OpenSUSE Network :: Configure My Server For Routing Between Vlans ?

Jul 29, 2011

I'm trying configure my server for routing between vlans, but I'm having troubles with my server after that vlans are set. I can create vlans and routing is OK, but when I trying remove a vlan, restart the network script or restart the server, the CLI freeze and then I can't do anything. Even Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Z isn't work. I can use other terminal or do other SSH connection (if the network interface used by ssh isn't crashed), but if I try use a ifconfig per example, crash again. The unique solution is restart the server. Nothing about this is found in the log.

OpenSUSE Network :: 802.1Q Vlans - 11.4 X86-64

Mar 18, 2011

I've configured 802.1Q vlan by creating ifcfg-vlan56 and ifcfg-eth0.10 and got two new interfaces vlan56 & eth0.10. Nethwork is not work in vlans (VID56 & VID10). After /etc/init.d/network stop (or restart) my console hangs... Also hangs ifconfig command from other console. I've got network configuration files from my old 11.3 (i've installed 11.4 on my PC with disks format). I do this whith a same hardware. Now i'm back to 11.3. Vlans work fine. My hw is: GIGABYTE 890GPA-UD3H (RTL8111/8168B).

The message about e100e and vlans is like my problem.

Do you know about this bug? ...

OpenSUSE Network :: Routing From Host To Vmware - Server - Guests

I just installed (n this 11.2 system) vmware server (v 2.02), to have access to a few small systems. One of them is a 11.1 guest which I just upgraded to 11.3, successfully (almost).

I have a problem, though: from the host I can not ping/ssh the guest.

Guest to host works fine (including names).

The firewall is down on both sides. I don't see anything with iptraf in the guest. The IP addres of the guest is correct, unless I'm too tired to see.

OpenSUSE Network :: Config Files For Multiple IP's On VLANs?

Jun 10, 2011

How can you do it with individual ifcfg-* files?

I've tried adding them like this:

Filename: ifcfg-vlan1:0
BOOTPROTO='static'
ETHERDEVICE='vlan1'
STARTMODE='manual'
USERCONTROL='no'
IPADDR='192.168.1.2/24'

but it fails on ifup, thinking it might be the filename (the vlan tagging being picked up from the name) I tried renaming it but still no go.

I can add IP's via ifconfig, eg ifconfig vlan1:0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 up

and I'm pretty sure I could add multiples to the ifcfg-vlan1 file but how do I add them from individual config files?

OpenSUSE Network :: SuSE 11.4 - VLANs Cause X86-64 System Using E1000e Module To Hang On Boot?

Jun 10, 2011

Recently, I decided to migrate from SuSE 11.2 to 11.4. My 11.2 installation was working fine with two VLANs and several VMs. I went the route of installing 11.4 from scratch rather than upgrading 11.2.

The installation went smoothly. Afterwards, I ran Yast and changed eth0 to a bonding interface. Then I added two VLANs that used the bonding interface. When I restarted the computer, I saw the following on the console: "Waiting for mandatory devices vlan3005 __NSC__". Then after a 30 second countdown:

"vlan3005 no interface found". The solution to that problem was to add "ETHERDEVICE='eth0'" to /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0.3005". Upon restarting the computer, I could see that DHCP started this time but didn't get an IP address and continued in the background while the rest of the console messages scrolled by. At the point where X kicks in and I should have gotten a GUI login window, the screen goes dark. I cannot get to a console (CTRL-ALT-F1 or F2) or any other GUI login window (CTRL-ALT-F7 F8 or F9).

The computer was completely unresponsive. I could not ssh in to it from another host nor could I ping it. I let it sit for a few minutes but nothing ever appeared on the console. There were no blinking lights on the keyboard. I had to power the computer off. I turned off VLAN trunking on the switch port and the computer booted up fine, without network access, of course. I checked the logs but could find no clues as to what happened. I suspect a kernel problem. However, before I proceed further, I thought I would post my problem here and see if anyone has had a similar problem and perhaps a solution.

OpenSUSE Network :: How To Configure A Simple Mail Server With YAST

Aug 6, 2010

Probably because I don't know what to put in some of the fields.So; all I want to do is to run my own e-mail server for my business. The network is set up, the web server is running, but I'm having no end of trouble with YAST and the e-mail server.I have a single server running open suse 11.3 32 bit. It is attached to a modem/router. I have a static IP address for my registered domain. The server has a static IP address (192.168.1.8 in this case). My server is NOT running either a DHCP server nor a DNS server - there is no need, since there is nothing else on this box. It has only one network connection - eth0.

I'm trying to set up an e-mail server. I have been unable to get an 'advanced' implementation to work because all attempts to create a suitable server certificate fail. So for now I'll stick with a 'standard' set up.I don't know what I should put in such fields as 'outgoing mail server' (I've assumed I should use the FQDN of my server);I've no idea what 'masquerading' is for or what I should do with it;I don't know what I'm supposed to put in the 'outgoing mail server' in the 'authentication' section;I don't know what to put in the 'downloading' section;and I don't know what 'accept remote SMTP connections' does.I can get the server to start, but any attempt to retrieve e-mail from it ends in an authorisation failure - the syslog shows a sign-on attempt from my 'real' IP address and some form of numeric userid which cannot be found.So, if anyone can tell me what to put in YAST to make it work, I'd be a very happy chap.

Yes, I can telnet to 'my.server.my.domain' 25, so something must be right. But my Linux knowledge is not enough to get it working properly.

Server :: Multiple Network Zone - Firewall Routing

Mar 29, 2010

We have a 10.0.0.x network with a working DNS Server (BIND) setup. Recently we purchased Watchguard firewall and configured three networks, so that our internal network can be divided into three networks and talk to each other through firewall routing. So I configured three ips 192.168.0.1,172.16.0.1 and 10.0.0.1 for local network card in the firewall router. I separated three networks and individually configured machines with static ip and given gateway as the above ips. Now, I need to configure DNS server for each zone in the same server which is in the network 10.0.0.x, is this possible?. If yes do I need to setup ip aliases for eth0 in the DNS server with different ips from each network?

Networking :: Server On Multiple VLANs Server Not Responding To Pings From Non-local Subnets?

Jul 14, 2010

I've got a machine running Ubuntu Server that is on several VLANs. Each VLAN has its own subnet and the server has an address on each subnet. The switches are set to allow tagged traffic to the server for each VLAN that it is on. Switch ports ending with workstations are given untagged ports on whatever VLAN is appropriate. Workstations are given addresses on a subnet for each VLAN via DHCP. All this works great and hosts on any subnet/VLAN can access the server as normal via its address on that subnet/VLAN.

Accessing the machine by its address on a non-local subnet is where I run into a problem. Inter-subnet traffic has to go through a router, which has been set up appropriately. Running tcpdump on the server and pinging it from a workstation on a subnet, using its address on a different subnet, shows the server receives the ping, but sends no response:

Code:
sudo tcpdump -i vlan4 -n
tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode

OpenSUSE Network :: Configure A Connection With YAST As Well As With Network Manager?

Feb 1, 2010

Im new in this world of linux and suse. I have just installed the opensuse 11.2 in a Dell Inspiron 5160. Such laptop has a BCM4306 Wireless LAN controller. When I tried to configure a wlan connection, I found that the firmware was not installed. After looking in different forums, I installed the firmware b43. Now, my wlan card is abled to find the wireless of my router.

I have tried to configure a connection with YAST as well as with Network Manager, but both cases failled. Specifically, when I use Network manager, Im able to see in the applet my connection, how strong is the signal, but I see a yellow symbol (in one forum, such a box is shown with a green symbol).

I have check many time all about the secutity, encryption, and so one and all seems to be correct. But when I open the mozila firefox or the konqueror browser, no chance to surffer in internet. Now Im just a step to become crazy. The drivers are ok, the information about the router and the keys are ok, but in such a way, I am still harmloss.

OpenSUSE Network :: Unable To Configure Network / NICs Not Being Detected?

Sep 6, 2011

I'm going to come right out and say I am a complete novice with Linux/SUSE. The equipment I'm having a problem with is a little web-server that was purchased by my employer that has, quite suddenly, stopped functioning. I was changing the IP address within YaST, at which point the device offered to update itself, which I saw no harm in. Post-update, however, I was unable to so much as ping the device.

I tried "ifconfig eth0": "Error fetching interface information: Device not found." I went into network settings via YaST and found that there are two cards now listed as: RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller Both IP addresses are "Not configured". The information pane, for both cards, cites:

RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controllerBusID : 0000:02:00.0 Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices). See dmesg output for details. The only difference in either of the cards is the BusID (0000:02:00.0 and 0000:03.00.0)

I can neither edit nor delete either of these cards. As I mentioned, I am a total Linux novice, and am at a total loss for what to do next, or even how to find critical information about the system itself. I know enough to check dmesg, but not enough to have any clue what to look for in the output.

Networking :: Routing To Internet Through One Network And To Local Ips In Another Network?

Mar 31, 2009

I have two networks. One of them is wired, the other is wireless. The wired has an internet connection and a few other computers connected to it. The wireless network has a few hosts connected to it too, but it has no internet connection. What I've been trying, fruitlessly, to do, is make all connections that are bound to the internet, or my wired network, be routed that way, and all the connections to the hosts of the wireless network go that way.

Here's the setup..

Wired:

192.168.1.0/24 Gateway = 192.168.1.1

Route internet through here

Wireless

192.168.2.0/24 Gateway = 192.168.2.1

If my computer sends a packet to the internet, it should be routed through 192.168.1.1 If I send a packet to one of the local hosts of the wireless network, it should be routed through 192.168.2.1. Here's the routing table I've set up(This is one of many configurations I've tried)

Code:

$ ip route show
192.168.2.1 dev wlan0 scope link
192.168.2.0/24 via 192.168.2.1 dev wlan0 src 192.168.2.4

[code]....

With this, and everything else, I get destination host unreachable when pinging. The strange thing is that, if I unplug my eth cable, reboot and connect to the wireless network, everything is fine and I can access the router and the others. I'm trying to improve my networking skills, as I've had this of setting up a small linux box as a router for quite some time, for the fun of it, but I need to get routing under control before I go ruin my network.

OpenSUSE Network :: Configure USB Modem In 11.1?

Sep 18, 2009

I have bought a new USB modem from my service provider. The model they provided is "Huawei EC1260" Huawei Terminal. As usual the official support is for windows and mac.

I tried to install this device using two methods..

1) Set knetworkmanager settings to "traditional with ifup". Then in wireless setup there is a choice of having "usb" (A tick box). I selected that, and setup completed successfully but the knetworkmanager was not up(I did ifdown wlan0 (wlan0 was the wireless config name), ifup wlan0 and the rcnetwork restart.)

2) Again knetworkmanager was set to "traditional method with ifup. This times while adding the connection I specifically selected the type "USB", then clicked to finish the configuration. The configuration finished without any errors but when I checked the Network Configuration screen no USB device was added there.

Are there any specific steps to configure a USB modem
