View 4 RepliesI've installed all codecs according to the multimedia guide, did the package switch to Packman and still no sound from Amarok.
Songs appear to be playing but no music plays.
I can hear my music files with Enqueue in SMPlayer, VLC, Gnome Mplayer, Kaffeine, Mplayer, and SMPlayer.
Running OpenSUSE 11.2, KDE 4.4.1, Amarok 2.3
I'm getting no sound from amarok. I been trying different things like mp3's and internet radio, updating packages, even choosing gstreamer (xine by default) but no go.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI added the Packman repository and installed ASF modules for Amarok. Since that point Amarok didn't make a noise, although it actually played music.
- Speakers aren't muted
- sound works fine using banshee and pretty much everything else
- so drivers are up to date
After upgrading my Lenovo T61 to openSUSE 11.2 (64 bit)/KDE 4.3.1.playing mp3/Internet radio (Last.fm) or DVDs using VLC works fine. When trying to play mp3s/Last.fm with Amarok 2.1.1 or when trying to play DVDs using LinDVD there is no sound at all although each player appears to be processing each of the media correctly. When testing sound output with the Amarok settings (backend Xine) I get test sound output with these device types
- HDA Intel (AD198xAnalog)
- Pulse Audio
But none with
- HDA Intel (AD198xDigital)
- HDA Intel, AD198x Digital(IEC (S/PDIF) Digital Video Output).
Could it be that some other sound server, such as ALSA etc is blocking/competing with the audio hardware? How do I get Amarok/LinDVD to output sound?
Recently upgraded to OS 11.3
Sound is working fine-- I can test my sound card in YAST and get sound when I play audio or video files using kaffine. But when I try to use amarok or banshee I get only silence, even when I just try to play system sounds.
I had a opensuse 11.1 X86_64 system with openoffice. This has been replaced by an opensuse 11.3 X86_64 system with openoffice 3.2.1.4. I have many pps files and these worked complete with sound on the 11.1 system but there is no sound on the 11.3 system. The 11.1 system has gone and was overwritten by Windows 7 so I can't verify the build. I know I made lots of changes to the 11.1 system in order to fix various problems and openoffice could well have come from a factory repo.
What I need to know is what is needed to make impress play pps presentations as it did on 11.1 and does on windows 7. I searched on the internet and it appears that the novell version of ooo may use gstreamer. I have loaded many gstreamer packages from packman including plugin-good but still get no sound. Starting impress from a command line does not produce any error messages.Does the novell openoffice use gstreamer or java multimedia? I have not yet tried the java option I could try downloading the novell openoffice source and try to work out what it is using. I am not sure that I have the time to go searching through the source and probably trying to compare it to the ooo source
I have followed the opensuse sound troubleshoot pages and can't get it to work. The onboard sound does work in Sudix, out-of-the-box so I know it's not me plugging in my headphones in the wrong socket. Maybe Sidux works because it's newer? I did update opensuse 11.2 before I started again and I did install the new alsa, but that still didn't fix it, I only installed the latest stable build. Is there a development branch that may support my sound card? Anyway, here is the vital info:

I have tried reinstall of alsa, libasound. I was having 32-bit flash player; but there was no sound. Now I am using 64-bit flash player from adobe website, yet no sound still. I do not have pulseaudio. The file alsa-pulse.conf does not exist. Somehow, my system thinks there is pulse while I have it uninstalled.
the flac decoder in 11.1 Amarok Playing my CD rips (flac) in Amarok has issues with something like skips. little short dropouts in the sound. Using Suse 10.3 (still on the box) does not have this issue. System: Suse 11.1, KDE 3.5 recent install and update. 32 bit on 32 bit platform, old Athlon 2500+ Asus MB, 1 GB ram, two 120 GB internal, Audigy SC.

I have a weird problem where the playing any track from Amarok results in no sound being heard from the speakers. However, from everywhere else - YaST audio configuration, openSUSE startup, VLC, SMplayer et al - the sound is heard fine. I have no clue as to how I can go about fixing this. Hoping someone could assist me with this. I have a Dell Inspiron 1520. Here's the link to the output of alsa-info.sh: [URL] My Smolts system profile: Show Box my /var/log/messages keeps recording this:
Code:

whenever I try to play something on Amarok I'm running on openSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.5 ( though this problem existed on KDE 4.4 as well).
I have 11.2 installed on a dual core 64 bit system. The sound works when I use Yast to look at the sound device and select "play test sound". I haven't gotten anything out of Amarok or SMPlayer. I followed the guide listed in other posts to update the system although I could not seem to solve all the dependences. When I use SMPlayer to play an MP3 file, I get a message saying that I am missing libdirectfb-1.1.so.0
I tried the following: Code: ldd /usr/bin/mplayer | grep libdirect libdirectfb-1.1.so.0 => not found This seems to be the only missing library. The interesting thing is that if I search my system for libdirect, I find that I have libdirectfb-1.2.so.0. Is this a newer rev or a different library because of my platform?
I've installed openSuse 11.3 recently and the sound card is ok because I can play audio with KsCD but there's no sound at all with any of the other players or browsers. Video now is ok after installing Packman Repository etc, but still no sound.
View 3 Replies View RelatedPlay a song in Amarok and then press the space bar to pause. Press the space bar again to resume and Amarok starts playing again with the status bar moving and the timer counting down, but no sound. If I move to the next song, sound starts working again. Or if I double click on a different song, sound works. If I use the xine backend, the problem goes away. I'm using Amarok-2.4 and KDE 4.6.1.

Isn't the scrobbler (or whatever it is called) built into the newer Amarok as it used to? I recently upgraded to 2.3.1 and I can not find any possibility to connect with Last.fm. Do one have to install it separately instead?I am on OS 11.2 and upgraded through KDE application update repo.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've tried to search through this forum a couple of times to understand this problem, but no posts to date (that I've found) quite address it. Simply put, I am unable to get amarok to play mp3 files, which represent a large portion of my music collection.Every time I start the program, a window pops up advising me that amarok cannot play mp3 files, and it asks if I wish to install that support. Every time I click yes, it announces that the system has successfully done so, except that I might have to restart the program for the change to take effectEvery time I restart the program the same sequence happens. At no time does it ever play mp3 files.
I've tried to install every mp3 codec library I can find, none of this makes any difference. There was a time when amarok handled all this with absolutely no problem and behaved like a really good music manager, but that capability evidently was blown away by some software update that I probably wouldn't have run if I'd known what would happen.Does anyone know how to solve this? (Yes, I've tried using mmcheck. Does no good. This is openSUSE 11.3 for x86_64. Amarok Version 2.3.0 Using KDE 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) "release 2"
After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing, zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
Although Im using SuSE since 7.2 this is my first forum post here. I just plugged in my iPhone with USB and 11.4 created an eth1 interface for the iPhone and also loads the ipheth kernel module. Anyhow I am not able to acquire an IP address using DHCP. The iPhone OS is 4.2.1 and its an iPhone 3G 8GB black

For the last few releases, I've remained with Amarok 1.4, but now that I've deemed Amarok 2 stable enough, I've upgrade, however, the lyrics to my songs (which I put in a lot of effort in downloading), are not reflecting. Is there anyway to export lyrics from Amarok 1.4 and import them in Amarok 2?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes the KDE notifier shows up an error that freeze up plasma creating a bucle for infinite notices saying the same thing: "Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: unknown protocoll <<amarok-sqltrackuid>>".

This is:
KDE 4.6, Amarok 2.4, openSUSE 11.3 32bits.
I can hear system sounds and the test sound. But I cant hear any sound from either kscd or amarock. Both show themselves "playing" but there is no sound from the speakers. I know my hardware is ok cos it all works under Windows XP. I have opened kmix and unmuted every thing and put the sliders to max ...but nothing. Im using suse 11.1 64bit
One thing ...I cant set "Direct Digital Playback" in kscd. If I do the the CD vanishes from the CD player. Ejecting and reloading the CD doesnt make it visible again.
I can post the file containing the hardware information from yast ..but its 700kb
I get sound if Im looking at a video in Firefox
I found that I need to do sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg.But when I do that It finishes with an EULA that I cannot say ok to, the only thing I can do is exit the terminal and I believe that is preventing the libxine1 package from finishing the install.I cannot play audio in any of the programs that come with ubuntu either.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIf I run Amarok right after ubuntu starts, and then start a movie, there is no sound. It doesn't matter that the playback in Amarok is paused, stopped or active, there is no sound in the other player. Even if i exit Amarok, i don't get any sound. It is important to note that the other player is definitely a gnome application. I tried playing a song in Rhythmbox after Amarok was started, or play a video in Movie Player: no sound. I get sound from KDE video players, but the video doesn't work there, so that isn't an option. The only explanation i can think of, is that Amarok somehow "occupies" the sound drive, and it remains "occupied" even after the application was closed. Because if i start Movie Player before Amarok, this problem never appears.

I just installed nVidia GT440 w/ NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-280.13.run driver on my Scientific Linux on two of my workstation and one of workstation sound disappeared. Both workstations are identical though in terms of hardware and OS (Scientific Linux).
I'm not really sure where to look, but here is dmesg from workstation where sound isn't working:[URL]..whenever I go to System -> Preference -> Sound -> Output on broken workstation I only see "HDA NVidia Digital Stereo (HDMI)" and my old/onboard sound card is missing.
I actually did roll out of same Video Card to more then just 2 workstation, I did that to a 5. Only 2 of them sound working as expected. 1 of them didn't even needed to install nVidia drivers but that workstation running slightly newer OS version 6.1 instead of rest 6.0, so I'm back to where I started it ... clueless ;(
