OpenSUSE :: Unable To Upload Images Because It Cannot Create The Directories Required

Jun 1, 2010

I'm running OpenSuse 11.0 in a lamp configuration with Apache 2. I configured Apache with the .conf files instead of YAST because I am running virtual hosts (that's another story).

My problem is that my server will not render the pages unless the permissions are set to 775 which I know is not necessary. This is also causing a problem because I am trying to install WordPress onto the server. WordPress will run, but it unable to upload images because it cannot create the directories required.

Apache2 is running as 755 with root as owner and www as group. I changed the owner of the htdocs sub-directories to myself, and created a group that has permissions to write to the directory. WordPress runs as my user and has the same permissions (775).

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Create Bootable USB Drives With SuseStudio Iso Images?

Jul 3, 2011

I am attempting to use SuseStudio "preload" and "live" .iso images and the instructions at SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE to create a bootable USB drive.dd_rescue ends after the expected amount of time--without reporting errors--yet "fdisk -l" reports that the device does not contain a valid partition table. The USB key does not boot and appears to have no data.

For what it's worth, my build host is Gentoo on 2.6.39, and I have the latest dd-rescue available. The USB disk is a PNY attache 4GB and works fine with any ISO's supported by unetbootin. The only other bare metal I have here is a netbook running Mepix, so I can't make use of solutions that start with "Boot your existing OpenSuse workstation

General :: Multiple Users To Create Directories Over SFTP So The New Directories Keep The Same Permissions?

May 15, 2011

I want to make a webserver with multiple users allowed to login through SFTP to a specific folder, www.Multiple users are added, lets say user1 and user2, and all of them belonging to the www-data group. The www directory has an owner www-data and a group www-data.

I have used chmod -R 775 on the www folder, but after I try to create a folder test through my SFTP server (using Filezilla) the group of the directory created has only r and x permissions, and I am not able to log in with the second user user2 and create a directory within www/test due to a lack of w permission to the group.

I also tried using chmod 2775 on www directory, but without luck. Can somebody explain to me, how can I make it so that a newly created directory inherits the root directory group permissions?

Ubuntu :: Images Not Rotated Correctly On Upload?

Apr 18, 2010

I have some pictures that were taken vertically and they show up rotated correctly in nautilus and F-spot correctly. But when I go to upload an image to the web, the preview in the image upload dialog shows the pictures on their side, or horizontal. As a result the uploaded images ends up being horizontal and not vertical, like I want it too. To sum up, the images show up rotated correctly in the file browser, but they aren't actually rotated when uploaded to the web.

Programming :: Can't Upload Images With HTML Forms?

Feb 16, 2010

Well, the title says it all. I have a form like this in my document:

<form enctype="multipart/form-data" name="profile" method="post" action="?">
<input type="hidden" name="MAX_FILE_SIZE" value="250000">
Select image:<input type="file" name="image" />
<br />

[code]...

I even printed the $_FILES array and it looks like this:

Array ( [image] => Array ( [name] => bojan.jpg [type] => image/jpeg [tmp_name] => /var/upload/phpjarPwZ [error] => 0 [size] => 10096 ) )

But the problem is that this file never gets saved to /var/upload directory (I changed php.ini file, so that uploaded files should be saved into /var/upload. I tried /var/tmp as well, but it's the same). Here are also the permissions of this dir:

drwxr-xr-x 2 apache apache 48 2010-02-17 00:30 upload

BTW, I use Mandriva 2010 64 bit distribution. I spent last two days searching for solution on internet forums, asking people and made absolutely no progress. is it possible to debug what is happening with the supposedly uploaded file? I mean any logs, where I could find trace, what's going wrong? I tried to check /var/log/httpd and files in there, but no success either...

Server :: ProFTPd - Upload Anything Or Create Directory: 550 Permission Denied Error

Jan 7, 2010

I have proftpd @ Ubuntu 9.04 server. It authenticates users via Auth file, e.g. those are "FTP only" users, not real linux users. Each of them has assigned home dir in the same auth file. They also get Chrooted into it, e.g. default dir is ~ in proftpd.conf They can connect and download files successfully, however, they cannot upload anything or create directory: 550 permission denied error.

When I login via ssh and change user to proftpd user, I can create directories in that particular place, so I guess it's not Linux permissions problem? Or is it? /var/log/daemon.log is the place where proftpd stores its logs, but I cannot find anything relevant there

Software :: Create Iso Images With Long Filenames?

I tried to use dd to record the disk, but it crashes with an "i/o error", which is strange because I can read the files on the cd without any problem.Luckily, I found all of the files from the disk already backed up on my hard drive. The problem is, when I create an iso image using mkisofs it abbreviates all of the filenames... which makes the game not... run. So how do I create an iso image with long filenames?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Create A Video Within Webcam's Images?

Dec 6, 2010

I have a very big image directory: One image per minute, whole a year, captured from a webcam. Now I want to make a video (15 or 24FPS) with all the webcam captures, to see how it changed during this period. I've tried automotion, but it makes a very low quality video, besides it blocks with lots of images. I've also tried dvd-slideshow, but it's not possible to make a more-than-1FPS video.

I also need to change the date in each webcam's images, because they are wrong, so it needed to overlay a little layout with the right date for each image, is that possible to manage within some application? Preferibly shell applications which supports lots of Gb of information (anyway I always could make little videos and then glue them)

Ubuntu :: Create A Directories That Always Stay On Top?

May 6, 2011

have been working how to do this for a while finally getting around to asking....

as a long time windows user I have used a trick of creating directories that will always be the first ones displayed by using an _foldername model, for ex:

_temp
A dir
B dir
temp

assuming the four above are directories that is how they are sorted by default in windows and I commonly use this technique for special folders.

for my virtual machines folder in windows looks like this:

_base
LX-Ubuntu9.1
LX-Ubuntu11.4
XP-TestVM
...

where I put base virtual machines in _base and it makes it easy to separate them for all the other folders which are virual machines....SO....

in Ubuntu, I cant figure out a character or way to ensure this type of behavior, for example if I create a _base folder it shows up after a dirs and around the bs etc...

any know a way to create a dir with a special char that will ensure it stays on top?

OpenSUSE :: YAST: Unable To Create Repository?

Jan 12, 2010

Why does this happen? I am (this time) trying to install Atmel's gnu-avr toolchain. Atmel's web site gives the repository as http:www.atmel.no/avr32/suse/11.0/i586. I put that into YAST2's repository manager, and it comes back with "unable to create repository from URL..."

Why does this happen? It's hardly unique to the Atmel repository: in fact, it seems to be YAST's default behavior on ANYTHING other than the official SUSE repos.

Is there some way to fix this, or bypass it with some other installation tool, so I can get the software I need?
