Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Internet Through Wireless Network?
Mar 12, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit on my HP Touchsmart TX2 1020us which has a Broadcom 4322 chip. At first my computer didn't seem to see the card at all, but then I typed the command (sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source) and then restarted the computer and now I'm connected to the network, but cannot connect to the internet so how do I figure this out. Like I said I have very little experience with linux at all so please don't make your answers too complicated.

Jan 20, 2011I have had a heck of a time trying to get my laptop running ubuntu to connect to my home network. I have managed to get it to work at my university which would seemingly be more difficult than getting it to work at home, so I know for a fact it isn't a hardware or driver issue. If I try to connect via ethernet cable from my router, it detects that I connected the cable but says "disconnected" and never lets me connect. If I SKIP the router and go from my modem directly to my laptop via ethernet cable it works great.
Using the wireless network tool I can see all of the wireless connections in my area. When I go to connect to my network it prompts me for the WEP key and when I enter it and hit connect it just keeps cycling and eventually times out and finally again prompts me for my WEP key. I know this network works as it works just fine on my Windows 7 partition. Another interesting note - both my wireless and ethernet connections both worked flawlessly and stoopid easily on the live cd but don't after the full install.
If I manually enter in the information for my wireless through IPv4 settings and enter in the Address,Netmask and gateway I can connect to my network - but then I have no active internet connection. Same deal with my wired connection. Is this because choosing this manual method grays out the DHCP?

Mar 16, 2010I am trying to connect to a wireless internet but can't. I previously used linux ubuntu and my wireless card worked. I am guessing that it should work with fedora then too. Is that correct? Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do to get the wireless internet working again on Fedora 12? Or what I should do to get usb wireless adapter to work.

Oct 16, 20092 days ago I did a fresh install of Fedora on my computer to be dual-booted with Linux Mint. The first time I did this install a few weeks ago, I did all of the updates, rebooted (internet still fine) and when I rebooted again, Fedora could no longer connect to the internet (but could still see the networks and ostensibly connect to them). I fixed it then by manually setting the BSSID/IP/DNS/etc.
And this happened again on the new install! This time it took out the internet connection in Mint too. I tried manually setting the connection settings, but that didn't even work for a while. So, last night, thinking that the install might be the problem, I reinstalled Fedora. This morning I finally got my internet to connect on Mint, but I'm concerned that if I do all of the updates on Fedora I'm just going to end up back at square one with zero internet connection.

May 5, 2009I am having a little trouble connecting to my wireless network. Running Fedora 10 32 bit.I'm trying to connect to a hidden wireless network. I updated the firmware for my driver but apparantly the driver is still not working. Broadcom has a driver from their website for Linux 32 bit systems. Should I attempt to install it? I read a post where the driver is built into the system kernel. If so I would need to blacklist the one of the drivers. Correct?

Fedora Networking :: F13 WiFi - Network - Can't Connect To The Internet
Sep 25, 2010I just installed Fedora 13 64bit Gnome, but I can't connect to the internet for some odd reason.
If you look at the image below:
I have marked the network icon, but on my desktop I don't have that icon for some reason...
Since I'm new @ Linux(Picking it up again) I went to the services and checked 2 services:
The network manager service was running but the status said: This service is dead.
And the network service was also running but status was: The status of this service is unknown.
I also went to the Administration menu and checked Network, the first tab showed no devices, but when I went to the hardware tab it did show my card.
I also don't believe that this is hardware problem since the card worked just fine under Fedora 9 or 10(Don't remember).
So if anyone got some solutions for me it would be great...

Aug 6, 2010I just installed Fedora 13, and now I figured, maybe I don't know so much about pc anyway. Before I tell you my problem, I would like to say that I know a lot about windows, but about linux, I don't know anything. A plain beginner. And about my problem, it's more like a "how to" question than a problem.
You see, I don't know how to set up the wifi? The pc has installed wifi, and all I need to know is how I can connect to the internet. In windows you would usually just press the connection icon and then choose witch network you would like to access, and then eventually type in the password, and there you go. But it seems it's a little more advanced at Fedora. But I will give it a shot.

Fedora Networking :: Compaq Presario C700 Wireless - Cannot Connect To The Internet
Mar 17, 2010I installed Fedora 12 on my Compaq Presario c700 Notebook recently and had a great install. I installed ndiswrapper and installed the inf file for my broadcom 4311 driver through ndiswrapper as well. The installation of the driver appeared to go smoothly.
The only thing is that I still cannot connect to the internet. I aliased the driver as well to wlan0. I can not figure out what is currently the problem. I tried reinstalling the driver and I keep receive a message stating the driver is already installed.

Sep 11, 2010I picked up a cheap PC the other day for �20 and it came with a Belkin N Wireless USB adapter. I know the adapter works because Windows XP was originally installed and I could connect with no problems. I wasn't able to connect when I installed Kubuntu so I thought I'd see if I could have any more luck with Fedora....so far, not so good! I realise that this is a fairly common problem, especially for this USB adapter, but I've tried dozens of threads here and elsewhere and still can't get Fedora online.I can see the wireless networks in the list, but if I try and connect then I just repeatedly get asked to enter the authentication details, which I know I'm providing correctly.

Aug 1, 2010I have just started using fedora 13 and I am not sure if i am in the right area but here goes...today I was online in my fedora 13 partition on my laptop and I had been online for quite a while then I shut down my machine to recharge the battery then a couple hours later I turned it back on and all of a sudden my network manager applet was missing and I could not connect to the internet, I opened firefox and tried to get to my homepage but it basically just told me that I wasnt connected..
I suspected at first for some strange reason that MAYBE it was my NIC so I booted up into my vista partition and low and behold the internet works fine, so the problem is on the linux side, I have tried every command nm-applet but it just keeps saying an instance of nm-applet is already running, I have no clue how to restore the network manager and get my internet back and the only other piece of information I have is that earlier today I did do a bunch of security updates but the internet was working fine all day even after several reboots through out the day.

Sep 7, 2011I just installed a dualboot win7/F15 on my laptop (dell XPS 15) and everything seems to be working fine except that when I connect to my network it is connected and the network is accessible (I can visit my gateway/ router) but when I try to visit a website it simply never ends loading it.Internet is working on win7 so it isn't my network's fault.Now I found somewhere that updating could help but since I dont have internet I can't update

Aug 6, 2010I know Windows forward and backward but I am so new to linux it's just wrong. I just installed fedora (like 1hr ago) on and old toshiba laptop with a WiFi PC card. Everything seems to work fine except. My Networks connects to my home Wifi network but it will not connect to internet. When it connects the IP address isn't even close to being in the same range as my other laptops and PCs. Like I said I'm new to linux but I'm wanting to learn. Any fixes for this issue? Which linus book is the best one to read for a beginner? Other then not connecting to internet I have no complaints.

Jul 10, 2009I am fairly familiar with Linux but had never ventured into Wlan settings / options / too much. I have compatible card (aetheros) and when running - iwlist wlan0 scanning - I get plenty networks showing up - meaning the card works. When I installed distro which is last night (before I ran update), I had that little bars menu at the top of the screen that showed available networks once clicked upon. Since I like to modify and make my settings better - I removed that little AT&T like bar, and now rebooted after update to find that I can not see available networks unless I use iwliset wlan0 scanning.... .#$*&)@&#(&%# - need I say more.
Two questions - how do you connect to the wireless network via command line? What is that vertical bars GUI tool called so I can find it and run it again? Is there (for the love of god) alternative to system-config-network GUI managment tool for wlan?

Sep 4, 2011running Fedora 15 on a Dell Inspiron 1521. When I first installed Fedora on this laptop, I was unable to connect to a wireless network because I did not have the firmware installed, so being a good little enthusiastic new user of Fedora, I set out on a quest to locate the proper firmware. I had success on that front, however, in the process of installing it, the option to connect to any wireless network disappeared. It isn't that there is no wireless network in range, rather, the entire wireless option itself has vanished.

Oct 1, 2010I installed the new Slackware 13.1 64 on my laptop and I am trying to connect to the internet via a wireless network but i don't what is wrong with my configurations it just doesn't work.
I tried doing the following:
iwconfig wlan0 essid "ESSID"
iwconfig wlan0 key "Password"
iwconfig wlan0 channel NUMBER
Then i do dhcpcd -d but then no success after - i try to ping some sites, no reply, i put new dns servers in resolv.conf, still no results, i tried to ping some ips and it says network unreachable, it just doesn't work at all.
I did iwlist wlan0 scanning and it found all the wireless networks, so the adapter is not the problem, the problem here is the procedure. How to do it properly so it will work ? I can connect via ethernet by easy configuring eth0 but i have no success for wireless networks. I read everything there was on google, i searched a lot of sites, i tried a lot of different methods but NONE of it worked.

Fedora Networking :: SSID Broadcast Disabled - Cannot Connect To Wireless Network
May 6, 2010I have just installed FC12 on my machine - and gone Windows free for the first time ever. Now I do use various flavours of Linux on a daily basis but not from an installation/sys admin point of view so my questions here may seem a little basic but pleas eindulge me if you will!
Now, my network connection works perfectly well under the following scenarios.
1) FC12, wired to router
2) FC12, wireless, SSID broadcast enabled
3) Ubuntu (laptop), wireless, SSID broadcast DISABLED
The only scenario that does not work is FC12, wireless with SSID broadcast disabled.
I can only assume that it is an issue with my USB modem (a linksys WUSB54GS) since the same set-up works fine from my laptop running Ubuntu with an internal wireless card.
Now, I know from reading the forums that it's pretty easy to get around a disabled SSID broadcast but this is an itch I just have to scratch....what the hell is causing this problem?
nm-tool ouput is as follows:
I have tried using wpa_supplicant but I am not sure which driver I am using here - is it ndiswrapper per chance?

How I can connect once again to my wireless router with SSID broadcast turned off.
