I'm on ubuntu 10.04 32-bit desktop. Somehow Opera 10.60 is very slow to load. I just switched from FF to Opera, and (I'm pretty sure, might be dreaming though) that the first few days it was lightning fast.. and now it takes like 10+ secs to load any page.
View 9 RepliesI installed Opera 11 a couple of days ago and it is incredibly slow. After entering a url it just sits there with "Document 0%" in the location bar for thirty seconds to a minute, then renders relatively fast. I've gone back to both version 9.xx and 10.63 and they are both faster.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been using Opera 10.11 on two different computer systems, two different locations (work & home), and two different Slackware versions (13 & 13.1 current). Opera 10.11 runs very quickly on both. After upgrading to Opera 10.60, I now find that linking to new web pages takes 5 to 10 seconds, but returning to a previous page is almost instantaneous.
I've tried installing 10.60 using slackbuilds and Opera's installer - both give the same results. I've since reverted to Opera 10.11. why it is so slow to open web pages? Opera 10.60 for Win7 works great, so what happened to the Linux version?

2. Sometimes i got my Karmic Animation like a... i dont know, just play it slower than usual. Is it Normal?

I am using Opera 10.60 browser for the past one month. Generally it use to take about 20 seconds to startup but since yesterday its taking more than 40. I don't know about the exact duration but certainly its taking a lot of time now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm an Ubuntu user since Jaunty, and I've always upgraded my system (NOT fresh install). Everything went fine, but yesterday I upgraded to Lucid. My only concern -for now- deals with startup time. I'm a desktop user (Core2@3GHz) so I think I should boot in less than 10 seconds. Anyway, boot time is 30 seconds - not too much, but there is definetly something wrong with tools I don't know (ureadahead, plymouth, etc.). Attached is my bootchart: can anyone explain me what's wrong?
Also, I don't even see a plymouth Ubuntu themed bootsplash: I only see a blank (black) screen standing for seconds, then I see the bootsplash for less then half a second, then GDM appears :S Not crucial -I know- but how can I fix it? (I don't know if it's related, but I can see the animation at shutdown)Finally, GNOME desktop takes too long to load. I don't know why, but there are 15/30 seconds in between login sound and a usable desktop (with panels and icons, I mean).Please help me, I don't want to do a fresh install. View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever I transfer a movie into my 16GB USB flash disk, my whole system becomes windows-like and unusable!
When i drag the file(s) into the USB disk folder, it starts out fine and pretty darn fast (25mb/sec) then slowly decreases until it's unbearably slow (3m/sec) and as a side effect my whole system starts deteriorating. I basically have to wait for the file to finish transferring before i can use my desktop again!
This has been happening with every version since Karmic (all 64bit)- I put up with it because I don't use the USB stick that much.. but lately it's been my go to source for transfering large files to/from work.

I've just installed opera, copying over my sessions, history, cookies and so on over from SimplyMepis, and while it runs okay, there is only the 'file tab' available at the top of the screen as a pull down menu. I've noticed an applet at the top-right of my screen, which when right-clicked gives me a few options (downloads, history...), but this seems my lot. Where the heck is everything else? For one thing I want to restore a previous session.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with Opera 11.10. I can't seem to uninstall it. There is no package related to it in Synaptics Package Manager. It isn't listed in the Software Center.
When I search for "opera" in Unity search it shows up and I can launch it. The launch command is "application://opera-browser.desktop/." but there is no file like that in /usr/share/applications folder.
Also, when I install Opera 11.50, then it installs separately and still launches 11.10 from the Unity search.
I can get all the utube videos other website videos , but no BBC videos using U 9.10 and Opera 10.10. They work with FF or Using Opera in Fedora it works fine. I have all the usual Gstreamers, restricted extras/flash player etc. I read just about every post I can but see nothing I do not already have.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded Opera, and I actually kind of like it and am thinking about making it my regular browser instead of Firefox. (I have version 10.10 by the way.) However, I can't check my Myspace account, because every time I sign in it tells me I need to enable Javascript to use the site. I have Javascript enabled in the site settings and global settings. Myspace worked fine until I randomly hit 'Mask as Firefox' for no real reason, and now it won't work, even though I have it set back to 'Identify as Opera,' the default setting.

My question is, the article also makes it seem as if Installing via repository is different to Installing via shell. Is this correct or is installing via shell just additional steps required as part of the installation from repository?
I am looking for a way to hide the tile bar on Opera's window. I know Compiz has a Window Decorations plug in, but can you specify there only the Opera windows to lack their title bars?

Works great. I am notified of updates and everything.
Problem is that lately when I run an update to Opera the key is deleted from Software Sources. This happens on several systems (10.04 and 9.10 at least) and happens each time I update Opera.
I install the key again, of course, and the next update deletes the key.
Every time I try to install an application I get this:

I have good experience in microsoft enviroment, now tiring to use linux, i tried Ubuntu 9.10, OpenSuse on different computers bur there is same big problem: Very slow download speed compared to microsoft.same file at same time downloaded by microsoft winxp toke incomparable short time. for example file 5.5MB attached to e-mail on Yahoo toke ~1minute to download on winxp computer,same file at same computer but with Ubuntu takes more thane 30minutes!

It seems starting up gives a ton of errors I can't really isolate. The above boot errors are in no order. I just pasted them all together.
What happens is randomly when Im browsing through videos on ....., it crashes back to the login screen. Im guessing this has something to do with Opera's plugin/Sound/Pulse Audio.
I recently installed Opera 10.10, and I'm loving the browser.I decided to try out some themes, decided I didn't like them, and went back to the default theme which I like.Now though, the right click menu of the mouse doesn't actually load a theme - similar to when a program that needs root privilages (Synaptec package manager for example) won't be skinned unless you put a theme folder in the .root directory.I've attached an image of the right click menu.how to get Opera to load the Gtk (I think) theme or inbuilt theme for context menus. The installation appears to complete itself successfully. However, when I come to then clicking on the new Opera logo in the panel menu, nothing happens. Even after a restart.

I have switched to Opera because my Firefox eats my CPU and makes everything go slow (it even makes my music lag!) when I have a few tabs open or try to scroll on a fairly big site with pictures and flash stuff.
These problems are completely gone with Opera, but I would like it to behave more like my Firefox does. I use multiple workspaces all the time, so it really bugs be when Opera insists on opening new tabs in the window already open in another workspace. That takes away some of the point with multiple workspaces, if I need to drag opera along all the time. Making it show in every workspace is not an alternative, since I try sorting different tasks to different windows.
What I tried was to add the -newwindow flag to the opera launcher. This works, but however, I have to open the first tab manually (duh!) which is kind of unnecessary.
So how do I make Opera open new windows WITH a tab when I use the opera shortcut launcher? And if someone could throw in how I can make a startpage open instead of the ballot screen, it would be nice!
From time to time I have to close Opera in order to regain the ability to use Totem or VLC (perhaps others). I'll explain. Normally everything is fine, but from time to time I will open Movie Player (Totem) and it will attempt to load whatever I have sent to it and it will vanish (crash). I can attempt to send anything to it and the same problem occurs (audio or video; mp3, flac, avi, &c). I can test the same problem with VLC and the same results occur (vanish/crash).
If I close Opera (and optionally restart it), I again can use Totem and VLC. I have tried merely killing Opera's plugin wrapper (thinking it was perhaps related to a plugin seizing PA), but this does nothing for the matter. (Of course killing Opera does as this is more or less the same as closing Opera.)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have another opera browser problem,i upgraded to version 10.53 build 6330 last week. it keeps crashing the cpu goes to 100% and wont come down, i had this problem with the previous version but its a lot worse with the new version.
also noticed that when browsing ebay the scroll is very jerky until you get about a third of the way down the page then it scrolls ok again.
i get the feeling the crashes are something to do with the flash player.
i tried to uninstall flash but i cannot get it to uninstall .
