fine, but only as a Read-Only drive (so I can't drag files onto it). In Banshee, for example, it will see the drive, but none of the sync options work, and I can't drag music files from the library onto the iPod.and if anyone knows anything, that'd be great. Also, if you need more info, let me know. Trying to move everything into Linux and this is really the last thing I want to work to make the move final.
View 1 Replies View Related(Running openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3). I finally got my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) mounted using ifuse and libimobiledevice, using the following command:
Code:
ifuse ~/iPhone
And I was really pleased to finally copy some music files onto my iPod using gtkpod. I navigated to the ~/iPhone/iTunes_Control/Music folder and found the folders F00 to F49. Output of ls -l */*:

I'm almost certain the files have been successfully copied to the device, because I've unmounted it, using:
Code:
fusermount -u ~/iPhone
and when I re-attached it, the files were still there.
So I just have a few problems:
1) gtkpod won't update the iPod database, even though a dialogue window opens and says it is doing just that. Does anyone know why this might be?
2) Dolphin doesn't recognise that the iPod is mounted? the command dmesg recognises it, but there's no fstab for it. I wonder if anyone knows how I could create a udev rule to automatically mount the iPod when I plug it in. And how can I make dolphin recognise it?
3) Amarok doesn't recognise that it is mounted. I have both 1.4 and 2. I presume this is for the same reason that Dolphin doesn't recognise it.
When I first plugged my ipod in, it said that it was too new to read, so I ran the update with banshee. Now it shows all of the files, but whenever I try to add or remove a file from my ipod, it say that it's preparing to synchronize, but just sits there. How to make it actually sync?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to restore my ipod nano 3rd gen. Banshee, rhythmbox, and gtkpod do not work properly so I've resorted to using virtualbox and windows xp with itunes. My problem is I can only mount the ipod in virtualbox once per boot. If i have to unplug it i have to completely restart my computer to get the ipod to be mounted again. oddly, this is only a problem after I launch virtualbox. I can unplug and plug in my ipod as many times as i want in ubuntu and it'll mount every time. However, as soon as I launch virtualbox I get one chance in windows vm and then its gone. even if I close virtualbox I can't get ubuntu to see my ipod.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem: I built a computer recently using spare parts lying around and it runs fine... except for the fact that I can't plug in my 4GB Third gemeration iPod Nano. It gives me an error message that says:

after upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 banshee does not see my Ipod anymore, which is a nano video 3g one. Rhythmbox works though, gtkpod not. I thought I had to install libgpod-dev and libgpod2, but the second library is not available anymore in synaptic. I have installed libgpod4, libgpod-common, -dev.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy iPod Nano 3G, which used to work perfectly in 9.10, doesn't seem to work in 10.04. It's detected by Ubuntu and Rhythmbox, but Rhythmbox can't see what's on it and you can't synch to it. Banshee doesn't even detect it at all. I thought iPod compatibility had been improved for this release, not gotten worse? Anyway, what can I do to troubleshoot and hopefully fix the problem?
View 3 Replies View RelatedUbuntu won't detect my ipod, I tried using Rhythmbox and Banshee, neither of them will detect my iPod.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get working properly with Ubuntu. Currently I am trying to get it to work with Banshee.Originally, my girlfriend connected it to iTunes running under Windows, and configured it and loaded music, photos and podcasts onto it. Unfortunately for her, the Windows machine had a hardware failure, and there is no other PC running real Windows for her to use. I have some Windows Virtual Machines on my Ubuntu server, but there are known problems passing through the iPod USB connection to a KVM Virtual Machine.
I tried iTunes under Wine (using the PlayOnLinux software to install and configure), but that also doesn't work (also apparently a known problem). So I am left with getting the iPod working with real native Ubuntu software. I tried Rhythmbox, but that doesn't seem to support writing to an iPod. Then I tried Banshee, which claims to be able to do it all.Banshee can connect to the iPod, and I can load music and videos onto the iPod, but:Banshee cannot see any of the music already on the iPod (loaded with ITunes),The iPod cannot see any of the files (music or video, nor any new Playlists) loaded by Banshee. The files are there (I can see them by browsing the iPod device with Nautilus), and they are certainly taking up storage space, but they do not show up when using the iPod directly. It is as if there are 2 iPods: the real iPod, and a virtual iPod accessed by Banshee.
I am running Banshee 1.6 Beta 3 (1.5.2), on Jaunty (9.04).When I first connected the iPod to Banshee it told me that, because the device had been used with a new version of iTunes, the media catalogue would have to be rebuilt, to which I agreed. I am starting to suspect that there are now 2 media catalogues on the iPod, one being used by Banshee, and the other by the iPod iteslf.
I used this code ffmpeg -i video.flv -r 12.5 -s 320x240 -vcodec mpeg -ar 22050 -ab 128k -acodec ac3 out.mp4 for converting a flv to mp4. The output is all right, but in the ipod nano 3g 4GB it has no sound. What's wrong? Maybe I put the wrong -acodec ac3 options?
Code:
-acodec libfaac
Code:
-acodec aac
gives me
Code:
Unknown encoder 'libfaac'
I have an iPod nano 5th generation and can't get it to recognise any music I load from amarok or rhythmbox. I tried to install iTunes with wine but that didn't work and I have no access to a windows installation disk so I can run iTunes through virtual box. If anyone knows of any fix (even if it's temporary) that I can use to get music to play on my iPod, I have a 36 hour journey coming up and really want to be able to listen to some music to dull the boredom.

I've only used Sansa products before so I'm wondering if the "6th generation" ipod touch works natively under Arch as a USB drive. Can I simply copy music over to it as such or do I have to go though itunes?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to get an iPod nano 5th generation working with slackware-current, with no luck. Currently, I have upgraded to gtkpod 1.0.0 and libgpod 0.8.0. I've run iPod-read-sysinfo-extended successfully, which wrote the SysInfoExtended file in /<ipod_root>/iPod_Control/Device.
After those steps, gtkpod would copy the mp3's to the device, but would fail writing the database. So, I generated the HashInfo file from the firewire guid using the tool at [URL]. After that, gtkpod finishes writing the database to the device, and shows all the music which is present, but after ejecting the iPod, no music shows up.

I am not sure what is happening here. My ipod nano worked perfectly with the computer I am using with Windows XP, Ubuntu 9.04, Xubuntu 9.04, and gNewSense 2.3.
I wanted to use Xubuntu 9.10, but my ipod does not work with it. The other choice is gnewSense, but I am not sure if I want to be limited by their ultra-strict free software policy. I posted a TON of information on the Ubuntu forums about this:

I Updated from Fedora 9 to Fedora 13 several months ago and noticed that AAC audio encoder was no more available in Avidemux (I use version 2.5.3.3 for fedora 13 from rpmfusion repo)Unfortunately AAC is mandatory on the IPod (and probably other Apple devices) to have the sound working.I had faad2-libs (decoder) and faac (encoder) packages installed, but avidemux was not using them. After some search on the web, I found that faac support was removed because of legal issues. Some people recommend to rebuild Avidemux from source but this was a little bit complicated, and I found an easier solution.
In fact the only thing needed to add AAC support to Avidemux is to add the required libADM_ae_faac.so library in /usr/lib/ADM_plugins/audioEncoders, as it is no more supplied in the package avidemux-plugins. Searching for libADM_ae_faac.so on the Web, I found some packages containing this file, such as the ones from other distros, and the package for the same Avidemux version than the one I use but for Fedora 11 : avidemux-plugins-2.5.3-3.fc11.i586.rpm.
My 4 GB 2nd generation Ipod nano will not mount to my Compaq Presario 2105US running Xubuntu 9.10. I get a message that says, "Failed to mount Ipod" with a description that says, "mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so ."
I even went back to my XP to restore the ipod to factory settings essentially formating it, to see if that would help, but I get the same result.
Is there something that I may have overlooked?
Whenever I try to sync music to my iPod nano 5th gen the songs dont sync. Ive been trying to use Banshee since I couldnt delete songs using Rythembox. The problem though is that it says its syncing, the songs are transferring, and all that good stuff but when I go to look at my music theres nothing in there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMigrated my wife to Linux when her old computer broke. She has an old iPod (one of the first ones to show video) that has music and playlists on there. I know how to sync podcasts to my iPod shuffle with gPodder and GTKpod. But how would I sync up files with her iPod? Also, what program would I use to automatically sync the iPod with any music dropped into her Music folder? This should be as painless as using iTunes or she won't do it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to have my whole library in OGG because it's free and has a better sound quality. The thing is that i have an ipod nano 4th gen and I heard that you can't sync ogg files with an ipod. So, how can i get my music into my ipod without having two separate libraries (that would take too much space in my HDD)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to sync music into my iPod and and put them in albums and have an artwork for every song. I tried rhythmbox but I don't know how to put the artwork on the songs. I tried Hipo iPod management tool and gtk iPod manager but it doesn't recognize the iPod. I also tried iTunes with wine but it doesn't recognize the iPod either. I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm new to ubuntu and I was a little concerned the jump over would be a little complicated. I was happy to see that almost everything on my external hd worked perfectly and rhythmbox plays all of the music files I have. I attempted to add music to my ipod (8gb iTouch specifically). It seemed that none of the music would come up on the iPod, even though rhythmbox showed that the files were on there. After a little time (and if I did something other than wait, I'm unaware) the files popped up on my iPod. Later in the week, I tried to add more music, with similar problems. I've removed and added the files several times and allowed the iPod to fully sync, but they still won't come up. I don't understand why it would work sometimes and not other times.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got a 4th generation iPod Touch today. I plug it in to my laptop (Ubuntu 10.04), it recognizes it as a photo storage but it will not recognize it in Rhythmbox or Banshee. Therefore I cannot get any files on to it. Although when I plug it in and open Rhythmbox it makes a little noise.
I have tried installing libimobiledevice, ifuse and tried with gtkpod (basically I've read a lot of stuff about getting it to work) all to no avail. I also plugged it into Windows Vista to get it started as well as transferred a song from iTunes 10 to it, and it still doesn't do much when on my laptop.
It seems to not be mounted in the proper place for gtkpod and no fixes seemed to work. For using ifuse it does not seem to recognize that it is plugged in. I have updated all the libimobiledevice packages and still nothing.
