Nov 1, 2010I'm highly suspicious that someone installed a backdoor on my system. Is there a program or way to determine this?

OpenSUSE Network :: Apache And Tomcat Services - HTTPD Door
Jun 16, 2010I have both apache and tomcat services running, both in their standard doors (tomcat 8080, httpd 80). I need to setup tomcat to run on door 80 instead of httpd. I changed httpd door with success to 8180. Now I want to change tomcat6 door to 80, and I did that by editing server.xml config file of tomcat. After restarting tomcat, the system tells me it's ok, but I can see that it's not running on 80, nor at any other door. A simple nmap search confirm that. What should I do to have tomcat running in door 80?

Apr 6, 2010I just upgraded from Suse 10.x to 11.2. Unfortunately, I didn't use 10.2 much and I('m a bit overwhelmed by the upgrade. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
After my upgrade, I lost Internet access. I don't really know my way around too well, but I did try to ping my router, but had no success. (Although I can ping 127.0.0.1).
I'm guessing that this means network access is not configured, although it looks OK to me.

Mar 22, 2010I have a problem with Opennebula that I have been trying t o solve for weeks, I have tried many options and have got nowhere. I have two HP ML115 servers configured to act as opennebula cluster nodes named opennebula01 and opennebula02. I have also installed the Front-end opennebula management deamon on node opennebula01. To use opennebula I have created a paswordless oneadmin user which seems to be ok because I can ssh to localhost and both nodes without a password. Using the onehost command I have created two hosts both tehse hosts are running correctly.

Periodically the opennebula monitoring system will fail, the problem I am having is that the logs keep showing the message:
"sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified"

I have used the visudo command to change the sudoers Defaults visiblepw option but I just get a "root's password:root's password:sudo: pam_authenticate: Conversation error" error.

'Determining IP information for eth0... failed; no link present.'
I'm curious to know how, after booting up, I could set the IP information for a wireless device, wlan0, manually. Another way of putting this questions is: if CentOS is able to determine IP information for a network device on bootup, what settings is it configuring exactly?

Sep 13, 2010i just installed open suse 11.3 after using linux mint 7(based on ubuntu 9.04).i am currently using two internet connections at home, the first is a vodafone mobile modem, which is workind excellent, and the other is a LAN network, that on windows uses a *.exe program to run. i managed to make all the IP, NETMASK, DNS settings and the internet connected, but without the .exe program it just disconnects after 10 minutes.this is the same thing that happens with the connections on windows if i start the computer and not run the "net.exe" program, but if that program is running the internet connections works just fine. i tried using wine to run net.exe, but it just gives an error message.

Aug 11, 2010I have opensuse 11.1 Gnome on Lenovo S10e. I'm wanting to establish a mobile internet connection. I have tried so far...*UMTSMON but when I click on it nothing happens. I have reinstalled the program several times to no avail. *WINE to run the Optus program, however the program doesn't find the HUAWEI USB stick & *Via a Bluetooth connection (use mobile phone as a modem) didn't work either Anyhow, I have tried these and some other ways to get mobile to no avail.
Also, have gone to network connections-mobile broadband-add-configure it- but what am I forgetting to do? Need a path I can take to get mobile internet working. (I even have a direct SIM card slot in this laptop

Sep 1, 2011i have noticed that if vista is not the active partition, hybernate does not work. it just goes black and then back to the user icon screen to log back in. another "slight" problem was that i was not able to apply a service pack. after restoring vistas dominance i was able to install the pack. is there any other work arounds for hybernate? even though you might not be interested in cleaning up after microsoft.

Jan 18, 2011After a disastrous foray into LDAP I restored NIS on a very simple network run by a very simple operator. Everything now works except for YaST on the NIS master. I can't manage NIS users in YaST any more. The option 'show NIS users' is now absent from the 'filter' button up in YaST "User and Group Management" So, after following the YaST route to LDAP there seems no way back...
These are OpenSUSE 11.3 boxes and the slave NIS server can't [obviously enough] delete expired NIS users on the master, although it sees them fine. Disabling or changing NIS server or client on the Master simply restores the 'wrong' settings - nothing is erased or cleaned. How do I clean up NIS controls so YaST sees it properly? or What do I need to do to restore NIS group & user control to YaST?

The thing that bugs me the most is the fact that each program has its menu (ie File, Edit etc) in the top panel. Apr 14, 2010Few days ago formatted away winxp at office and installed OpenSUSE 11.2. In winxp USB speed was fine (actually full speed of my SDHC card using card-reader), but in SUSE it's about 1.13 MB/s.
The strange thing is - I have the same version of SUSE at home, on both desktop and laptop, with the only difference in kernel - at home both are default kernel, and desktop kernel at office.
Should I try default kernel and is there any way to determine the source of the problem?

May 20, 2010I've read and re-read NVIDIA the hard way but before I do this I was hoping to get a few items cleared up for the text.
First: I have 11.2 installed and the latest reference is to 11.1. Can I assume comments about 11.1 pertain to 11.2?
Second: There's a line about using Sax2 that states: "With 10.0 you won't need to specify -m 0=nvidia any more, sax automatically detects and uses it if you activate 3D acceleration."
I had to use the sax2 -r -m 0=nv to get my display to use the nv driver. Won't I need to do the same for 11.2?
And how do I determine if 3D accel is activated? Is that a selection in a dialog that occurs during the sh NVIDIA-yada-yada.run -q execution or what?

Feb 23, 2010I have an HP Laserjet 3.I can use it in normal Windows mode, or as a Postscript printer.it is an older printer, but it is still listed in the driver database. The cups setup tool cannot autodetect this printer. Also, if I select the actual driver for this printer, the cups tool still reports that no printer has been selected. I cannot add that driver for some reason. So, now I have to become an expert in cups configuration. Where is the cups HOWTO? Not in the SuSE howto section. Online? A little support there, but not SuSE specific. Does this local printer need to be a "network" printer? If so, how to I determine what internet address to use?
