OpenSUSE Network :: Unable To Setup 10.3 As Samba PDC - The Network Path Was Not Found

Jun 1, 2009

I am trying for the last many days to setup my opensuse 10.3 as Samba PDC Server according to the URL mentioned below, but in vain:How to setup SUSE 10.3 as Samba PDC - openSUSE When ever I try to join a Windows XP machine to the domain setup on Opensuse, I get the error:'The following error occured while attempting to join the domain. The network path was not found'. What could be the reason for this error despite of the fact the I am able to ping the FQDN of the PDC from the XP machine, but the XP machine simply denies to join the domain because of the above mentioned error.

OpenSUSE Network :: Samba Setup On Version 11.2

Jan 17, 2010

My Samba setup works just fine however whenever I do stop/start/restart. I get these errors in the logs:
Jan 17 00:21:14 neutrino smbd[4297]: smbd_open_once_socket: open_socket_in: Address already in use
Jan 17 00:31:20 neutrino smbd[4557]: [2010/01/17 00:31:20, 0] smbd/service.c:1009(make_connection_snum)
Does anyone know what to think of these? My thought is since it works just ignore and probably the SuSE team will get to cleaning this up sometime.

OpenSUSE Network :: Setup A Samba Server On 11.2 Machine

Apr 15, 2010

I set up a Samba server on my openSuSE 11.2 machine and I can connect to it locally with the local ip and with my actuall ip. My friend however cannot. I tried to have him ping my ip and that wouldn't even work. I'm confused and wondering why it doesn't work. We share a lot of files and this would make both of our lives much easier.

OpenSUSE Network :: Samba: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED When Try To Create Or Write To A File

Jun 4, 2010

I had set up a Samba server on SuSE linux a few years ago with a single shared directory. It has been running fine ever since, surviving various system upgrades and hardware migrations without ever needing to change the configuration (well, maybe once or twice). However, since a few weeks ago, it refuses write access to the share. It just returns NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED when I try to create or write to a file. That's also what /var/log/samba/log.smbd says (nothing more AFAICT). It's the same for all clients, i.e. remote Win XP PCs or local smbclient.

The funny thing is that it allows write access immediately after rebooting the server, but after a while (the next day or so) it refuses again. Restarting smbd or nmbd doesn't change anything here. I suspect that this started after installing the latest security updates for OpenSuSE 11.2 on May 17th. The new packages were (according to /var/log/zypper.log):

xorg-x11-libXext-2379.noarch
libmysqlclient-devel-2315.noarch
openSUSE-build-key-2398.noarch
libpython2_6-1_0-2213.noarch
libpng-devel-2159.noarch

Somehow I can't see which of these might have an influence on samba. But I am absolutely and positively sure that I didn't change anything else. I logged into the server only once in months, and all I did was doing the updates using the updater applet.

Server :: Unable To Setup Replication In MySQL 5.0.77 On CentOS 5.5

Jun 21, 2010

I am looking into setting up replication in a production environment but currently this is on two test machines. I am following the documentation at [URL] but I am unable to get past "16.1.1.10 Setting the Master Configuration on the Slave". When I do the CHANGE MASTER TO I am getting a syntax error for some reason. What am I doing wrong? These servers run "CentOS release 5.5 (Final)" and "MySQL 5.0.77-log Source distribution" installed via yum. The only changes from default are that I created a single database on the master before doing the table lock and dump, then everything else has been done exactly to what the documentation states, but is still failing.

The option skip-networking is not in the config file on either server and neither one runs SELinux or any firewall.

mysql> CHANGE MASTER TO
-> MASTER_HOST='192.168.1.220'
-> MASTER_USER='repl'
-> MASTER_PASSWORD='removed'

Fedora Networking :: Unknown Samba Password - Use Samba For File Sharing Like On A Windows Home Network

Jul 17, 2010

I want to use samba for file sharing like on a Windows home network. Actually they are all Linux machines but nfs is too complicated. On my host machine I installed samba and system-config-samba. I created a new share for /home, check marked writable and visible and put access to everybody. For preferences-->server settings--> security the "authentication mode" is set to user, encrypt passwords is no, and guest account is no guest account. Under preferences-->samba users I added myself as a user with the same windows user name as my Linux user name and the same password.

My client is a virtualbox fedora (used for testing purposes but actual clients will be real computers on my home network). I entered the address smb://192.168.1.184. When asked for the user name and password I put my regular user name and password since that was what I set in samba users. However, the password dialog keeps coming up and won't let met into my own computer. If I quit it says something like access is denied. How can I get my home network back? I liked this feature when my home computers ran XP but I switched them to Fedora 12.

Ubuntu :: Setup A SAMBA Network And Share To Windows 7 / OSX?

I want to make a music share that will: Allow guests, but as read-only Allow me to mount in Windows 7 with the user 'thecheeks' Give user thecheeks read/write access to that share

I swear Samba ends up working but maybe the problem is with Windows 7. I looked at the SAMBAWiki Win 7 page and made sure my registry values were what they should have been (and they were).

Fedora Servers :: Setup A Samba Network Share With A Directory Server Backend?

Feb 24, 2009

I'm trying to setup a Samba network share with a Fedora Directory Server backend. This will be used primarily for Windows users to authenticate before accessing the share. I am using Fedora Core 10 and have all of the latest updates installed. When I try to connect from a Windows machine, I am prompted for a username and password. I enter the username and password of the account I created in Fedora Directory Server in OU=People. The credentials are rejected. At the same time in the log file I see this:

[2009/02/24 16:50:16, 3] auth/auth_sam.c:check_sam_security(282)
check_sam_security: Couldn't find user 'Administrator' in passdb.
[2009/02/24 16:50:16, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(318)
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [Administrator] -> [Administrator] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER

Administrator is the user I created in Fedora Directory Server. If I perform an ldapsearch it will find the user as uid: Administrator so I know it is able to be looked up in FDS. But I'm guessing that's not the problem.

General :: Open Source File Replication - Backup ?

Jun 5, 2010

I am IT Manager. Currently I am responsible for a mostly IBM shop, running a mix of AIX, OS/400. VMware, and Windows.

My P-series running AIX and Oracle and my AS/400 both back up to tape drives daily.
But my VMware system is not being backed up, the virtual machines are, but my tape drive just broke down.

I just ordered a server grade machine with an i5 CPU, running 3 2TB SATA drives in RAID5, this is going to be my new backup server.

I am hoping I can put Linux on it, and some sort of open source file replications, real time backup software that will back up my Windows servers, and my Windows desktops in real time.... any sort of animal exist?

CentOS 5 :: Real-time File Replication For User Accounts?

Nov 22, 2009

this idea to me right now seems stupid and impractical so I'm also looking for solutions outside of this one. I'm creating a set of highly available servers. They currently utilize pacemaker to manage a shared IP address, apache management, mysql management and also drbd handling. They currently replicate, properly failover and run fine. However, this is a shared web hosting setup and everytime a new user is added to the system a username and password is created and the httpd.conf file is updated for their site. I need a way to replicate those changes to the other server. For httpd.conf I'm pretty sure I can just stick it on the apache drbd resource and create a symbolic link. However, for the passwd and shadow files that is not a realistic solution.
