Jul 4, 2010After upgrade to Opera 10.60 on my Gentoo Linux it stopped reading fonts.conf all of a sudden and now I am not happy with how Arial bold looks in non-Latin letters. Particularly bold cyrillic "ΠΌ" letter looks almost as black square when Arial is used.I want to tell opera not to use Arial at all, there are plenty ofreplacements: Liberation fonts, Droid, etc. I found stylesheets, but not sure how to write statement which prescribes not to use Arial in web pages.I know that there is "not" selector in CSS v3, but could not make a valid statement out of it.

Mar 23, 2010What can I do to disable ONLY the LEFT touchpad button on my laptop? Left Click sticks by itself randomly, this causes problems when using my USB mouse (such as permanent dragging, permanent highlighting, permanent inability to left click anything, the computer is pretty much dead to me unless I try to tab around), it also causes issues with the Tap to Click, and it also causes Ubuntu to not recognize my "Left Handed" mouse button set up after boot for ONLY the touchpad. On the USB mouse, buttons work swapped.
Current solution: Left Handed Button Swap. Touch pad to click. Right touchpad button to right click. Sometimes I use my USB (which does recognize the swap). This is the 3rd install of vanilla Ubuntu (tried it just in case). That's not the issue. This is a Dell Inspiron 6000. I want to just disable the left button on ONLY the touchpad, I don't want this to affect my USB mouse. I want to keep the right button touch pad working. And of course I want my mouse to work. But, actually, my ideal is to sacrifice the left button, use Tap to Click, and use the right mouse button for right clicking. If I can't save the right click, can I disable both buttons?

Feb 24, 2011I have a rehearsal studio in which I play some serious brutal pwnage Heavy metal.And of course my fellow metal-heads need a computer so we can mix our music and such. So I build us a scrap PC and installed Linux Ubuntu 10.10. I know that these head banging friends of mine will eventually begin installing a lot of crappy software on it. So I made an Admin account for myself and a restricted one for them.
There might be times when they really need to install something in my absence, so I've decided to make an open Live CD for them to have, so they can have some of their own stuff on it. As you might know, when you boot on this CD you can choose between installing Linux Ubuntu or "trying it" What I want to do is that I want them to use the try- thingy so they wont erase the disk over and over. Of course I can just tell them not to install the actually operative. there's a way to disable the "Install" button in some config file or something Similar.
Slackware :: Enable NumLock And Then Disable The Button Completely
Jan 8, 2010I've got 5 users who share a bunch of virtual Windows XP guests via VRDP (VirtualBox RDP access), and I'm having some problems with managing their NumLock state. They all use rdesktop to access the Windows XP machines. This works very well, as long as all of them have NumLock enabled. If one of them disables it by mistake, and then logs into one of the Windows XP machines, NumLock is disabled and some of the programs they use start to act really weird. This is causing us some grief.
So I'd like to be able to enable NumLock on all the computers (they are all running Slackware 12.2) before X, while X runs and while KDE is running. And when NumLock is enabled for the entire system, thenI'd like to remove the ability to disable NumLock altogether. NumLock should always be enabled for these users, no matter what. It would be really nice if Linux/X/KDE/whatever just honored the BIOS setting, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that. Oh, and I'd really like if the NumLock LED was ON, so everybody are made aware of the fact that they have NumLock turned on.
ps. I've tried remapping the keys on the numeric pad with xmodmap, but that doesn't solve the problem. The actual NumLock state must be set to avoid problems with the troubled Windows programs.

Usually I use the center button to scroll up and down inside an editor, but when I scroll really fast occasionally I would press down the center button. May 3, 2010I just upgraded to 10.04 (and a new machine) from 8.04 and I can't seem to find a way to have the middle button on my mouse act as a double click like I had it on my old machine. I tried putting the input stanza from my old xorg.conf but then X would not come up. The new tab thing it does in Nautilus is driving me nuts. I see the xorg.conf isn't really used anymore, and there is something about making rules in udev but I can't seem to find the exact wording that I need to make that one rule. I would also like to disable the CAPS LOCK key if anyone knows how to do that without xorg.conf. Maybe someone can point me to a udev tutorial?

May 26, 2009I installed SLED 11 (and openSuse 11.1 as well) but the wireless button(WIFI ON/OFF) which is next to power button of my laptop does not work. It worked in vista (formatted the HD and installed SLED 11 as soon as I bought the notebook ) the wireless driver is Ath5k. The button should actually light up the LED and if the Wireless card is active LED should be BLUE, and ORANGE if the wireless is disabled.. Now its always ORANGE!
I tried to capture the hardware address of the LED but it was a failure! (previously I configured Touchpad ON/OFF switch by myself writing a small script after retrieving values from dmesg)...
So the main issue I have is WIFI On/Off switch (and LED) doesn't work well...

May 11, 2011I've had a host of problems since upgrading to 11.04 Natty Narwhal, so let's deal with these 1 at a time.
I've got a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion G60 laptop. Next to the power button is a handy wireless on/off button. This has always worked well with previous editions (9.04,through 10.10). first press toggles the wireless off, second press toggles it on.
Not so in 11.04. The toggle off works great, first time. But, it will not toggle back on. Not after any number of tries, not after restarting, not after booting into other OS's (9.10 and Vista) re-enabling it there and then booting back into Narwhal. to further complicate the issue, this feature bypass the network manager, so toggling the wireless off by the switch leaves me showing no wireless adapter in the network manager. I also restarted, switched from Unity to a Gnome session, but the issue still persists.
As my only network options are wireless, this has become a substantial inconvenience.

EDIT: so the network util is actually saying "wireless disabled by hardware switch". Also noticed it I enable it in 9.10, reboot to 11.04 (where I inevitably fail to re-enable it), then reboot into 9.10, it will initially be disabled. The key difference is in 9.10 I have the ability to enable wifi using the hardware button. It seems that 11.04 is remembering that wireless is disabled between boots. Is there a place it might be storing this value? If so, I may be able simply to set the value as enabled, since toggling that silly button isn't working.

Apr 18, 2010The thing is that flash sucks for linux on 64-bit, performance vice. Due to this I actually download every clip to a temp folder and play the file while it's being downloaded with mplayer. This works really nice. Flash is not to play a video. Does there exist a plugin for this for any browser? I tried google, but I can't find the right words to search for. Edit: I did find a plugin for playing wmp things, that is not what I'm asking for!

General :: Start Button On K3b Greyed Out?
Jun 18, 2011I'm trying to burn the .ido of Mepis 11 to a DVD. I have a 4.7Gb DVD-R in the drive. Usually, I would just navigate to the .iso and select it, and K3b would do the rest. Now, when I do that, K3b does check the md5sum, and it's correct, but then it just sits there with the Start button greyed out.
