My machine can connect to wireless router and renew IP address. Also it can connect to a server via vpn/ssh, but I just cannot surf the web. I tried both Firefox and Chrome but neither worked.I am using my Windows machine now. This machine uses the same router.I'm using SUSE 11.2 and everything was fine yesterday evening. It seems both browser just suddenly stopped working.How can I DEBUG it?
View 4 RepliesIn fc10 & fc11 everything worked well with vpnc.
With fc12 vpnc starts allows me to connect to my work site then everything works fine til I try and start a remote desktop connections to a windows client use tsclient. All I get is a blackscreen and my laptop is hung.
At work without the vpnc it works fine if I start the vpnc from nm it performs the exact same way and I get the blackscreen.
I have disable selinux.I also disabled the firewall
there was another gentlemen on here with the same issue.
The only way out is a hard reboot and there are no messages in the logs that say there were any problems.
I've been trying to connect to my office Cisco VPN several time using the network-manager-vpnc GUI in Ubuntu Karmic with no success. I read a couple of articles and i tried using the direct command line way:

which worked perfecly.
So i went back to the Network Manager GUI way and i used the same credentials. Same fictional data I got a libnotify message telling me it couldn't connect.Anyone know how i could troubleshoot this issue? Would be great to have it integrated in gnome instead of running a background command which is not tracked by nwm.
I am trying to connect to a vpn through vpnc.
It hangs at the end and I can see in /var/log/messages "modem-manager: (net/tun0) could not get port's parent device" and then eventually "withdrawing workstation service for tun0".
My settings are correct and other people seem to be able to connect.
I am not using KNetworkManager because of an issue on my machine regarding rfkill.
I WAS using opensuse 11.1 with gnome networkmanager and vpnc. I am NOW using opensuse 11.2 with gnome networkmanager and vpnc.When vpn concentrators are configured, they are configured with 'split horizons' (or not). If not, a default route is required from the client to pass ALL client traffic through the vpn connection. (when the connection is established, the vpn client replaces the default route on the client machine to point to the host site) If 'split horizons' is enabled, only the traffic bound for the host site is passed through the vpn connection.
What I have noticed, is since I installed 11.2, the vpn client is NOT enabling split horizon on connections that call for it. In stead, it is putting in a default gateway every time. This is a big problem, because for those sites that are configured for split horizon, doing this means that no Internet traffic will pass unless you manually adjust the route table.
But I don't think my peer is dead.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a connection an its slow in both ff and chrome...however i can ping sites and get the same response time as my xp machine which runs fast. usually around the 40ms mark with no lost packets.
Also when i do installs eg. of chrome etc, i was getting up to 500kB/s download. I just cant seem to replicate this browsing, its loading up at a dial up pace. The last time I had an issue like this was setting up my mums work laptop on our home network where the work had specific proxy settings, so we turn the off and it works fine.

I have installed the latest released version of openSUSE, 10.3 or so, and I am having an issue getting the internet to work. The system tells me that I am connected to my wireless network, but firefox does not browse, indicating that it cannot find the network. I'm totally stumped because if my wireless network is connected, why can't I browse?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem and I havent got a clue what the cause is. Since last week, I have noticed that my TWO computers (running opensuse 11.1) have problems dealing with some websites:
1) My bank virtual office: [URL]...No matter which user/pass i put, i get a "a problem has ocurred" screen. It happens under firefox and opera. Konqueror in KDE3/4 does not even show the login box!? Try 12345678 for user and 1234 for password if you want.
2) Rumbo travel: I can search flights but if I click to start the booking process it says "YOUR BROWSER has detected an error" and goes back to front page. Same thing happens with firefox and opera, NOT with Konqueror. Both messages are generated by the remote servers (not by my browsers).
Some facts to take into account:
1) It has been happening for about one week or two
2) This problems happen exactly the same way on two computers running opensuse 11.1. The only big difference among them is the kernel (2.6.33 and 2.6.27 for the other)
3) Problems affect Opera and Firefox. Konqueror acts weird on the Bank site.
4) Problems DO NOT exist in other computers running windows or linux. Its not a problem on the websites. And they used to work well.
5) Problems persist in my computers, when connecting through different networks (university, home...), by wifi or ethernet. Other boxes do not suffer them in the same environments.
6) Yes, i have cleaned up cookies, browsers cach etc...
7) I have downgraded firefox and opera, and problems persist still.
8) I have turned off SuSEfirewall and with no luck.
9) There are no relevant messages in any logs or browser console (just some warnings about "rejected declarations" etc. but no difference of what i have seen on other boxes that actually work)
The only thing i can think that is common layer on both sites is SSL encrypted connection and javascript, and im not sure Opera and Firefox share any of that, and the problem is still there!.
I've just installed Slackware 13.1 in two different laptops for first time. I have some strange internet browsing behaviour in one of the laptops. I've installed 2 internet browsers(firefox,opera) using the directions from Slackbuilds.org and there is also konqueror pre-installed. Moreover I installed Wicd network manager.
I can browse some pages e.g. ..... with firefox very slowly but NEVER facebook. I can browse almost any page, even facebook, with OPERA but very very slowly. The same goes with konqueror... Wicd shows that i am always connected with my WPA wireless network

On my computer, I'm using 11.3, KDE 4.4.4 and Firefox 3.6.8. Firefox is so s...l...o...w..... It's slow loading and it's slow browsing. Konqueror takes 1, maybe 2 seconds to load, and another second to load the home page. Firefox takes a good 30 seconds to load. The only message I get when loading from a terminal is about not using a shared database. I don't hear the disk churning like it would with a fragmented disk.
I can't believe everyone is having this response, the hue and cry would be enormous! Anything to try? Should I try loading another browser? I tried Opera on 11.2 and didn't really like it, had problems with a lot of content. What about Sea Monkey (Gad, I HATE words with monkey in them!) Konqueror won't show a lot of videos and I have problems using the back and forward buttons. I'll wait for fixes but in the meantime.
I'm hoping someone might be able to suggest what went wrong with my networking, so I can continue using OpenSUSE! I've been running version 11.3 with KDE (64 bit) for a few months now (dual booting with Ubuntu); everything had been working fine until about a week ago - the only issue I had was that some internet-based things seemed a bit slower than in Ubuntu.
Anyway, after the last set of updates I installed (around Jan. 6th; there was a kernel update and a few other things. I'm not sure where to locate the history in YaST) I lost functionality of all internet-based programs, with the exception of Firefox. (I'm using Firefox in openSUSE right now to access this forum, for example.) Although I can browse the web just fine, I can't use Thunderbird to check email, the weather and comics plasma applets don't work, and the system can no longer connect to the software repositories.
I didn't change any settings (to my knowledge), but somehow Internet access is being denied to most of my system!
Just this Konqueror issue bothers me really bad. So decide to share it here and see if anyone has a better solution.
Java support is really poor in konqueror.
For example,
1. on webex.com and just try to join a test meeting. It never opens the meeting window however there is no error or any kind prompt.
2. facebook.com, if you try to upload a picture, you have to choose simple uploading tool in konqueror in order to do the job.
Why java can not be made work properly like in firefox and chrome? Is there any critical hurdle that I did not know?
My solution: use konqueror for normal browsing and switch to firefox or chrome for java sites. This bothers, right?
I recently installed 11.2 and Firefox takes several seconds to connect to each site.I pinged my machine, the gateway, the DNS servers (by IP address), and other various sites (by domain name), all without delay. But when I browse using Firefox, there's a 3-second delay while "looking up", and finally it connects. Any ideas what's causing this? I'm using Gnome and don't have another browser installed to test.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy samba seems to be mis-configured somehow. I had been using Ubuntu 10.04 and my samba browsing of my samba shares on my HTPC (running XBMCLive) had all been working fine. Then I upgraded to openSuSE 11.2 64bit. Great OS by the way!Ok so I chekced my other PC's running Ubuntu and going to the network folder I see my XBMCLive machine. Double click him and now I see my shares on that PC. So now I know its specific to my SuSE install.
Now on SuSE if I use Dolphin file manager and go to Network -> Samba Shares -> workgroup I dont see anything. And then down the bottom of the window I will see timeout error on workgroup. "workgroup" is the correct workgroup. All the services are running winbind, smbd, nmbd, xinit, swat. Firewall disabled.However when I try the above and I get the timeout error I then go to the address bar in Dolphin where it has smb as the drop down item and in the text field type in the XBMCLive PC ip address and hit enter. Then immediately I can see my shares!!! So it is working but I cant see my shares under Network->Samba Shares->workgroup.I notice in my samba error logs for log.smbd I keep seeing this;smbd_open_once_socket: open_socket_in: Address already in use
I've recently installed openSUSE 11.4 (64 bit) on my system and am experiencing severe performance issues with websites using https (any site using https). Page loads over https take anywhere between 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It's the same issue posted here Secure sites load slow or not at all -- there was no confirmed solution.
- My router/hardware configuration has not changed in a long time and I've run Ubuntu, Arch Linux, and Windows XP on the same machine within the last year and have not had any issues.
- I also have a laptop running Arch Linux (kernel 2.6.38) and this problem does not occur using Firefox 4 or Chrome. To add to the madness this problem occurs while running Firefox 4 inside a Windows 7 guest via virtual box, but NOT while running IE 8 inside the same guest.
- This issue occurs using Firefox 4, Chromium, Opera, Konqueror, and Arora.
- I've disabled ipv6 in Firefox via about:config.
- I've disabled ipv6 in yast and have attempted to use both the "ifup" and "networkmanager" options.
- I am not using a proxy server.
- I've attempted the fix posted in the Ubuntu forums for a similar problem [ubuntu] [SOLVED] Banking Site is very slow.
I currently have a LAMP server running with multiple virtual hosts configured. I have one virtual host with a sub directory that contains pdf news letters.do not want the directory browsable and tried putting an index.php file that re-directshe user to the root directory but when I go to the [web address]/[directory name] in any browser I see the contents of the folder listed.
Currently the news letter list is drawn from a database table and displayed as links on a page in the root directory. The links point to the file name in the sub directory. How do I block users from going to that sub directory and seeinge contents of that directory listed? Would I add another <directory> statement in the vhosts.conf file? If so how would I structure that directive?
I'm running 11.2 on a Dell Latitude D630. Everything has been great other than issues with Suspend and hibernate not working correctly. However after about a month of use browsing the web has really slowed down bad. It doesn't seem to matter if it's in Firefox or Chrome either. I am using a wireless connection that is getting the signal at 85-95%. Even though I still tried using a direct cat-5 connection to the router and it was still slow as well. I have the fastest broadband connection my cable offers and my windows boxes on the same network are still flying.

I've got the Apache2 server up and running through yast, and everything works fine as long as I try to point it to the /www/htdocs folder. However, I want to point it at another folder, which is on another partition. This partition is formatted as NTFS, if that matters at all (here's some background on some permissions issues I had with the NTFS partitions recently).
When I change the "Directory" setting in the Yast http server configuration utility to the directory on the NTFS partition I wish to use, attempting to access the server results in the following error:

Well I assumed I would have to reinstall vpnc for my cisco vpn client but I can not figure out how to download it. When I do a search it seems the only vpn option is pptp. I really need it working as I am on call with my job.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've seen a problem staying connected to a Cisco VPN, this goes back a number of years.I was running 8.10 and it was fine.After I moved to 9.10, the problem started happening.My VPN connection to work would drop after 8 hours.I looked around for a while and ended up compiling the cisco provided client which works fine (but is a pain).I've been running 9.10 on my work laptop, and it experiences the same problem using vpnc, but I've been dealing with it because it's easier than using the Cisco client.
I installed 10.04 on my work desktop, my home desktop, and a personal laptop that was previously running 8.10, and all experience the same problem with vpnc.I even go so far as to keep one terminal open with a constant ping all day and it still drops after about 8 hours. A couple of others at work experience the same problem using vpnc. This is not a problem using the Cisco provided client, or running it on windows or os/x.Has anybody else seen this, or have any ideas on what I can start looking for to get this addressed?

I just upgraded Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Now when I use vpnc to connect from the command line using vpnc-connect, I'm not only prompted for my password as usual, but now also being prompted for a "Passcode". Here's what the login attempt looks like:

I use VPNC to connect to a Cisco VPN. I am able to connect, but some issues exist when I use SSH. For example, I login through SSH to a computer in the VPN and I execute ls => it works. If I execute ls -la => connection stalls. I think it stalls every time it is supposed to return more content (top, ls /etc).
If I do scp from my end to server => works. If I do scp from server to my end => connection stalls.
I'm trying to setup a VPN using VPNC. All is well and I can create the VPN.
The problem is that CNTLM does not want to connect in the VPN Further more I am not sure what to look for? The logs are empty and CNTLM only reports 502 Parent proxy unreacheable.
How can I trace what the problem is?

I have added few printers over there and everything is working fine. I can also able to add - delete - modify any printers from "yast2 printer" command. I can also able to browse cups web interface via http://cups:631, but when I am going to manage the printers (start - stop - delete etc), none of the buttons are working in firefox5 not even in IE also. Older version of firefox is giving error as "This address uses a network port which is normally used for purposes other than Web browsing. Firefox has canceled the request for your protection." All other buttons are working properly.
