When you need to change something on the server you can hook up a monitor and a keyboard and do it through the console.
I would like to hook up an external monitor in this fashion for a desktop. The current video card can only support a single display. So I was hoping there was someway to use a second monitor as just a permanent console since simple text shouldn't require a video card?
I just installed a fresh copy of 11.2 I use networkmanager and the cisco vpn plugin (not the cisco client). I create a vpn profile and connect to it. The icon shows a connection has been established, but I have no network connectivity. In the /var/log/NetworkManager file, I see this
Code:
Dec 19 13:28:08 TonyLaptop nm-dispatcher.action: Script '/etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/netcontrol_services' exited with error status 127.
When I sudo vpnc and connect that way, it works fine, it connects and I can pass traffic.
I am using opensuse 11.2x86
firewall is disabled
Gnome
I get connected to the internet via a router. The router dials to my provider and is connected to my computers via LAN and WLAN (mostly WLAN, see below). A few days ago I installed Suse11.2 to an old laptop (connected both ways: ethernet with wire and wireless ethernet).
The access to the online repositories worked only after I added the LAN-Adapter (Eth0) to the Demilitarised Zone of the firewall (I did also with the WLAN Adapter).
1. Is this normal?
2. Should I add the network devices now to an other zone?
I want to update my main laptop now from openSuse11.1 to 11.2 via new installation (from DVD) and make this installation right.
Or should I install only the data on the DVD and update after the installation via Yast?
(My main laptop has also an loose contact at the ethernet adapter.)
Greetings pistazienfresser
Now I am using (on my main laptop = Samsung X20) openSuse 11.1 and Gnome 2.24.1 (mostly, 1 account is using KDE) and Kernel Linux 2.6.27.45-01.1-pae. "/home" is on an separated partition (as part of an extended partition). I have also 2 NTFS partitions for Windows XP (System and Data), and a FAT, a root (/) and a swarp partition. My router is a AVM fritzbox 7270 (firewall should be included).
I broke my apache server. I went into the Yast administrator / HTTP Server and enabled the "rewrite" module. The server stopped working so I went back in and disabled it. Now the server still doesn't work and when I try browsing to any of the sites on it all I see is a page that says "No database selected" for any sites using databases. For static sites I get a 404 error. I broke rule #1 and didn't have back-up configuration files so now I'm stuck. What could the Yast module have done to my configuration files? I have restarted apache several times and even re-booted the computer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn short: browsing the internet with domain names does not work. The long version: I've configured my network with DHCP and ifup. Ping works on my internal net and with servers in the internet. Dig work's too! I get the right IP to the requested domain. When i try to access the internet using firefox or even wget i get an DNS error. For example wget is showing the following error: Resolving heise.de... failed: Name or service not known. wget: unable to resolve host address 'heise.de'
Again dig show me the right IP and if i add the entry to /etc/hosts it work's too! I've even tried it with manually setup of ip address, nameserver and default gateway but with the same result. Switching off the firewall has no effect on this problem, too.
I deleted the firewall files "K09SuSEfirewall2_init", "K01SuSEfirewall2_setup", "S11SuSEfirewall2_setup" and "S01SuSEfirewall2_init" from "/etc/rc.d/rc5.d" in order to disable the firewall when rebooting.
As a consequence all network services are not working. I can't connect to any other machine nor to the internet.
I rebuilt the symbolic files based on the ones for runlevel 3, but still no network services are available.
Any suggestions how to make it work again? I'm using Suse 11.3.
I install from openSUSE-11.3-NET-x86_64.iso. Installation was succesfull, but after install all packet on test internet / update was error. And after log in in installed system internet not work. I use router with DHCP
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an OpenSuSE 11.1 in vmWare ESX and every other boot I can't access any running network services (ssh, webmin, qmail, mysql, ...) from outside. I just need to login, reboot and voila - network services are working.I gradually updated to 11.2 and 11.3 by following the wiki with success but this problem remained. So I reverted to snapshot of 11.1 and now I would like to identify and solve the problem here first.I also looked at /var/log/messages /var/log/boot.msg /var/log/lastlog but can't find anything usefull. I will now compare those files from the working and non-working boot but meanwhile someone already has an idea or experience what could be wrong?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had Kubuntu 64-bit installed and decided to try OpenSUSE instead as I was having problems getting the audio to work on Skype. After installing OpenSUSE 11.3 (64-bit), I do not have network connectivity (Ethernet or Wireless)? Neither adapter can be detected? I thought the install would be fairly straightforward as Kubuntu 64-bit detected all the hardware.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm new to networks and servers, been using Linux on the desktop for a while now but always relied on the company's IT guy for setting up everyting LAN-based.
Now I want to build up my home LAN, and want to do it with Linux. I've managed to set up LAMP and file share servers.
What I am looking for is information on what I need, and how to set up a server for the following tasks:Centralized Username and Password, that when the user logs into any one of the desktops in the LAN, it uses this for authentication
Something that allows this authentication to be utilized in other servers (file access, web access, router logging, etc.). Something to make it easier for continuing permissions from one service to another. e.g. I have IPCop filtering content, and it has provisions for tracking who is making which request if there is authentication going on. (optionally) to run a script for mounting Samba shares or mapped network drives so from one system to the next. For example, in whatever box somebody logs in, it mounts a server share ("smb://Myserver/users/<username>") to a local folder ("my_user_share").
So;user "fred" ="smb://Myserver/users/fred" and user "wilma" = "smb://Myserver/users/wilma" but both would find their respective one mounted under "~/my_user_share". This would be irrespective of which box they are loggin in with. If the server share location changes (new server/servername), I change it on the server so the next time they log in it points to the right place.
I guess it is similar to Window's Active Directory, though I'm not sure what it's called, how to configure it and what it is and is not capable of doing.
I have openSUSE 11.2 installed and i need to create a gateway server that allows virtual private network connections. I want to play with my friends some lan games, but we are in different networks, so i want to create this gateway server so we can connect with VPN clients to this server and play freely.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an opensuse 11.3 install which I want to set up as a network boot server to install Solaris 10 on a Sun Ultra 10 client. According to what I've read, this requires rarpd and tftpd which I've set up on opensuse, but also bootparamd which I can't find for 11.3. It seems it was last included with opensuse 9.2. Does anyone know if it's available, if I could use the suse 9.2 version, or any alternative?

And i don't get Internet or can upgrade opensuse?
It is because i use windows 7 that (Porting web) between routes? (Other computer).
I use windows (Main system) with the same settings and i get Internet.
So it can be compatibilty issue? Or need linux also need to change other things?
I have tried this both with 2 computer without Internet access.
I have before Mandriva 2010 Free and Kubuntu 10.10 that work with that settings.
But I want KDE 4.6 so i upgraded to opensuse.
I'm using opensuse 11.4 with the bundled tightvnc package (1.3.10). How do I get the number pad to work?

I''m really liking openSUSE, i dont want to go back to ubuntu :c
In 11.3 32 bit I got my Juniper VPN working by following the advice of another post: creating links:
ln -s /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8 /usr/lib/libssl.so.2
ln -s /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8 /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.2
I then added "/usr/X11R6/lib" to the end of /etc/ld.so.conf, ran ldconfig and I was away. Neither of these lib files seems to exist in 11.4 64 bit
I have an ubuntu 8.04 dedicated server running openssh which I am having problems with.
The server is based in England yet I am currently working from Thailand. Slow speeds and timeouts I am used to but it is now over 24hr since I have managed to SSH the server (from here).
I just tried remote desktop on my PC back in the UK and this connected straight away through both SSH and SCP.
Thinking that it may be the IP being blocked from my works network I switched off wifi on my phone and tried to connect over the data network a few times with no luck.
Another strange problem is that when we got the server it was locked into a chroot jail which SSH(22) always leads into. After accessing SSH on port 22 I have to run a break script to gain root access. The sshd_config file says that the server is listening on port 57 yet I have never been able to access this.
Code:
> netstat -a | grep ssh
tcp6 0 0 [::]:ssh [::]:* LISTEN
> iptables -L

At issue is the fact that, after some time, the system stops responding to the Network (e.g., you can ping it, then some time later you can't). We suspect that some sort of network monitor is accessing the device and causing the trouble, but don't know for sure.
What I would like to do is log some sort of useful network status information and/or be able to reset the network if I can figure out there is an issue from within the device.
I thought I had it all working using "/etc/init.d/network restart" but I've come to find out that the command is not recognised in this system. I also can't issue a "top" command to see what services are running. I can Telnet in, so I can try commands and see if they work.
Have any of you worked with such an abbr. system and if so, what might be around that I'm unaware of to help determine network status?
There are a few PCs on the network that lose network connection every so often -- sometimes these old beasts have a power failure and owing to a bug in the BIOS the NIC doesn't necessarily initialize properly, which requires a reboot to correct it. Got me thinking of a band-aid -- have the PC ping a specific IP address, and if it cannot ping then it forces itself to reboot.
IF I were to write it in BASH I'd do it like this:
#!/bin/bash
HOST=<some meaningful hostname or IP address>
for ipaddy in $HOST
do
count=$(ping -c 1 $HOST | grep 'received' | awk '{print $4}')
if [ "$count" = "0" ]; then
sh usr/bin/reboot
fi
done
In English: send 1 ping to the IP address. Grep through the results to see how many of 1 ping was returned. IF it returns 0 pings then reboot. I'm sure the reboot command would have to be groomed a bit for sudoers but that's beside the point here.
So, HOW do we write something like this for DOS? Stop giggling (lol). No really, I have Windows 2000 & XP machines that need some sort of script or method of knowing (at intervals) of when they're not talking to the Host system, and need to reboot to fix it. I was thinking to write a simple test script, drop it on each of these machines and use the Windows task scheduler to run it every 30 minutes.
I had work well with opensuse 11 and the internet also work well but when I turn off my computer and then use the XP and work with it. I find out the connection with the internet doesn't work in the opensuse 11. I made a repair and format to opensuse 11 but without any change the net still doesn't work.
