Sometimes the KDE notifier shows up an error that freeze up plasma creating a bucle for infinite notices saying the same thing: "Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: unknown protocoll <<amarok-sqltrackuid>>".
Sometimes same notice appears about 16 consecutive times before plasma crashes.
This is:
KDE 4.6, Amarok 2.4, openSUSE 11.3 32bits.
I get the error: Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'magnet'.

I'd like to create a Live Usb Stick to test it and install it if I like it but it doesn't seem to work.
I tried the website method, using "Win32DiskImager.exe" but the program doesn't work for me (WinXP) : it looks like it's writing but when the "Done" message is prompted, I'm unable to access the usb key, Windows says it's not formatted. That doesn't look right...
I tried with LinuxLive Usb Creator but the boot process fails and Universal-Usb-Installer doesn't offer an Opensuse option.
Is there another way to install the distribution on an USB stick ? I could still try through Ubuntu but that would be quite surrealistic.
I've just installed opensuse 11.2, its cool man..the problem is : i open amarok (just fine) and i add couple of song but they won't play. there is something i miss..?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had problems with Amarok crashing so I reinstalled. I think its the Nvidia Driver, so I read on another thread. I tried the uninstall and init 3 thing and needed gcc and a few more files that were not installed. In the end I had enough and reinstalled. Now Amarok runs. If I install the nvidia driver I have an idea that it will crash like Ayrton Senna, or maybe quicker. so is there a simple work around.

I tried to print to this PDF called printer, but the cups-pdf printer doesn't create any files or user dirs in the default spool directory /var/spool/cups-pdf. Simply put, I am unable to get amarok to play mp3 files, which represent a large portion of my music collection.Every time I start the program, a window pops up advising me that amarok cannot play mp3 files, and it asks if I wish to install that support. Every time I click yes, it announces that the system has successfully done so, except that I might have to restart the program for the change to take effectEvery time I restart the program the same sequence happens. At no time does it ever play mp3 files.
I've tried to install every mp3 codec library I can find, none of this makes any difference.There was a time when amarok handled all this with absolutely no problem and behaved like a really good music manager, but that capability evidently was blown away by some software update that I probably wouldn't have run if I'd known what would happen.Does anyone know how to solve this? I'm able to connect to my company's VPN network using GNOME NetworkManager but when I try to login to the remote system using SSH it is not able to resolve the DNS name, It works fine if I use IP instead of the FQDN.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup Rocks Cluster on a Cluster containing 1 Master node and 23 slave nodes connected via a Switch. The master node's eth1 is connected to public IP and eth0 is connected to the slave nodes via the switch.
I was able to install the Rocks cluster on the machine, I configured the IP for master through DHCP. When I run the command 'insert-ethers' on the master node, it doesnot get me any slave nodes.

I'm currently running 11.3 and decided I'd try upgrading to 11.4 following the instructions here: SDB:System upgrade - openSUSEUnfortunately, my attempts are defeated at the point of trying to refresh the new repos; I get the following message (for the oss repo, in this case):
Download (curl) error for 'url':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Couldn't resolve host 'download.opensuse.org'
With 11.4 replaced by 11.3 in the repo url, it refreshes just fine. The only repository that works when I change 11.3 to 11.4 is the Packman repo. I'm not really sure why the connection fails for 11.4 but not 11.3!
Further info: I have an old router with no IPv6 support, but have IPv6 disabled system-wide. I can enter the url for the repositories into firefox and they come up just fine - it's only with zypper/YaST that I get the above error message.I also tried upgrading using the network CD but ran into the same sort of problem. In this case it may be because the CD installer doesn't disable IPv6. (I didn't want to download the DVD at my connection speed, and the KDE live CD is not listed as suitable for upgrade).
I'm running a modified version of OpenSUSE 11.1 from the susestudio builder. I've run across a weird issue whereby gparted is unable to create anything more than an hfs filesystem.
It seems that the package libparted simply doesn't exist in any of the repositories I'm using. I am figuring this would affect what gparted is able to do, although I'm unsure since the program itself runs fine.
Why does this happen? I am (this time) trying to install Atmel's gnu-avr toolchain. Atmel's web site gives the repository as http:www.atmel.no/avr32/suse/11.0/i586. I put that into YAST2's repository manager, and it comes back with "unable to create repository from URL..."
Why does this happen? It's hardly unique to the Atmel repository: in fact, it seems to be YAST's default behavior on ANYTHING other than the official SUSE repos.
Is there some way to fix this, or bypass it with some other installation tool, so I can get the software I need?
i m not able to create new user account to my new install of 11.2 don't know whether it occured due to update problem or some installation failure. when creation a new profile through yast it gives a warning sub-domain not started and quits however a new user get added through cli but with no profile of its own. that user cant log into gui enviroment and when he/she logs through cli it automatically tranfers it profile to "/"(i.e root) i m using kde4.3

I have downloaded openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586-iso and verified the file using MD5. I am currently running windows XP (SP1) on a Fujitsu Siemens V1000 laptop andI am trying to install linux from my hard drive and not from a DVD drive.
The path to the downloaded file on my windows partition is: e:/OpenSuse/openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso I have initialised installation and selected sda6 as the partition where the sourcefile is located. and when prompted for the directory, I typed " /OpenSuse/openSUSE-11.2DVD-i586.iso " The installations then proceeded through to "Initialising Package Manager" upon which I get the following message:

There is an option to try again at which point an additional dialog box appears and I have the opportunity to change things. Other than that, the only option is to cancel and terminate the installation. I've tried the process around 3 times, but if I'm doing the same thing then not surprising I'm getting the same result.

I am trying to add a few additional repositories to SLES 11 64-bit but I can't seem to get them added. I am trying to add Index of /repositories/server:/database but I get the error "Unable to create repository from [URL]... Try again? So I browsed that repository and then tried to add Index of /repositories/server:/database/SLE_11 but still got the error message with this new URL listed instead. I tried just the 11.2 repository and it worked - Index of /distribution/11.2/repo/oss/suse.
How or what do I need to do in order to get Index of /repositories/server:/database added to my repository?
I've got 3 extra disks on OpenSuse 11.2 - all the same size. I've created a partition on all of them as type 0xFD. If I then try and add raid in yast I get "There are not enough suitable unused devices to create a RAID."
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running OpenSuse 11.0 in a lamp configuration with Apache 2. I configured Apache with the .conf files instead of YAST because I am running virtual hosts (that's another story).
My problem is that my server will not render the pages unless the permissions are set to 775 which I know is not necessary. This is also causing a problem because I am trying to install WordPress onto the server. WordPress will run, but it unable to upload images because it cannot create the directories required.
Apache2 is running as 755 with root as owner and www as group. I changed the owner of the htdocs sub-directories to myself, and created a group that has permissions to write to the directory. WordPress runs as my user and has the same permissions (775).
I want to mount the old partitioned drive with all my data as a slave and then transfer to the new system. Have fiddled around with settings in fstab without the required result. As I remember, disk was partitioned with home, root and swap.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to use SuseStudio "preload" and "live" .iso images and the instructions at SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE to create a bootable USB drive.dd_rescue ends after the expected amount of time--without reporting errors--yet "fdisk -l" reports that the device does not contain a valid partition table. The USB key does not boot and appears to have no data.
For what it's worth, my build host is Gentoo on 2.6.39, and I have the latest dd-rescue available. The USB disk is a PNY attache 4GB and works fine with any ISO's supported by unetbootin. The only other bare metal I have here is a netbook running Mepix, so I can't make use of solutions that start with "Boot your existing OpenSuse workstation

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing a strange problem with Plasma locking up. Running system monitor it shows the KDE4 process using 20% CPU time, and Plasma around 10-15%. This seems way too much since on my six year old Laptop the cpu load of both processes is barely noticeable. My Laptop is an old single core 3000+ AMD Athlon 64, while my Desktop has a Quad core Xeon 2.33Ghz chip, so the fact that the KDE4/Plasma system load is many times higher than on the Laptop, indicates something is wrong.
I'm not sure what else to look for troubleshooting wise, any suggestions? *Actually, thinking about it, the KDE4 process is timing out one CPU core, which indicates to me something is really not right.
