I did a fresh install,I also enable the networkmanager.after installation,my wireless unable to connect to my router . when I click to connect , it prompt for password then after that nothing happen.
View 8 RepliesI clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

When i have connect automatically enabled it never tries to connect. if I go to edit it it pops kde wallet up i put in credentials. wallet goes away then nothing happens. if i double click connection to my router also nothing happens. I have the wep key in there and i even made it visible to make sure.

I am running openSUSE 11.2 and just recently my network has been down. I'm using Gnome, but using Yast to configure my network (I'm usually forced to use wireless as I travel a lot on my laptop). Usually, when I'm connected to a wireless network, it will show up as so in the Gnome start menu, but recently, it will only say Wired there, even though I have nothing connected to my ethernet jack. I can connect wirelessly to a home router, but cannot use the wireless in any other way. I have tried manually disabling the ethernet connection to no avail. Unfortunately I am limited in my linux knowledge, so I am kinda stuck here.

Laptop wireless adapter is Atheros AR5009 802 11a/g/n. I have setup a wireless connection but it is not connecting to it. I have checked the router settings and these seem to be OK! View 2 Replies View RelatedFirstly, the actual problem I'm having is that when I start my computer (netbook) up in the morning and try to connect to the router (wirelessly) it just... doesn't work. I've used it before, at full signal strength, and it was completely fine. It never disconnects me or anything - but if I shut down my computer, like I do overnight, when I start it up again often it's hardly getting a signal at all (or so it says) and when it tries to connect it makes the connecting animation and occasionally flashes to a circular thing like firefox's loading animation. Eventually it just fails.
I try restarting my computer, but it doesn't seem to help. The last time, I had to wait until the signal looked "full" again, then delete the settings in "edit connections" for that router and only then would it let me log in again, even though I was using the same password from the same computer (even in the same place). That only seems to help when the connection looks "full" though, and even then, not always. Normally I'd try resetting the router, but I can't because it's locked in the next room (I rent a room here and the guy with the key is rarely around) but honestly I don't think the router is causing this, for a few reasons:............

WPA2 personal is the security type.
There are maybe 4 different ways I know how to connect. The most annoying thing is when this box pops up saying to type in a password for the network connection.. and keeps popping up even when everything is right.

I had thought I heard that if you had a second wireless router, you could use it somehow to detect the wireless router you have already set up in your home (like using a wireless card)? For some reason I can't connect to my Dlink router, but I can connect to my neighbors linksys router. To be more specific it actually connects but acts as if the DNS isn't working. I can ping the router, but can't ping anything past the router. Right now the router is unsecured.
View 2 Replies View Relatedinstalled openSUSE 11.3 and round that both wireless and ethernet connections could connect ok to my router but couldnt access the internet. I think its a bug because I didn't have this issue in previous versions of openSUSE.
The solution is to go into the ip settings in the wireless configuration, select the option to manually assign ddresses (not DCHP) and
- enter the ip address of your router in the default gateway and DNS server addresses
- manually assign an ip address to your computer rather than have the router do it
- it has to be in the same range as your router -n normally 192.168.1.x where x can be any number not already used.
I'm try to setup a wireless network with my linksys wireless router and my HP laptop dual booting Vista & Suse 11.2. I have the vista networked, just fine. Where I can share files and the printer connected to my desktop. But I want to be able to use Suse in the same way, full time and to stray away from Vista. My wife and kids like easy. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."
I had an ATT "2Wire" modem/router that was working but connection to the Internet was often poor. An ATT technician came to my home and swapped out the modem/router for the identical model. I changed the ESSID and WEP code to match the new unit and everything was fine with the following wireless units: a wireless desktop, two cellphones, three wireless Archos tablets, and a couple of e-reader tablets. So all seemed to be fine wirelessly. However...
My laptop (SuSE 11.0, KDE3) simply won't connect no matter what I do. I changed the ESSID and WEP info in the lappy exactly as was done with the other wireless devices named above. But no good. The lappy does see the modem/router (a good, strong signal appears in KNetworkManager). But it seems as if the modem/router is rejecting the lappy's attempted handshake using the new ESSID and/or WEP information.
I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the lappy's wireless card, so I took it to a Starbucks to see if it would connect there on an open network, and it did without problem. So the lappy's wireless card appears to be working fine. It just won't talk to the encrypted modem/router at home. Here are the settings on the lappy. Hopefully something here is easily identified as the culprit. With all the clicking I've done it certainly is possible that I ticked something that should not have been ticked and just don't realize what I've done.

Why won't the new modem/router which is exactly the same as the old one except for the ESSID and WEP work with my lappy yet it does work with a bunch of other wireless devices?
My router/adsl modem is not connected to a power supply so when power goes and comes the network will do a re-boot. Now the problem is my OpenSUSE network won't come back on! I set the static ip as Autoeth0 to eth0 however when network updates I losse eth0. Why is this happening? Why doesn't the PC simply re-connect? Can I do it via command line?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed 11.04 ubuntu 2 days ago. I have had thousands issues trying to connect to my wireless network router dlink di524. My wireless card is a dlink dwl g122 ver c1. I can't connect to the network no matter what configuration I try.
- first time i tried to connect i had static ip settled on my router so I tried to configure Network manager from GUI. I couldn't connect; it kept trying to connect forever. so I completely removed from terminal NM (using guides on internet) e installed wicd: same problem. Tried to configure manually network/interfaces file. Didn't work. Reset router and set dhcp . Tried everything again first with NM and then wicd. Didn't solve. Reinstalled ubuntu, fearing I messed up with some configuration files and reset again router. No solution
Tried pinguy os, zorin e linux mint . Nope Borrowed a network card from a friend after reading dlink dwl g122 could have some issues with linux. Tried this realtek card : same problems as above. Finally I tried again after the fifth reinstallation of ubuntu. Both NM and wicd keep saying wrong password. Changed different password. Password is fine of course (i'm using it now with win) So I Reset router password to none. Now it says: "acquiring ip address" and keep saying that forever. So i tried the last attempt: I tried to connect from zorin5 live to the same wifi network.. Ok so I happily reinstalled everything again (zorin5). first access after installation: same problems as above
Now I'm using win7 on the same wifi network, router, and same card (cards) and everything works fine at first attempt.
I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Pavilion dv5. My laptop has a Broadcom 4312 wireless adapter. The driver for the adapter was installed by Ubuntu as a proprietary driver. The wireless light is on and I can see the available networks, but I am unable to connect to my network. The correct authorization is set(WPA/WPA2) and I have entered the passphrase correctly.
I am able to connect to the wireless network successfully from my Windows login(that is how I confirmed that the passphrase is accurate). The network shows that it is trying to connect, but the wireless authentication dialog(asking for the passphrase) keeps popping up. Incidentally, the same thing happened when I tried openSuSe and Fedora on a spare laptop. The windows systems can connect, but not the Linux systems.
I have an open WEP wireless internet connection with a security key. KNetworkManager can never obtain an IP address from my wireless router, but I know that the router works because Windows can connect correctly and Ubuntu's NetworkManager can connection correctly. Does anyone know what is happening? KNetworkManager just asks for my security again and again and again after it fails to connect.

I have installed Ndiswrapper (ndiswrapper-utils_1.8-0ubuntu2_i386.deb) and the GUI for ndiswrapper. The ndiwrapper GUI reports that the hardware was not found. Yet I am able to connect to the wlan using Windows.

I installed Wubi Ubuntu to try it out, and it all worked perfectly accept no wireless networks, not even nextdoors were listed.
It's enabled but it says it's disconnected. I have no idea what to do.
Is it recognizing my adapter?
I am unable to connect to any network, wired or wireless. Network-manager and wicd are both gone, as in no longer installed. Please don't tell me to apt-get anything. I have no network connection. I have tried downloading packages for nm onto a usb stick only to find myself in dependency hell which ended with the impassible error "Requires installation of untrusted packages".
